@IntheSkyWifDiamondz Just heat up some water and sift in the knox. You can let it cure, then re-melt it to create a slightly creamier mix. You can add glycerin to increase the melt temp. Make sure you always test it on your skin before you put it on someone else though. The more water you use, the lower the melt temp. You can mix in foundation or loose powder for coloration if you like to intrinsically pre-color.
Me and a few friends are doing a video production sunday on a scene from the book The Hunger Games, so we'll see how it works, it'll be up on youtube soon :]
So instead of actually stirring the gelatin in it, you just kinda move it around until it dissolves, is what you mean by sifting it in the water?
is there any way you could do a video or give instructions on how to use the Know gelatine? because i bought some unflavored gelatin, and i can't get it to the right consistency.... i totally don't understand how to do it! :)
@mizzglamourqueen You might be having issues with crystallization. I would recommend letting the Knox gelatin cool, then re-melting in the microwave (making sure to not burn or bubble). You could do this a few times. It makes the gelatin finer and more "creamy". Also, make sure you sift the gelatin in hot water. ALWAYS let the gelatin cool to a safe temperature before putting on yours or others skin, however.
Hey I love your videos they look so real I tried you black eye it was amazing sorry I didnt get a picture to show yu but yur amazing thanks for yur time to read this burr
@mizzglamourqueen You can get gelatin from many different sources. Pre-made and pre-tinted is what we provide in the students makeup kits here at CMS. Unflavored is Knox gelatin that you can buy at most grocery stores in the states. You can mix with water and voila! Just be very careful to keep the temperature of the gelatin as low as you can when working on someone's skin.
@Pogokoala Latex can work if you have no other materials handy. The benefits to using a silicone or more transluscent ager material would be you can blend the edges better into the skin than latex itself.
I really appreciate you putting these tutorials up! I'm a big fan of your school and wish I could attend. I work full time for one of the big studios, so I can't attend one of your full programs.
Do you offer any shorter programs (possibly on nights or weekends) for us poor working stiffs?
So far I've had to learn prosthetic, character and effects makeup online and through DVD programs. Sources like the effects lab have been a big help, but I'm always looking for new places to learn!
you can use 3rd Degree (silicone material, see other tutorial) or latex and cotton. I think there may be other burn effects materials made of plastics as well, might want to ask at one of the pro makeup stores.
Yes, definitely either the 3rd Degree silicone putty or even Art Anthony's silicone putty. There are more old school methods like mortician's wax or latex and cotton. I have not personally tried any of the vegan gelatin alternatives, such as kosher gelatin, or agar agar. I'd love to do some experimentation with them : )
Is there a cheaper alternative to the Skin illustrator palette or a place I can buy it cheaper than normal?

THIS IS AMAZING! THANK YOU SOO MUCHH!
Whut kind of gelatin can you use from the store though?
IntheSkyWifDiamondz 11 months ago
@IntheSkyWifDiamondz You can purchase "Knox" brand gelatin. It's unflavored, and used for cooking. It's a coarser texture, but can work.

@IntheSkyWifDiamondz Just like sprinkling it slowly into the warm liquid so it doesn't clump up too much.
