  • I want to know how the life-support system actually works in the capsule. I do not think there is enough space (in volume) to carry air to breathe for so many hours while on the moon.

    Think about a diver and his compressed air tank, just multiple the hours of air by the volume of tanks needed and you will see my point.

  • @fteoOpty64 It uses liquid oxygen. Not sure about the LM, but on the CSM, it's the same oxygen used for propulsion and electrical power. A diver uses regular air, with a small percentage of oxygen, compressed mechanically. Big difference in concentration between that and pure, cryogenic liquid oxygen. Carbon dioxide is then just filtered out of the air. Drinking water also comes from the tanks of liquid oxygen/hydrogen, and is produced as a waste product by the fuel cells.
