its disturbing to see the government fail its people but unfortunately it is no suprise from behind the iron curtain, i dont understand why it takes so much loss of life to get people to open their eyes
It's true, the Sarcophagus is very weak and could possibly collapse, but the consequences would be much worse than everyone first thinks. 21 years worth of highly radioactive particles being released into the atmosphere once again,
A news report in German TV said, that a while ago, the shell that was built around the destroyed reactor for guarding purpose was about to collaps and that a weaker version of the same incident would have occured if it did. Te report said that its still dangered to colaps and that the people working there are building a new shell for it. Is that true?
we CAN prevent it from happening again, too many lives have been ruined or lost to let this tradegy happen again, all of this happened because of the greediness of the soviet union not taking there safety test's before the reactor was operational because they wanted there energy faster:translation:lives lost/ruined over COMPLETE STUPIDTY AND IGNORANCE!!!!!!
I'm from Hungary and a few years ago, we had some kind of serious problem with our only powerplant too, which is very close to my home. We still don't know a darn thing about what happened. Fucking governments, always lieing to the people about everything.
People will be able to live there only in 300000 years when finally town will be cleared of radiation. who knows what will be in that point of time....
is sad to see than these rely hapend there, is not a videogame is not a film, is sad to see more and mor of those big radiation machines in this world , owers world.
Tragedy...But the bigger tragedy is that nobody told to those people what happened. Did you see protective clothes or sometheing else which can minimize the radiation? No one from USSR wanted help from other countries...
Yes, exploded...And here-in Bulgaria no one told us that is better to stay at home for couple of days. I heard by BBC(it was not legal radio in 1986). This is the REAL tregedy-no information for nobody
In Hungary they lied about it (of course, they alway lied). They didn't told man about the nuclear clouds, about the poisonos rain. Unfortunately the wind blown the radiation west and east, to East-Europe. And in Ukraine there are more and more are diagnosed with cancer.
i don't think that anyone will ever be able to live in pripyat, and chernobyl. what tehyhad in that reactor when it blew up had very long half-lifes. like a certian part of uranium found in every reactor has a half-life of 700 million years. i don't think anyone is going to see taht town without radation suits.
@chernobyl59 Living in Pripyat is forbid by the law of Ukraine, but in Chernobyl (town, not in NPP) has a gas station, bar, restaurant and Info. You have to be 18 years old to enter. If my english is bad, it´s maybe that I am from Finland.
The new safe confinement should be built soon and then they will dismantle the old shelter within the new cover , and then start to clean up the remains of the reactor which will take years.
The sad thing is that the USSR were aware that the reactor at chernobyl was unsafe but they took no notice of the warnings and rushed the building of the 4th reactor and look what happened it exploded with countless innocent lives lost as a result. Rest in peace to all those who died.
dude if i was that guy i would euvalcated the town without thinking twice. And there is still a lot of people alive from that radation they were exposed too. they are just slowly dieing of radation posining. sad very sad.
Did you see all these people the day after the explosion? Why nobody told them about danger? And how many of them are still alive. The kids...I am not talking for brave people who tried to stop the radiation. R.I.P to all
You should Wikipedia this, They're updating us on the story. Something about.. Covering the tomb of the reactor 4 with a more reliable thing in early 08.
I remember 1986-in my country Bulgaria no one told us about radiation and about Chernobil. My mother heard for this from BBC radio(in those years was illegal to listen it)Ana what-nobody talked for this neither in 1986 nor now. In those days I stayed only at home but other people? When we will know the whole the truth about Chernobil????
Sad thing was they told them when they were evacuating that the would only have to leave for a few short days, they had no idea they would never return...
I think that this was the one incident that started the fall of the USSR, not the cold war mumbojumbo. It exposed how precarious conditions in the soviet block were. they took so long to sound the alarm, to evacuate. 4 years after the explosion they still operated the remaining reactors... we need our "clean energy" right.

People do go there sometimes. The radiation dissipated, things like car shells still give off a lot, but if you're in the middle of the road on a motorbike as one person who made a photo diary did was, you're fine. Best not to breathe the dust in though.

Thank you for such a video. It should be aired on national t.v. to remind us never to become complacent. The radioactivity from this circled the globe and has affected everyone, everything. Now, we have depleted uranium to add to this whole f'ing mess.

Thank you for such a video. It should be aired on national t.v. to remind us never to become complacent. The radioactivity from this circled the globe and has affected everyone, everything. Now, we have depleted uranium to add to this whole f'ing mess.
