Sorry to disagree with many here - but I found this to be a poor version. Disjointed and random with none of the soul and emotion of Cohen's original or the most famous cover by Buckley. Sounded more like a Sunday outing in the park with an amateur singer and the local brass band.
clare has an amazing voice. i have to admit its not my favourite version ever (that was jeff''s), but its a damn good one. love you clare, you sexy talented girl.
this is definately the most unique version i have heard of this song. Allison Crowe's version of this song is seriously unbelievable. Even better than K.D. Lange's.
Although Jeff Buckley covered this wonderfully, John Cale is the originator of the "acoustic" version who covered Cohen's (more upbeat version) first. He also used previously unreleased lyrics that Cohen personally sent him that were never used in the original. Buckley covered this song.
I may have taken on board your critique until I read this statement "My 13yr old son does a version that even gives Jeff Buckley's version a run for it 's money".
JB's cover is widely recognised as being in the top 2, or best, covers to date. We've never heard your son, and we all understand the loving encouraging parent mindset. But that right there, no, just no. Seriously man.
There are elements of this at about 3 minutes which remind me of the recorded version of Throwing Muses' Honeychain - random huh?

she totally screwed up "the minor fall" part, she did a "major fall".... but over all not to bad. i hope she does it again better some time.

This is a really nice cover, The original is one of my Favourite songs and it has been ruined by many.

Stunning. You can sense the emotion in her voice, yet she seems so relaxed, like she really enjoys what she's doing.

It's a song that has been done badly so many times but this is a great version.

am i the only one that prefers the covers of this song (claire, jeff) better than the original by leonard cohen?

@ternalator No, basically everyone does, except the Leonard Cohen fanatics.

Her lyrical recitation is so perfectly unique.
So beautiful.

Very original, think it goes a bit astray at the end. I am surprised no-one has mentioned Kd Lang's version, it is also beautiful.

Yes, i do have ears.
Thankfully, my ears work well and i'm not tone deaf like anyone who enjoys this appauling version of a beautiful song.

I'm sorry, I have to agree, this is terrible. the vocals are terrible.

Are you guys serious ???
That has to be the worst version (Damien Leith's version comes a close 2nd) of that song i have ever heard !!!
My 13yr old son does a version that even gives Jeff Buckley's version a run for it 's money.
I don't get all the fuss over Clare Bowditch and that version of Hallelujah only confirms my opinion of her.
YUCK !

Wonderful cover interpretation. Mr Leonard Cohen's song has been covered by so many singers. I LOVE them all!

I like her voice and I think this song would be much better if she sang it the way it was originally made.
