how large is this oil reservoir? Do they even know for sure .. do we have the capability to know exactly? What if it reaches around the earth or something and is soo massive that the loss of pressure causes parts of the earth to cave in .. or that it sucks in massive amounts of water. Why don't you make a large compression fitting with a valve. What about ramming a plug in there using a pile driving rig suspended with cables from the surface using the rov to hold the plug in place while its hammered in. It sounds crude, but there are devices used in submarines to stop leaks that would plug the holes. .

The IXTOC I well blowout on June 3, 1979 continued to spill oil into the Gulf of Mexico at a rate of 10,000 - 30,000 barrels per day until it was finally capped on March 23, 1980. We all remember the effects of that one, don't we? Is this a big deal? Yes, but on a small scale. Quit letting the media whip your mind into a paranoid frenzy!
If you go online and look at flow rate calculators for fluid traveling through pipe you can get an estimate of how much oil is coming out of the pipe. If it is a 9" pipe with flow rate of 2 feet per second which based on the video looks very conservative you would see it equals 6.6 gallons per second, or about 400 gallons per minute or 24,000 gallons per hour or 576,000 gallons per day. Some of what is coming out is methane and I am no expert but that is a lot of oil.

How the hell is that 70,000 psi, no way. That is more like 100-300 psi tops. Bull crap excuse to drill more wells. This is a scam. They could plug that with tampons.
that is far more then 210k gallons in one day. there are 60 seconds in a minute and 60minutes in an hour so do 60x60=3600, 3600 seconds each hour now multiply that by 24 (24hours in a day) and you get 86000 seconds a day. Now divide 210,000/86400 and you get 2.43. So by BP's estimates there are only 2.43 gallons leaking a second. Looking at this video it looks A LOT more then 2.43 gallons second and that is just one leak and its not even the larger leak. This is a massive coverup by BP and govt

Someday, maybe we will get a proper explanation from BP for why they don't do as you suggest. It seems like they are terribly afraid of damaging the BOP any more than it is. But why? Would the leak potentially increase ten-fold if the BOP were to rupture? That's what I have been wondering.

that is far more then 210k gallons in one day. there are 60 seconds in a minute and 60minutes in an hour so do 60x60=3600, 3600 seconds each hour now multiply that by 24 (24hours in a day) and you get 86000 seconds a day. Now divide 210,000/86400 and you get 2.43. So by BP's estimates there are only 2.43 gallons leaking a second. Looking at this video it looks A LOT more then 2.43 gallons second and that is just one leak and its not even the larger leak. This is a massive coverup by BP and govt

why not thread a plug or giant screw in it dam even if she leaks at least it will slow her down
or stuff both side with blanks or ? just cram the terd out of it in to each side to slow it dow.
or ram another pipe in to the hole to the top of ocean to controll it better untill they can seal it. a 20.000 gallon leak is better than a 70.000 gallon leak per day. or lower a pipe over the hole already expanded and once over it let it calaps over it

Someday, maybe we will get a proper explanation from BP for why they don't do as you suggest. It seems like they are terribly afraid of damaging the BOP any more than it is. But why? Would the leak potentially increase ten-fold if the BOP were to rupture? That's what I have been wondering.

This is a piece of jagged 23" pipe known as a riser laying on the sea floor leaking natural gas and oil at a rapid rate. There are two leaks and this is the bigger of gthe two. "Blowing the thing up" will just create more leaks not solve the problem - morons.......
