When I was a kid, I had a fixed gear bike, as per usual. I lived on the top of a big ole hill and I remember riding down it, you'd stick out your legs so you don't have to try and keep up with the pedals.

i love single speed fixed gears. They were great to work on as a bike mechanic. And the brooks saddle makes a nice touch. And although i'm not a huge fan of longboards, I think Arbor does them right.

it's a very slow process to ride in the rain without brakes, so i tend not to do it very often. plus you have to wipe the bike down afterwards so as to protect it from rust. too much time :)

Hi Jess,

The interesting thing about "fixies" is that most of us learnt to ride on bikes with only one gear and the only brake was stopping pedalling. How spoilt we become as we get older, how consumed we become in having the latest and greatest.

Hope you get to enjoy many hours riding with Mary, even if the compromise is she gets to have brakes and gears on her bike.
