It is not an individual service member's job to interpret lawful and unlawful orders. An order is an order. If you took the oath, you follow said orders until they are proven unlawful.

I have also seen service members go to Court Martial for failure to follow an order. My last comment stands. An order is an order and must be obeyed. The oath of service does not differentiate between Lawful and Unlawful orders.

I spent 62 months in Afghanistan and Iraq and I fought FOR and WITH these two countries. I never once fought for corporate greed when I was pulling security on the construction of a school. Or the building of a new Water Purification Plant. Or when we opened up a medical clinic in a small Afghan Village. Or when we had a Shura with local Afghan Tribal Leaders to help solve problems.

It's one thing to simply disagree with the war for personal reasons, but it's another thing to disregard the fact that the UN Security Council backed the US-led invasions of both Afghanistan and Iraq.

I have also seen service members go to Court Martial for failure to follow an order. My last comment stands. An order is an order and must be obeyed. No matter his reasons and no matter you look at it, the bottom line is he is a coward and does not deserve any respect. I hope he gets a dishonorable discharge on his record, because every future employer needs to know this guy will not do the job he has agreed to. Not only that, he deserted the men he swore to fight with.

After Gulf War 1, as part of the CEASE FIRE, the UN passed 22 resolutions which AUTHORIZED continued MILITARY ACTION against Iraq for failure to comply. Iraq FAILED to comply with 18 of the 22 which AUTHORIZED continued military action.

I spent 62 months in Afghanistan and Iraq and I fought FOR and WITH these two countries. I never once fought for corporate greed when I was pulling security on the construction of a school. Or the building of a new Water Purification Plant. Or when we opened up a medical clinic in a small Afghan Village. Or when we had a Shura with local Afghan Tribal Leaders to help solve problems.
I would willingly die and fight for those countries why'll you bitch on the computer.

You can circle jerk the arguments for going to war all you want. Point is, we were told that Sadam had WMDs and that was the reason George Bush and his administration used to get the American people behind the war. Very little was mentioned about UN resolutions or their non-compliance in this or that ceasefire. We were told about WMDs, which they had none.
The war was a waste of resources, money and blood.
