Am only 21 and i used to watch these cartoon my nana got them all on tape for me and my sister when wee were kids, when i though that baby bird was dead i cryed when i was little i was horrifed . haha
I find it hard to believe that this tragedy was remade two times. First as "The Playful Polar Bears", another Color Classic, and then into a Little Audrey cartoon, which were all just as heartbreaking. They all share one thing in common...
Just when it seems all hope is lost, when hearts come together in sorrow, somehow everything will be alright in the end.
So thank you, Max Fleischer and Paramount. You really know how to tell a story! =D
This cartoon would really frighten me when I was a kid. My mom always told me that I'd cry hysterically whenever I saw it. Years later, I still get a little teary, seeing it again.
luv this episode i gt it on tape and tried to watch it yesterday and lik da part were da all prayed and he kame bk to live messed up and i so sooooo mad!!!!! im happi nw dat i found it!!!
Thank you so much. It's kinda weird how I remembered to look for this cartoon.
I was in a thrift shop with my lil sis and I was looking at the old vhs selection they had and one of the vhs tapes was one that I had as a little kid and this cartoon was on the tape along with Raggedy Ann in the enchanted square. 8D
I had this on vhs and it had a few cartoons on it including, "Happy Go Lucky", "Small Fry", The one with the cat and the rats, and the one with the blind girl that finds this doll that comes to life.
It's totally amazing to me that such a simple media has the power to demonstrate good and evil, joy and pain in such stark and unmistakable terms. Fantastic work really and so basic to the core of what we believe is right or wrong.
Thanks for sharing this piece of art. I've never seen it before, but I won't soon forget it. :)

This is similar to an Andy Griffith episode where Opey (I don't know if I have his name spelled right.) accidentally shoots a mother bird.

This used to make me so sad when I was a kid. Now I find the funeral scene kind of creepy, haha.

I remember this cartoon, watching it on our b&w TV over 45 years ago.
I get tears forming every time the boy cries in thankfulness to God for bringing the bird back to life.
But Betty Boop and Pudgy in "Little Nobody" gets my vote as the greatest and most heProxy-Connection: keep-alive
