You know, if we're going to compare horse feet to human feet, why don't we just walk where horses walk while barefoot ourselves? Regardless of where they go.
It depends on the horse I wish owners would stop getting their opinions involved and just do what is best for the animal. This is why I get my horses x-rayed and seek the help of a professional farrier so that working together they can discover the best options for the individual horse.
This comparison is completely invalid. We have a totally different make up then a horse does. The horses have evolved since the ice age. Shoeing saves horses some horses are born with awful legs and feet and would have just been killed off in the wild but with corrective shoeing and proper care those horses are able to live happy healthy lives. Horses that compete generally get shod to protect their feet from waring down. All horses have different needs, I have one barefoot and two shod.
This is a bad comparison. Human feet are A LOT more sensitive than horses'. They have hard hoof, where we have soft skin. The comparison between the 2 horses is also bad. They are different horses, they are going to move in different ways, so it really doesn't show us if the boots work better than iron shoes or not...personally I like using iron shoes. I'm not saying that these boots wouldn't work better for some horses.
Anoniab, the horse shown 2:22 ... was at the time of recording session 19 years old and galloping on tar - so I guess theres nothing to be sorry for :-)
The problem we have in the uk is one the climate and most of the horse's are not native ie a flat footed horse on wet ground, some of the horse here where not "built" for these conditions, add the weight of a rider and tack, put all of this on an artifial surface (sand shcool, tarmac) without shoes and you have a problem, Please people do not buy into everything you see or hear, Do research and do the best for your horse, if that means shoes then so be it , if no shoes then all the be
interesting. I've always prefered barefoot horses because they don't slip or fall as often as shod horses. These plastic boots look like they really make a difference!
You CAN'T compare human anatomi to the horses!!! Some horses do better with ironshoes, some do better without. I've seen too many horses suffer, because their owners insist on them going barefoot.
You have to use common sense!! Not all indivituals are the same!!
@Beintajo Yes, all horse are the same. The horse living in the Ice Age, the present-day wild horse, and the high-performance domestic breeds of today are all anatomically, physiologically, and psychologically alike. They all share the same biological requirements for health, long life, and soundness. A few generations of focused breeding cannot erase the genetics of an animal that has been around 54 million years.
Yes the hoof is flexible, but not at all like the human foot! The anatomy is NOT the same! And as I said earlier, to many horses suffer from stubborn owners who insist on them going barefoot!!
If you want to keep your horse "natural" at all costs, stop riding them! Then there is no problem in keeping them barefoot.
Thanks, very interesting video! In Russia while there are not enough people who know that the horseshoe is harmful to a horse. But we try to make this idea more and more popular!

@Beintajo - Arne only use common sense. Ofcourse you can compare. the hoof is flexible, if you fix it with iron you have a problem.
