I think that the biggest problem with his logic is that the history of the concept of a conquering Christ, is an old pre-modern concept, which predates European colonialism by 2000 years (Read NT Wright's "Surprised by Hope). Really, I don't see any smoking guns of modernism in Evangelical Christianity, except in that many early Christian concepts were inherited by both enlightenment thinkers and modern evangelicals (for instance the value of human life, and the concept of equality).

You didnt say why he was a wolf in sheep's clothing, all you did was say it and use 2 passages to back up what you said. Christians cling to much to the Bible, dont forget it was written by men 40 yrs after Jesus left the earth. Im not discrediting the Bible just pointing out that while it is divinely true, divine truth can be found in many places. The Jews clinged too much to their scripture and is the reason why they missed the Messiah

The "old paradigm" that he finds himself so bored with is full of eternal truth. Even from an eastern point of view, Christianity is loaded with eternal dharmic verities such as the guru principle, bhakti-yoga, the power of brahmacharya (moral self control), and much more. This guy is a shallow mind.

I don't think those are the principals he is 'bored' with. Protestantism was the new paradigm at one point. Subconscious ideas that are picked up by people are often the ones that influence them. Ever notice how a Catholic church is set up? It's designed in the fashion of a King's Court. Kings sat where the alter in the church is with his back to the wall for fear of being attacked which is also why he would force people to bow in his presence. These images shouldn't be associated with God.
