There really should be something that lifts art into the consciousness of people and makes it possible for voices with such talent to live equitably. You are privileged to have been able to work with him. I can't make any great pronouncements about him being the best at this or that but I can say I think he was sincere and the genuine article. Objectively, for his influence on other musicians he should be better represented. Subjectively, he was one you had to go to to 'rock with the best!'.
Check out It aint easy produced by Elton john & Rod Stewart this is John how he should be remembered . Used to see him every sunday at Eel Pie Island with Rod Stewart and sometimes Elton.Last Gig was at Landmark Trust Teddington where met him with his friend of old Liz Gill from RCA days . This was not far from Eel Pie Island.Once my Swedish friend Gunnel got on the stage at Dingwalls Dance Hall and presented him with a melon . He exclaimed "Get off the stage woman!!" A real character.
@Mosparx78 I disagree... it might sound that way, but I think it's just an enthusiastic crowd, which I think most artists want, and poor placement of the microphone(s).
i met john.you could not ask for a better person, very down to earth.i was shocked to learn he had passed.besides music he slso did voice overs for cartoons and commericals.we lost a great bluesman RIP JOHN. thanks for posting this video.
I was lucky to go to England in the 60, and discover him and his music and follow him ever since. True not much said about him in the States, what a shame, but he was one of the back bone of rock n roll in England, and many over there enjoy him. He will be missed by true rockers, like me.
Yes, & thanks, I've been watching all of them on a fairly regular clip - of late, especially this one and Black Girl. Cool music, to be certain - and the authentic nature of these shootings-wow!. We watching are greeen with envy. Thanks again. I'll send you a video soon. Rock on!
The guy was amazing, I recognized that before even I knew what his name was long ago, although he didn't get much airplay in K.C., I managed to tape this song after it had been out quite a while, on a rare time they did play it,in the wee hours, no less. I was really young when it first came out, though. He apparently inspired a lot of performers, the more I found out about him. McCartney dug him & had him play on a Beatle special. He gave Rod & Elton John a good band to be in their early years.
This was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia where he retired. I believe it was his last live performance. The legendary "conditional discharge" dialogue. The very best is from his album, "IT AINT EASY"...IT'S ON HERE...thanks to Texaslim
I saw him a few years ago . He was on tour in the UK with the Manfreds ( Paul Jones, Mike D`Abo etc ) and Chris Farlowe. It was a great night and I met LJB afterwards in the theatre bar where he was happy to chat with fans and give autographs . He was a great guy and is sadly missed. Still have a personally dedicated signed programme somewhere.
Long John Baldry is awesome! Any up-and-coming blues musicians or musicians in general need to get out the pen and paper and take some notes because this is musical genious! Good post Andy! Keep kickin ass man!
I remember listening to LJB in the seventies, great party music. I remember a guy doing a pantomime to this "Boogie Woogie"piece, you had to be there,it was a crack up. Always loved his music but never knew much about him. Recently picked up "It ain't easy".
John was a dear friend for many years, these three videos made me tearful. Please message me when you release the full show. Thanks for sharing. Peace.
I had an 8 track recording of Baldry and ej was listed as a piano player. this was before ej went big on his own. I do believe i had read also that ej was on this recording. it is much better than what is on this site.
This was on a Warner Bros LP "It Ain't Easy" released around 1071-72 under the title "Don't Lay No Boogie Woogie On The King of Rock 'n Roll" with Alan Skidmore on tenor sax
SnooPING AS usual I see!

John gave too much to music to meet the end he did. Great musician.
Deserves a lot more recognition.

Hi JazzMan5000
This is from LJBs last live show in the USA.
He did go on to play some shows in Europe and Canada.
This show was a last minet agreement as LJB only had a three day visa to play in the USA and it was for the Syracuse Blues fest..
