My parents were refugees who escaped to the south to Yugoslavia and lived in a refugee camp for 13 months where they buried their first-born 2 days after her birth. Parents never talked about it much. It was horrific conditions.

@TheDavor1000 the Horthy regime wasn't a truly democratic regime in the modern sense, but was far from being fascisct. In fact Horthy opposed all extremist views including nazism. It was after Hungary's German occupation that nazis came to power. I'm not proud of Horthy, but I wouldn't call him fascist, though if you knew more about Hungarian history, you would unterstan better his leadership. (sory for my english)

2. It did not occupy any countries, just liberated its thousand-year-old territories. It attacked the evil Soviet Union after some planes in Soviet colours had bombed the city of Kassa. (Though supposedly it was the act of Germans to have a casus belli.)
3. Nazis got into power in Hungary only after the German occupation, and taking Horthy as prisoner.

But I have nevert heard anything about any such hungarian uprising against Horthy fascist regime during WWII, brutal regime that took part in occupation of other countries, including my country, and regime responsible for hundreds of thowsands of killed people by hungarian nazis.
If that revolution ever happened I would beleive in great hungarian heroism, but like this, sorry ...

@TheDavor1000 the Horthy regime wasn't a truly democratic regime in the modern sense, but was far from being fascisct. In fact Horthy opposed all extremist views including nazism. It was after Hungary's German occupation that nazis came to power. I'm not proud of Horthy, but I wouldn't call him fascist, though if you knew more about Hungarian history, you would unterstan better his leadership. (sory for my english)

1. Horthy's regime was far from fascism and nazism.
2. It did not occupy any countries, just liberated its thousand-year-old territories. It attacked the evil Soviet Union after some planes in Soviet colours had bombed the city of Kassa. (Though supposedly it was the act of Germans to have a casus belli.)
3. Nazis got into power in Hungary only after the German occupation, and taking Horthy as prisoner.

that wasn't communism. The soviet bureaucracy was incredibly hypocritical, and besides it followed leninism, which takes great liberties with standard socialist ideology. Most communists agree that the USSR was a poor example of socialism, many just call it state-capitalist.

But as we have seen, such oppressive and totalitarian "superpowers" don't last in the long stand. Eventually those countries have collapsed sooner or later. Ancient Rome, Nazi Germany and Soviet Union just for example. Let's see when North Korea and China collapse...

My cousin John escaped during the Revolution of 56. He stayed with us for almost 2 years. All the Hungarian American families in the Buckeye Rd neighborhood of Cleveland did whatever they could to support our brothers. Unfortunately the President failed to support Hungary. One Battalion of the 101st Airborne dropped into Budapest, and Stalin never would have risked returning. I would like to add to USDS, that if you ask any Hungarian who the enemy was, they'll tell you THE RUSSIANS !

But it was not anticommunist, it was against the Stalinist rule in Hungary, and the workers were the one who said no to Stalinism. Communism is always made equal to Stalinism and slavery.
