I have to comment on Lorenachika's comment. It might have something to do with politics but I don't think it's the main reason. I think it has something to do with the music-taste in the different areas of Europe. Many of the countries lying close to each other was voting for each other, but many of the neigbouring countries also had the same stile of music in the contest.
