Thanks Jesse for producing these very informative video for beginners like myself. I like how you break down the fundamentals of what and why I should choose one type of telescope versus another. One thing I would like is you post these on your own channel so they can be presented in serial rather than hunt and search from the expervillage channel. This is not a criticism on expervillage in any way.
If you're starting out, forget Schmidt Cassegrains. Get a large Dobsonian or refractor. Just cos they look nice doesn't mean they give the best views. There only benefit is that they're compact. Remember: the more mirrors and lenses you have the less light you'll collect. And thats what it's about. Light gathering power.
Go get that 10 incher! Is cheaper and collects 75% more light than the 8" Cassegrain which is MORE expensive than a 10 inch reflector. So if you want more light gathering and less money to burn i definetly recommend a reflector.
Not to be immature....
BUT,
did he have some kind of boner?....
O.o

view planets well: Refractor
view stars well: Reflector
view both but at less clarity: Cassegrain
AstroPhotography: Cassegrain
Id pick a Cassegrain as my dream telescope or a small 76mm telescope for now that is only 60 bucks. cant beat that and what a way to start observing!

What do you think is better?
a 10" Reflector in a EQ mount or a 8" Schimidt Cassegrain?

Nooo get a Cassegrain... although you'll have less light gathering capability the QUALITY will be superb and razor sharp.
I'm looking to buy one too, just need to save up...

schimidt cass definately, but it would prob be more expensive. Basically you get what you pay for.
