  • Nope, wrong again. Blacks that were welcomed and joined American Indian tribes. They were Africans not black Indians. Get it right. Look at most of the pictures in the begining, Native Americans.

  • Lovin this history!

  • black-americans are more like to have white/caucasian blood so why arent we talking about that?

  • Black moors & Mongoloids lived in america before columbus or any european step foot on this land. Those dark skin indians are decsendants of moors who lived here. Both moors/mongoloids were under the choctaw, cherokee, mohawk nations. All indians are not sterotypically red with long braids.

  • This country is a melting pot. Indians married and mixed with blacks and whites. White people in amerikkka purposely hide black and indian interactions out of amerikkkan history. Good portion of blacks have indian ancestory. Everyones heritage should be respected . Everyone has right to be proud of their family tree

  • i love my people

  • this is so interesting, is there any more you can upload or are there any links to more info on this? It seems to be an important cultural link in the history of America, such an obvious one too but its usually brushed over very quickly or not mentioned at all.

  • @phylliewilly , the whole documentary is available from Doorknob films

  • my great great great grandmother married a choctaw native

  • my great great great grandmother married a choctaw native. and therefore, my family from her, my great great grandpa came to be, half indian half black, he was a union soldier in the civil war,

  • my great great great grandmother married a choctaw native. and therefore, my family from her, my great great grandpa came to be, half indian half black, he was a union soldier in the civil war, Pvt. David Carr

  • IM SURPRISED I DONT SEE NO WHITE PPL ON HERE TALKIN SHIT

  • My grandmother would always tell me stories on how they always prided them selves in their dance and costumes !!

  • some people just dont need to comment cause they just sound stupid learn your history before commenting on someone else

  • Wonderful history!

  • Thank you for this clip. It was very interesting and answered a lot of questions that I had about Black Indians in New Orleans.

  • Rapper Snoop Dogg was reportedly shocked after genealogy results showed that he is just 71 per cent sub-Saharan African. The results showed that Dogg (real name Cordozar Calvin Broadus) is (6 per cent European) and (23 per cent Native American.)

  • @mihiva

"Those native indians had kids with the black slaves so that's why they called those kids BLACK INDIANS."

and where did you learn that FAIRY TALE from?!?!? ANIMAL PLANET, HISTORY CHANNEL or FOX NEWS?!?!

lmaof ... many AFRICANS WERE ALREADY IN the AMERICAS stupid b4 columbus

  • Black people need to stop trying to steal the Indian identity. Or just because our ancestors may have joined their tribes does not mean they mixed with each other.

  • @rosey10880 you need to acknowledge who gave you "your identity" before you attempt to defend it against the people that are correcting it for you. Why are Indians called Indians?? Because a European Spaniard name Cristobal Colon thought he was sailing to India and you confused people still embrace it today like its good.

  • By 1905, 95% of Americans so called Blacks were reported to be mixed with Native American (The Census Bureau). Most so called Black American born can trace their Ancestory to a Native American Tribe. My family being South American were Arawak mixed with Aboriginals. Now called Amerindian or black Indians in Guyana.

P.S. Because so many Piligrims ran off to join the Native American tribes laws were passed to forbid it. Look it up. Mostly only new Immigrant and Colonist aren't mixed.

  • My great grandmother was half Chocktaw and half Louisiana Creole(Native American/African American/French) ..Does that make her black Indian ?

  • @ to all monkey blacks.

These all are fake black natives of america instead all of them are slave of white people. There is no black natives but red indian instead and they belongs to mongoloied race. They are not white and black but mongoloied who migrated from asia in begining of the earth. Why you monkey race all the time tried to steal someone's civilization and pride.Do you guys really think other people are dumbass like you or monkey brain?.

  • @raj26079 native american's indians did not came from asia fool

  • they call themselves indians because they are honoring the Natives that allowed runaway slaves to stay on their land under protection However, there were native who also had slaves and there were some interracial marriages bet native women and african men.ses...My great great grand was full blooded in her childfren were by a black man and she was raised them on the plantation...

  • My great grandma was choctaw Indian.

  • BLACKS ARE CRAZY

  • My gran and her parents ares from LA their from Mississippi but she's black Indian her mother is,her father is full blooded and it's the same on the other side of my family but more irish. It's cool being black irish and Cherokee. But since my gran was raised black-even tho she looks Indian and her kids as well...i don't know the culture. I wish I did. It's beautiful.

  • i hate wen i tell people im mixed with cherokee and they say well all black people claim do be cherokee well daz not my fault! shiat i actually am

  • Here goes the divide and rule! African people are African as long as the descriptions fits through blood and otherwise. At least, I'm proud of the ancestors who resist slavery to live amongst and integrate with the Indians who share one common enemy. Whether you're black Indian or Negroes, you're accepted and embraced and adored because despite all the problems of the trickeries, you were more humane than some of the European savages at the time...

  • It's funny how people make it seem like we only practice this culture out of respect for the Native Americans and all that other stuff. But Africans don't have nothing to do with us being brown or dark skinned American Indian.

  • Blak Indians??.... hmmmm i think i know what happened. Those native indians had kids with the black slaves so that's why they called those kids BLACK INDIANS.

  • @mihiva yes thats right before 1492 these people were pure Mongoloid

  • @mihiva .... yes thats basically it

  • I am a Black Indian as well, but this video, in my opinion, is not a good representation of who Black Indians are. This is geared more heavily toward African culture than Native American culture. We don't play with tambourines, and the chants sound more African than Native.

  • thank u 2 whoever put this up im born and raised in new orleans always watched da indians do dey thing finally some culture on my city stuck n h-town coming home for mardi gras no doubt 504 2 da bone gristle u heard me much luv keep em coming peace

  • SALSASSIN'S A SELF HATING RACIST!!!

  • Quatribe here, meaning I am made up of four Native American tribes.... Ancestors, From the Choctaw tribe in Monroe Louisiana, Cherokee, Cree by way of Muskogee Oklahoma & Sioux (Canadian side) with African & European ancestry(French creole,Scottish&Irish) I am proud of everyone of them for not bring to cowardly to mix. In some cases it may have been other unfortunate circumstances and God is good anyway to graft the tapestry of beauty of mixing no matter how ugly circumstances can be.

  • People are a joke, trying to pretend they are the Same as Black Americans.\\

When they say their parents are from Jamaica or West African. We know how to identiffy our own. BELIEVE IT OR NOT.\

  • When a Native American mixes with a black person they make a Zambo.

  • My daddy is black, my mother is black. I dont understand why everyone wants to dig all around in their background and blood type hoping and praying they found an ounce of something other than black. I am an African-American tan skinned black with long natural hair. I dont claim no other race.

  • @CreoleQu33n

No such thing as a Louisiana Cherokee, Cherokees were never in Louisiana

Louisiana only has coushatta, choctaw-apache, Houma, chitimacha, isle de jean indians, adai caddo, and tunica-biloxi

  • NO DIFFERENT THAN WATCHING SOUL TRAIN

  • What year was this made in?

  • all black americans are so called "natives indians"

we were so called "native indians" in west africa. our way of life, our traditions, our culture was the same as it was in the west. the only difference is that we were shipped here to america and the natives of america were shipped over to europe. but we are one in the same, we are aboriginal people. infact the only reason why they are called indians today is because the white man assumed they came from east india. THEY ARE ABORIGINALS

  • It annoys me when Blacks try to go out of their way to prove they are decendants of American Indians. First of all, it's kinf of understood, that if your of African decent and American, that your family most likely has been in the USA for hundreds of years, so of course there are going to be mixing of the races. Why would I want to "promote" that I'm the decendant, of a race of people who have basicly been victims of genocide, in America?

  • there are plenty of so called blacks thats full blooded native american..

native american is not a color..you have chinese looking native americans, and you have black looking native americans, then they have the mixed type that look like what hollywood be trying to show us..

  • Africans claiming to be native to this continent... and still looking Africans... Does not make sense to me. This mix has a name, nothing to do with genuine native americans. I could believe there is heritage, but what you look is what you are.

  • Freeman Law kills Black Indians Dreams of the Birthright within the 5 Nations..Sept 6 1839..The Cherokee Nation Seal..Acknowledgement of Cherokee..and my Family won't even talk about it..my Father,Grandmother(R.I.P) "Americanized"..the old ways gone.."Black Natives" NOT BLACK INDIANS!!!! can't even claim there right.. only by words not by the 5 Nations.."The Trail of Tears" might have been relocation..but unity was within the travel..and that's history that should never be erased.

  • Page 1. I wonder do Afro Americans know theirs a difference in the Black race. Let me help you all to understand what Im saying here. SATAN SEED "white man" put it all in the Black Americans mind that they all are from Africa and you are Africans. NOT all you DARK skins are AFRICANS; now you may had came from the same continent but still your identity is different and the Europeans manage to make your ancestors to believe you all AFRICANS to BRAINWASH you for hundreds of years until now.

  • @MsCuriousCat the aboriginals in Australia were never from Africa. They have been on Terra Australis for centuries. They have black skin but they didn't originate from Africa. To say ALL white people originated from Great Britain would be ludicrous right. So why do ignorants insist that just because someone is black or brown they MUST be from Africa. That is truly so dumb.

  • @PRAussie - Everyone originated in Africa. Watch The Human Family Tree. You are right that Aboriginies were some of the first to leave...about 30,000 years ago Out of Africa. But, they were in Africa at one point, like everyone else.

  • @PRAussie

No, it's NOT dumb, considering that the first person who ever existed was proven to have been from Africa. Plus just because they are the oldest people there doesn't mean they originated there---their ancestors obviously migrated from Africa and were the first people to settle there. That's where ALL black people (and people in general) originated from, so there isn't a damn thing dumb about assuming that the ancestors of most black people came form Africa, because they did!

  • @MsCuriousCat im black but all my grandpanrents are indians my grand ma is 64 with jet black long hair but i have dreads and my grandad side came from the bahamas so how am i from african decent i have dreads but my family has long hair

  • Page 2. Some of the DARK skins are the SEEDS of Ancient Hebrew Israelites, Ancient Egyptian and there are true Africans. The Africans that are coming to the US by choice are claiming them self as Black Americans and they are the true African Americans because they are AFRICANS. This is where I strongly feel where you all get confuse with your own race and I like to hear people really get into who you really are for as your true identity.

  • Page 3. Now don’t go start a war with people that are still on the land when you find your roots because if it was not for these people you really would be lost and they have lots of information you may find handy to help you more and remember these people are your people as well. I’m Native Cherokee/Comanche Indian mix with Afro American, I grow up as Native Indian and I know nothing about being Black just what I see on TV but still I can’t connect to the live style.

  • Page 4. In my race we call the Black race the “Afro Americans” not Black because the skin is different shades and we don’t like the word Black to disturb people like you because we are different shades as well.

  • Page 4 1/2. Instead of trying to be like you I thought I help you think about what, who and where you really came from and maybe I can connect there. If you to my people land which is the reservations you will find our younger people like Hip Hop music and dress they way you do just not so drastic we tone it down here Hahahaha.

  • Page 5. Remember just like the “WHITE” race are different “Italian, British, Russian, Spanish, German, French, Swedish” and they list can go on for days; the Dark skin race should be treated the same way and notice the white race did lost their Identity right? The bottom line is they are all EUROPEANS and GOD call them the SEED Of SATAN, it’s in your Bible Revelation 2:9 and 3:9 and that’s why they do what they do best “KILL, STEAL, make WARS and DIVIDE”. Love and PEACE!

  • i'm born and raised in louisiana, but live in chicago now. our history is so rich. i myself have white ancestory.

  • I dont think the indians was totally killed off in North America just made to believe they are African Americans.Think about it why there are so many Hispanics .I live in Michigan WHERE ARE THE iNDIANS.They are still here just black Americans now.

  • Black NDN right here!!!! with asian from the san fransico railroad workers!

  • THERE ARE SO MANY INDIAN TRIBES IN THE AMERICAS AND SO MANY UNTOLD STORIES.

  • Not one REAL Indian in this Video

  • No shit.

  • Great footage !

  • This is fantastic! What an amazing culture of art and music. We must treasure this as a great part of American history.

  • Its very hard for me to understand my heritage. I'm 16 years old and I'm Creole but most of me is African American and Native American. But dont know anything about culture or tradition. It's upseting because my ancestors ran away from the hate in Louisiana and came here to California. It just makes me really upset that all our tradtons have disappeared and I'll never understand who or what I'm really am. =''''(

  • We are all the product of a random mating - why make so much fuss about it? I have a Polynesian friend who has just discovered she is also part Viking and part Cherokee which leaves her feeling pleased... and a little confused. I think people who are balanced and secure don't give a damn about their genealogy.

  • thees are indians slaves

  • Thank you for this video so much.

  • you right @ DementedBCecil cuz im confused lol

  • I think what they are trying to establish, is that blacks must have come here before Columbus and mixed themselves with the native american indians, which certainly seems plausable.

  • I'm from Michigan and my grandfather is Potwatomi...it is obvious he is native american...but he married a black woman. Also a lot of native americans were purposely mixing with blacks at one point too because they didn't want their children to be recognized at Natives because they were being killed and moved off their land. Its really sad. Blacks and natives got along better than people think cause they went through a lot of the same hardships.

  • Blk, Latino, Native American, all the same ppl, so many ppl have had a rewritten european history, they have all been told and we taught that they r different ppl. Natives say theyre sovereign, but they still must pay taxes for the casino, and as long as u pay taxes, ur not sovereign. So divide and conquer. Hence the spanish Inquisition, only effected, north, cen, south America and North Africa, this was deliberate, do u know what was going on before 1492, and who controlled most of the land...

  • Hm, in those southern states black americans had a mixture of NA in, new orleans mississippi, texas, all those.

  • Very interesting

  • There was a wide mixture, with american indians and afro ameericans.

  • The clip makes it clear that Black Indians are Blacks -- self-defined -- dressing as and in honor of Indians (in by now highly stylized costumes that have a life of their own). It has nothing to do with what WonderWoman asks, & it is (contrary to imfrommattapan's worries) a self-chosen self-definition or role.

  • What film is this clip taken from? It's amazing! I'd love to see the whole thing.

  • im black and proud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • when was this video taped?

    it looks like the 70s!!

  • My great grandmother is cherokee, yes i knew her before she died. she explained to me she loved my great grandfather. They both worked on a plantation, not as slaves. She fell in love with him. He was african american. Sometimes hardship brings folks together no matter the race. Why is it so hard to believe that their are african/Indians. big deal lets all just live.

  • Thanks for this video... Down here in new orleans we mostly have a very large mixture of African-Cherokee Indians....

  • its not a mix of african cherokee, you must mean Israelite cherokee.

  • wasnt califorina named after a black woman name queen califa then cnn come on trying to honor mount negro sayn slaves migrated there they use black african american negro to keep you from your land.africans from west africa wrere already here.why does a black woman have the deed too la.

  • The local Indian tribes would show favor to the large slave population in New Orleans. An African Slave could very easily find shelter and protection in an Indian tribe, as a result New Orleans African American genealogy is full of people mix with Indian blood lines. The American Slaves paid homage to the Indians by masking in the same attire that was use to disguised their identify. To learn more about the culture of New Orleans visit our Facebook group called "9th Ward Trivia"

  • the father is the seed carrier so whatever the father is that is what the child is nomatter what the mother is

  • Thank You Very Much for sharing this.

This is truly a celebration of life. Roots.

    .....

  • The Native Americans and the Africans are the people who gave America Culture, without their beauty, we would not make it.

  • Okay this is going to be a stupid question but what is a Black Indian... An Afroamerican muxed with native american?

  • Basically...

  • @DementedBCecil

Incorrect. Afro-American mixed with Native American is only a small portion of the legacy. The narration is purposefully Misinforming the viewers.

  • @DementedBCecil pt.2

By the way my comment was not meant at all to be negative or to "hate" on your post in anyway. I have family members in this documentary. The truth simply is that there is much more to the story. I have posted a Video as a response to this one if you would be kind enough to allow your viewers to connect with the FULL truth in this matter. Peace.

  • Yes a african american mixed with native blood. I think of it as not just being mixed race but being raised native American like I was although I am part black and look mixed.

  • @W0nd3rw0m4n st of all the indians were black you dont sound stupid there tons of artifacts treaties read what charles white wrote and drew what about ramesses in america i could go deep but its late and im tired study

  • @W0nd3rw0m4n You're right, that is a very stupid question and you should be shot for your insolence.

  • Correct .

  • @W0nd3rw0m4n

Umm... not in this context. They're just black people in New Orleans who dress up as Native Americans (often called Mardi Gras Indians.) They don't need to be part Native American at all.

  • @W0nd3rw0m4n , To tell you the truth when you see the rapper Snope Dog you are looking at a blackindian, his DNA was taken and he had more Indian in him then African, European. Now thats food for thought.

  • @W0nd3rw0m4n I took a DNA test to trace my heritage and it turns out that I am 62% African, 33% Native American, 5% European. I am considered a black indian....I say everyone that claim there black indian get ou might not even have a ounce of indian blood and be wrong about your heritage..Dont assume your native when someone in your family look it just get tested! You might be something else! Very important to know.

  • @W0nd3rw0m4n bra it a black person with indian decents

  • @W0nd3rw0m4n no a black indian is for example..a black slave that married to a native american would be an example of a black indian once you married a native you were considered part of the tribe, here is the kicker..the word indian is only used to describe the man/woman that married into the tribe! the more serious question is were there black native tribes in the americas before the slave trade!

  • @qwezzie THEY ARE NOT INDAINS AND DONT EVEN HAVE INDIAN BLOOD HAHAHA YOU FAKE STOP CLAIMING OTHERS HERITAGE

  • A black indian is an "african american" person who practices Native American customs because their blood line comes from the mixing of "native americans" and "black americans".@W0nd3rw0m4n

  • @W0nd3rw0m4n Actually, many original native tribes were black. look up some old photos.

  • @W0nd3rw0m4n Yes.

  • @W0nd3rw0m4n

Yep, that's exactly what it is---don't worry, you didn't ask a stupid question at all! I'm black with Louisiana roots myself---my mother was born/raised in Opelousas in southwestern LA--and she always said we had some Cherokee in us, even though we've never had any concrete proof of that. However, knowing LA's heavily mixed-race background, I wouldn't be the least surprised if I had some partial Indian heritage anyway.

  • @W0nd3rw0m4n

  • @W0nd3rw0m4n , There were black people already in america way before slavery began. But i would guess a black indian is a person mixed with indian blood or just a person who is black thats a indian there are black indians.

  • @W0nd3rw0m4n unless your grand parents were slaves from what is called "Africa" then you are a so called "black indianS." But please keep in my that these words like Black, Indian, and Native America are all terms used by European colonist to divide us as a people. We all come from what was once known as LeMuria and we are all Muurs. We have been told these lies to keep us from Coming together as 1 HUMAN RACE...RESEARCH INTO DA HISTORY IF UR CONFUSED ABOUT THE TRUTH!!!

  • @2009thetwinz

LeMuria is an invention to devide the nation. Actually, the crows are a cultural cinstruction, they didn``t exist in reality.

  • only a fool will tell you not to claim your heritage. my mother, and grandmother are black Indians, as well as my mother's farther having native ancestry. now my farther was born in jamaica, with his mother, his farther was born in martinique. so i'm a native american, french- west indian, afro american, and i claim all my heritage, and not just some. this is who i am, and no one should be able to tell you who you are people.

  • @imfrommattapan So when you are told to put your race on a application, or a document you put "Other" or do you write "Native American, french-west indian, afroamerican? Why not just say Im black and west indian.

  • all yall confuse. All yall claiming indian, but i dont see no indians claiming yall.

  • yall some confuse negros. All yall claiming indian blood even know the tribe. But do any of yall know what tribe your african blood line from.

  • i'm african american with native blood also

  • If an Irish man sleeps with an "italian american" woman and their child claims both is he confused? Is part of a person is black and the other part Indian...they should just claim to be black? Ignore their native american blood?...That ancestory?...Isn't it all true? ... Like black people with white ancestors? How do you ignore Our president being both for example. This whole race thing...I tell ya

  • @DementedBCecil sorry there was no mix indians were black like the origanals in aus. ,the tasmanins that were quickly killed sorry but ramsess beat your colombo.study research

  • I think your talking a load of shit

  • @DementedBCecil Your confused not us

  • @DementedBCecil what if a "black american" has a child with an Easter Indian woman and just says they're black?

They would be correct in saying that because they are. It doesn't matter what land a person comes from or what nationality they go by if they're white they're white, if they're black they're black.

But in this day in age we break down even people of the same "race" as different. People are suckers for a lil straight hair and light skin.

I guess light skinned is supposed to mean -cnt

  • @DementedBCecil you're not black, or you're supposed to be "mixed". Well tell, what are the Native Americans mixed with? Since clearly there are drastic differences in the original tribes' skin tones some tar black and others light brown, they'd have the be "mixed" with somethin right?

Or is it all just bullshit? Why is South America so heavily "Afro" American populated?

Spanish must have brought a whole looooooooaaad of black folks over here huh?

I wish I could link pictures on here but alas.

  • @DementedBCecil its complete bs, lol even modern society has its flaws, I know it sucks

  • @DementedBCecil i know its such bullshit! race..

  • @DementedBCecil I honestly Americans are stupid, regarding that matter... if you mother is Italian, and your father is Irish, and you are born in the United States, you are that, an AMERICAN, not an Irish-Italian, or anything else...

  • @DementedBCecil YOU DONT MAKE SENSE

  • all i see is some pretty confused african americans!!!!

  • the confused blacks are not being confused and lied to any longer. They are starting the find out the truth that was hidden by whites. Whites like yourself are in fear that the age of enlightenment is upon us. The whites are scurrying about to try to keep the lid on, but all you do to achieve this will not work. Its time to shed all the truth thats been in darkness. Theirs nothing you and your brethen can do. :D

  • How do you know they are africans. Just because a person has dark skin doesn't mean they are African or come from africa. Aborigines aren't african and polynesians aren't african and they have dark skin. Now who is confused? lol

  • thats because your ignorant gentile

  • I am not confused. My mother is part Muscogee creek and very little black, my father is more black. I am proud of all that I am. I grew-up more Native American than black. my friends were Native some were black. It seems that if you are African American you cannot claim anything that your are except African. My mother went to Africa in the 1950's and lived their for seven years and the Africans did not except her as black although she thought whe would be excepted. Sad.

  • what a stupid statement but what would anyone expect from you

  • my girlfriend mother is afro-jamaican and her father is west african/cherokee and cree descent but my girlfriend look more like her mother

  • her sister is dark skinned be she looks more native american

  • im a black indian too!

  • Yes, i am to.

  • @BarbarosaBrothers So am I: Blackfoot!

  • how many indian tribes are there?

  • There are so many some of them were wiped out with complete genocide. But over time many others have formed.

  • there were more than 2,000 tribes in the united states before white man came.

  • I'm of black and seminole descent and i find this very informative

  • im from new orleans

  • yaeh im a black indian my moms black and of native american descent and my dads indian and i have a tawnyish coco/caramel comlex and dark long curly hair.

  • i have seen this whole program on tv

    CONFISCASTED.

  • What does the word Indian mean?

  • indian comes from indus which means black, because the original Indian Native to America was black, as settlers from east west and north invaded and settles they interbreaded with the orinial aboriginals making their skin lighter and hair straighter, but some black native already had straight hair bcuz all black ppl dont have coily hair...hotep brothas...

  • indian comes from indus which means black, becuz the original Indian Native to America was black, as settlers from east ,west, north invaded and settles they interbreaded with the orinial aboriginals making their skin lighter and hair straighter, but some black native already had straight hair bcuz all black ppl dont have coily hair...hotep brothas...

  • columbus thought he was in the west indies when he came to america and called the native people indians and the name just stuck with them after that

  • @wolvenancestry992 columbus didnt do shit

  • The Aztecs were bred out of existence by the Spanish. Your native land is Spain.
