  • nice movie man ;)

  • i'm not a gangstar !!

  • @inventfmc how do you give that popping effect? when you pop you tense your arm muscles and your legs but something else in your popping gives that awesome effect. maybe its the shoulders? if yes, how do i pop em? just lift em ?

    thanks !

  • @subz3ro2 don't lift them

  • When I started out popping, I watched all your tutorials, now I'm 6 years further and here I am again lol :D good stuff man, you've taught me alot!

  • the old man is proving difficult... more practice... good vids.

  • Muiito Bom ,ERA tudu q eu queria = )

  • I love how you actually said there are lines in popping! makes the dance have sense. really nice style

  • you should make an index like . . . hitting at what part of the video, strobbing at the end . . something like that, but everything else was perfect!

  • Where's the first video?

  • omg that's a lot of work for get good with it. Anyway really big thanks, your tips are really usefull!

  • ANGLES. Why have I never been taught this? lmao thanks :D

  • Great vids, I am learning a lot form you.

  • Best tutorial....... I felt the love for teaching :) thnx man. Im new at this. I was browsing and finaly found a well detailed--descriptive moves! ty so much :D going on first month !

  • when i pop my arms i tend to contract my pectorals also by habit, is that wrong? do the tricept contractions have to be isolated?

  • nice very thourough and clear on what to do

  • Lmao what was with the random arguing in the comments?

    Oh well...

Nice video....little shorter next time though

    >.>;;

  • What are some good popping songs

  • thank u! 1st time seeing video tutorial where are both dimestopping and strobing! it' a bit hard to find all those basic moves

  • Thank you very much... It will help me a lot!

  • wow!

  • thanks a lot!

  • Thank you so much! Your instructions were very clear to me! Your also an excellent dancer. But could you send me a playlist of songs I can dance to.. It would be very helpful. Thanks.

  • wow ur really clean with ur isolations:))

  • holy shit!!

jay dilla still lives and teach how to pop

    LOL

  • popping your legs backwards is for extra mobility. when you do a forward leg hit, it's hard to turn and move around with your legs. (hitting your legs backwards should have no effects on your knees, as long as you don't completely lock them. always keep them slightly bent)

  • I was taught to pop my leg backwards, however it feels so much sharper when i hit my leg forward, like a bop. Why do they advocate you hitting your leg backwards then?

  • No! don't pop your legs like that, In the long term, you'll suffer a bad knee. It's better to pop it forward.

  • u suck

  • Comment removed

  • no u dont undestand U SUCK!!!!!!

  • why do i suck ?

    can you explain ?

    can you ?

    ?

  • Cuz u Suck

  • when do i suck, cuz i don't see.are you a better dancer or teatcher ?

  • Yeah i can dance better then you Dumb ass

  • i don't even dance hahaha :)) what a looser...

  • I dont dance either hahaha And u dont dance because ur too fat its ok

  • :)) youre starting to get funny. let's just meet and argue like dumbs untill we kill each other:)))

  • Comment removed

  • how do you hit your entire body?

  • Basically pop every part of your body at once. My advice is, get used to popping individual parts of your body first. Cuz when you get used to that. Popping your whole body would be so easy.

  • this vid actually helped me a lot one I was able to watch the whole thing completely through. thanks a lot invent, I hope to be lucky enough to meet you sometime in the future.

  • feet movement is critical. . we can see your feet. . :P

  • it may look long but its worth the watch i think i might watch it more then once theres just so much info

  • Could you send me the names of a few poppin music I could practice to? I would really appreciate that

  • dis is a sikk vid it rilli helps!! lyk u sed many ppl dnt teach u all da stuff we need to no but u did so fnx

  • Great vid but what would you say to someone lacking the confidence to start dancing??

its a problem for me cause i really want to get into it.

    :p

  • everyone starts somewhere. every one is imbarassed to start. the sooner u start the better u will be sooner.u leave it to long u will regret not starting ages ago when u wanted to.

  • @cazneau So true. I wished I started doing the things I wanted to do when I was younger, but I thought I would never be good at it. Now I'm making up for wasted time lol!

  • good question!

  • Long video, but we'll worth the watch.

Thanks a lot for all the tips and really helping me out a lot.

  • damn ur awsome

    good video :)

  • awesome stuff man

    mad props

  • how come you stopped makin tutorials man!?

  • damn this was long...but very very good and helpful

  • i've been trying to do strobbing for the longest and i have a habit of juss flexing wen i stop and itz very annoying because it lookz dumb wen i try to put it in with mi dancing

  • Man how do you tick? Hitting that fast is crazy.

  • In you next video can you add how the move when you did a spend starting your hand guiding your head then it look like your upper body and legs followed?..but I dont know what your feet did and how you made it so crisp..

  • Body Wave with Pop:

    1) Nod the head (quick look up then down) then

    2) Chest pop (use back and stomach muscles to quickly push out chest and then back in - taking a quick breath in and out helps push the chest out further), then

    3) Stomach pushes the hips forward while knees bend and rotate outwards.

  • thanks nice vid!

  • where can I find a good tut for the old man dance he did?

  • Props to INVENT

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial. Love how its so detailed any1 could learn from you! awesome 5 stars keep it up man!

  • I would really like to see more angles it is hard to hit arms and legs if you do not have the right angles but i really appreciate such an in depth tutorial thank you sooooooooooooo much A++++++

  • This is GREAT!!! Thank you so much for doing this! Keep 'em coming!!!

  • BTW, Your Popping is amazing!

  • This tutorial is VERY VERY GOOD.. thank you so much for uploading this; its helped me alot...

CHECK MY POPPING VIDEO OUT AND LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK...

i have a long way to go..

    Peace

  • I grew up in fresno , California, and this is straight up! just hit hard ! Fresno is about battling and remembering in about 1984 saw two cholo girls battling and they hit hard and were boogleooing and getting down, all only a few inches from each others face real battling but also this is great when good funk is playing at a party to just have fun and get down ! peace

  • the longest video on youtube!!!!

haha good video bro keep it up

  • what is the music?

  • 5/5 man, one of the few good tutorials. I am really working on angles. My hits look good until i try to move beyond a few angles =( Plus when I try footwork I just look stupid

  • How is this video over 10 mins???

  • lololololol! o_O!

  • HEY SOMEONE PLEASE ANSWER THIS QUESTION!!!!!

what kind of music can you get away with popping too?

I mostly just see it to rick james time period music. is it acceptable to do it to todays hip hop. (people wave all the time, but what about the classic techniques like the fresno, boogaloo, and the old man like he's saying)

  • actually nevermind figured it out lol XD

  • One word, funk.

Poppin is one of the funkstyles of dance so funk is the original music people were poppin to.

Good artists are Slick Dogg, Zapp & Roger, Herbie Hancock, Art of Noise, etc.

  • yeah thanks I like slick dogg and art of noise! I haven't heard of the other two though. I'll check them out! ThX

  • Zapp and Roger have GREAT popping songs!!! (I just got a couple of their albums last year) I've never heard AON, though-I'll check them out too!

  • yeah check out metro area's "caught up" and "miura" (origional mix). Then check out art of noises "beatbox" and "moments in love". Then Funkmaster ozone's "boogaloo anthem", "pure funk", "westcoast pioneers", "hawkeye" (love this one). Finally check out Justice's "Genesis". These are some of my favorites.

  • Hawkeye is the jam

  • really opend eyes with this vid

  • AWESOME teacher

  • Next time can you do one about like footwork? Thats the thing that gets me. I feel so limited to a few things when it comes to footwork.

  • i feel u. it gets me all the time.

  • i like how he makes his own beat at 9:05

  • U don't do the pop with arms:O

  • airposing looks lame lol

  • wow half n hr . O_O

  • omg, the straight angles really give me more hitting angles. it was really helpful. thank you for sharing your knowledge and time.

  • I m still confused on the old man when you walk over

  • great tutorial, i did alot of jus random practices after watchin a few vids but this really breaks down and shows the fundamentals, now a whole new level of practicing :D

  • 29.17? I tot the max limit is 10 min?? ANY NICE TUTORIAL!

  • dude u rule all hail

  • Thank you, You are an awesome teacher!

  • any1 know the 50 cent song....the 2nd one???

  • it's 50 - outa control

  • Real Good Tutorial man ..respect

  • you point our the point thx man!it's preetty useful

  • what's that first song?

  • to do the frezno u pop ur arms and legs at the same time to match the beat,to do that flex your arm really fast as strong as u can then release same thing with your legs.. do that really fast and your doing a hit or pop what ever its called... but it usually takes years of practice to make your pops look really good

  • It doesn't take years. Months.

  • To make ALL your hits ALWAYS look good?

    Years.

  • i agree

  • yea. after a year of hitting, i got a little better, but still a long ass way to go. hitting takes a few secs to learn, but years to be good at it.

  • To make it simple for everyone, the Frisno is like top rox but for poping... like when your hearin the beat and know what to do a lot of good dancers start out with the frisno

  • hey man im a beginner how long do you think it will take to achieve a decent level of popping so that i can put together this routine?

ill practise for as long as it takes! thanks

  • years.

  • man this is long1!!1!1 but good tutorial

  • wow this is really long.

    but really nice tutorials..

  • With dimestopping, how do I get the same control that you have? Usually I try to tense the shoudler area of the arm that I'm using (what would I do for legs? My thighs?)but it's still not quite as precise.

  • Would working out your arms make for a harder hit? or is the strength of the hit solely determined by the control of your muscles rather than the strength? Also, what are some of your favorite songs to pop to?

btw really good tutorial, watched the whole thing and it helped alot

  • I know your not asking me but the power of hits actually comes from the speed of your muscles more than how much muscle you have.

  • ^^ exactly

  • maybe you're right ;p i've tried to be exact. anyway good tut

  • dude , don't call the first combination the fresno routine. fresno as you said is only with straight hand and the same leg

  • actually this is the Fresno Routine as created and taught by Boogaloo Sam.

  • hey man can I ask you something? please?

sorry but if we got a problem with the hit?

cause I am not able to feel my legs when I want to pop them? should I do quadriseps exercices? thanks for the feedback:d:d:d

  • well if you can't feel your legs you might be paralyzed. try standing up and walking for a change, or even go outside.

  • He says he can't do it when he wants to pop them, so it'd be easier to quit popping..

  • thanks for a great tutorial, it was really helpful! i just have a few questions..

soo, i dont really get the whole dimestopping/strobing part. Am i supposed to have the parts that im strobing with tensed all the time or am i not tensing my muscles at all, not even when im stopping?

    thanks

when do u think u will make another tutorial btw?:)

  • Most people try to stay relaxed, some people stay tensed...

    do what suits you

  • dude...I practiced hittin till my muscles screamed but when still when I dance I don't feel them contracting or relaxing...am I hittin without knowing it or just strobing:|?

  • yoo awesome vids im a new popper and ive just been watchin your 2 tutorials over and over and practicin my hittin. i got two questions tho: 1. when i try to hit faster, it feels more like im shakin than hittin cuz my wrist keeps vibratin up nd down. is that normal? and 2)yea im not gettin the leg hittin, it barely moves nd whenever i try to combine it with arm and chest hits it doesnt move at all. any suggestions lol?

  • You need to train ur muscles to RELAX entirely, to prevent the shaking.

2, if ur new to popping, dont worry about the leg hits...

  • not tryin to knock ya cause its a hella good tutorial....but IF u ever decide to make another one, could u go back a lil more so we can see ur feet? lolol im proly jus trippin tho but im havin a prob figurin out where to put my feet @. hella dope tut tho....longest one on youtube lol

  • Ya i def. wanted to do that... I made it in my room and my cam didnt have the widest of angles. thnx for the suggestion

  • first beat?????????????????????

  • Guy - Teddy's Jam III

  • Whats the name of the BEAT!??!?!, plz sum1 reply.

  • which one??

  • how in da world do you get 30 minutes of videotime:p

  • he posted it before youtube had the 10 minute limit.

  • your old man is so funny hahaha

  • Longest thing

    Ive watched on youtube haha

  • lik the old man walkthrough

  • I enjoyed and appreciate this video a ton.

Thanks for all the helpful information. Definitely looking forward to learning more from you.

  • those leghits, do u use them for EVERY pop-like move? i mean for every hitting. sometimes its enough with arms + wings and maybe the head too

  • does this vid still work i cant get it!!!

  • wats the name of tht 50 cent song?

  • Outta Control (remix)- 50 Cent feat. Mobb Deep

  • u computer is fucked mate

  • when u angle to the sides in a downward position, do you only pop your legs? If you get my point..

  • the angles thing helped me alot

  • oh shit, my left knee is starting to ache a bit everytime i hit with the legs (without full stretch; means knee goes all the way back). Should i be worried? It's an annoying pain, not too painful.

omg i practiced the leghit invent taught us in this vid; to avoid this potential injury, and it seems that i failed...

  • You need to stretch before hand. x IF you sit at the PC all day, it could be tendonitis. pretty serious

  • also, don't hyperextend your knees. go from top to bottom when u hit ur legs not front to back.

  • nice video thx :))

  • thanx man for the break down, makes sense

  • best youtube tutorial on popping

  • you teach reall good. ive gained alot thanks!

  • hey dude realy apreciat ur tutorials u teach them the right way not just showin off like others.. well im an idol man !! kep it up and keep making tutorials i really wanna learn this shit xD

  • Thank you for this tutorial!

  • put it so we can rewind it bro...i need more practice

  • wow! best popping tutorial ever! :D

  • only thing iu hate about these vids is tht u cant rewind shit...dude u teach some good stuff but sometimes i dont catch on rite away and i cant go back unless i re watch the vid...but nice tutorial anyway

  • thank you soo much man i really learned alot from this video keep it up!!!

  • just dance, and your spinal brain will give you all answers. i don't know many things but my body and music tell me what i must do

  • how do u hit and work it into a wave ?

  • just got a simple question:

how do u remember all ur moves/techniques u have? , u don't want to forget something. It's like keeping books you've read in a library, u dont want to lose a book even though u have read it.

  • well I suppose when you're freestyling, the music dictates which move is appropriate and since you know it, it automatically comes to you?

  • answer that for me too please

  • don't remember! trust that you have. dance is to be felt man, not programmed

  • nice hat mr. thierry henry

  • im sorry, i'm new to this...

first off, thanks for showing the basics. laying the foundation by giving us the basic principles/concepts is a great way to teach. thanks for the advice

but yea, just like everyone, i still want to learn some individual techniques. i can't follow the old man at all. would it be possible to make a vid showing your hips, legs and feet together? i can't really get the coordination together.

    thanks invent

  • Thanks for the tutorial, but if you don't mind some constructive criticism for next time: 1) You should position the camera to capture your footwork or have someone recording who can angle it down. 2) Record somewhere with better lighting. 3) When explaining moves as you do them, instruct viewers to move the opposite arm or leg from the one you are moving, since you are facing them as a 'mirror image' (Mr. Wiggles does the same thing in his tutorials and it sometimes throws me off).

  • omg now iam talking rubbish if you understand my previous comments then plz do reply lol

but how do you strobe/tick the body? and how would you do this in different levels like say iam standing how would i strobe to go on the floor or bend if you no what iam saying

and what part of the body or muscles is being used for this soz for the spam

    holla bk

    young faith

    (())

  • forget what i said basicly iam asking

how would i change levels when poppin when say iam spining or on 1 leg a
