  • Thanks man good stuff... usually on my final mix I like to run the bass to trigger all instruments, and it does work,

  • @joelananias Hi, glad the tutorial was resourceful. Thanks for watching!

  • sweet thanks

  • Name those tracks, boy!

  • ok so I did exactly what you said but if I click the side chain button as you have instructed then the compression doesn't work. If its not pressed it works ??

  • fuckn hate the ads on youtube

  • HOW do you Record your screen in Protools "Cam Studio"? Ive been having problems with this...I use Cam studio..I can record anything else through my PCI card, but dont cant get audio when I try to record tutorials.

  • @LastDayStudios Hi, thanks for getting in touch. The issue with screen capturing Pro Tools is that the Mbox or DigiRack launches Digi-Core Audio which takes control of the audio routing. You need to route your audio via the Audio Settings menu and make sure that the Camtasia audio settings are set to the right interface.

  • @WinkSound I'm using the 003 Rack interface to record Audio In protools... I routed "Camstudio's" Audio to match analog outputs 1+2 on the Interface, but still didnt pick up the audio from the recording. It did record the screenshot, but just didnt record the Audio playing in Protools. I really value your response, I watch all of your tutorials..thanks for the feedback. I need to get started making Mixing tutorials as well.

  • @WiNKsound ... do you have anything about vocal tutorials... prefferably for hiphop / alternative and r'n'b vocals. My question is, when in a recording session... How do I obtain a "safe" peak level when either myself is recording a singer when going into higher notes without compromising the recording of those vocals. If i'm making any sense here... please let me know if you can assist me in any way. I am using Protools 8, on a PC with an Mbox 2 Mini interface.

  • thank you!

  • This is good and well... but it's misleading because the gentleman in the video states that this is an example of sidechaining as is used for House and Pop production, but this is the exact OPPOSITE of that particular application. If you want to produce that kind of music, you put a compressor that supports sidechain on the bass track, and route the kick (as he shows in the video) to the compressor on the bass track. Just to clear that up.

  • no offense but these winksound videos are not really helpful do a whole mix

do your own mixes and let us judge from the video what we want to use or not use if you want to help

  • Your didn't PFL the Bass send.....

  • thanks for this

  • I was using Reason and Ableton for some time now...

The other day i decided to buy Pro Tools 8...

And i would want to thank you a billion for your tips...

It really helps me with some questions i have since Pro Tools interface is not really familiar to me!!!

    Many thanx mate!! :D

Keep up the good work!!! :D

  • thanx a million justin. i come from using analog consoles and patchbays to do this. it is cool to know how to utilize it through the digital domain. u da man!!!

  • in my opinion ... for yallz out there ... you want to do the exact opposite ... keep the kick thumpin and sidechain compress the bass so it's out of the way of the kick ... but the pumps back in and maintains its strength ... ultimately giving you thumping kick AND bass without having to pick one or the other ...

  • @Friknsteve Thanks for checking out the video and contributing your take and information on side chaining. You can really use side chaining for anything. You can come up with alot of really effets and give your music different feels depending on how you use the side chaining.

    Talk toy ou soon

  • @WiNKsound Yeah I agree with both of you. Im not exactly a pro at this (hence why i'm on this video), but what I tried both ways and it sounded different but equally as interesting. I guess you can side chain along with any instrument, as long as its loud enough right?

  • @LastCommand Excatly. Try using with different elements in your mix. You can end up with some real cool effects. Also try the same technique but with a gate instead of a compressor. That's real cool if you want to get choppy, rhythmic parts.

  • @WiNKsound Your a genius. I never thought of using a gate with a key input. Thanks for that!

  • @Friknsteve

I agree...I meant just listenin' on my computer speakers, that sounds like a hiphop sounding beat and for hip-hop you always want that kick thumpin'...like the police are knockin' yo door down :)

  • @Friknsteve I concur, the kick is the one that has to be sidechained to get a good mix. still a good lesson though.

  • GOOD DETAILS..

  • thanks alot!!!!! u just helped me not fail my sound engineering class :P

  • Appreciate your time and effort to do this ..

  • @SaeBap Thanks for checking out the tutorial!

Let us know if we can ever help out with any other music production topics.
