@mikethk You also have less blood in your body; less blood means less oxygen in your body. If your arms are doing work, blood from your legs will eventually carry to your arms to help; he doesn't have that option.

The test showd if he had normal legs, he would be about 10 seconds slower. Amputee or not. If you are allowed to run with protheses, you are allowed to run with doping. Which is clearly the same. The athletes who use doping are unable to compete without this kind of protheses, too.

@brikben1205 It would be unfair if they all started at the same line, but the farther out you are, the farther ahead you start in equal increments which bye the end of a race makes everyone run the same, thats why outer lanes are always ahead at first and then equal out after the turns.
Any advantage the legs may give in energy rebound or spring is instantly negated by the fact that this guy is effectively running blind, he has to run just as fast as his competitors without being able to feel how he is running on the lower half and make corrections, something which I feel takes even more work and dedication, so bravo

@brahim121985brahim If it was a big advantage, he would have came out number 1 all the time. The blade are designed with restrictions. They are not as bouncy as when the early versions. This one takes in impact like real legs. When there is no rebound, there is no advantage. Look at his early videos and see the difference.

What some easy people trying hard not to understand is
1- When you dont have your both legs since your child obviously you dont have most of muscles in your feet
2- Many muscles never grow in your body as you dont have several types of special body motions
3- your not able to stand or just walk coz hardest thing is to control your body from falling over if ever could try to run as your body has basic problems
still think not having both legs is advantage there you go, be the next champion!

He also has horrible horrible traction comparatively. See how his legs fly out to the side? This man is an inspiration and were he able bodied he would be competing for 1st. I'm honestly surprised he's doing sprinting events. He'd be even better in marathons if he trained for them. I mean, what's he gonna have? Heel injuries? Calf cramps? Toe pain?
@killdeslm problem with that theory is that the calf, the foot muscles, etc., all provide spring too, and even MORE control over the movement of the body in a curve. He clearly has a great disadvantage, and could fall at any time. He's mastered something that is otherwise hard to do. He's like the lady without hands that has learned to paint with a brush held between her toes. Ease up, this man is an inspiration and the fact that he is competing at this level is NOT because of some sticks.
if being a double amputee and running on carbon fibre prostheses is such an advantage, why are we not looking at hordes of paralympians breaking all the records set by 'able-bodied' athletes? Give the man a break, you tossers and realise quite what a remarkable feat this is.
@tgct17 His qualification to compete is based on the advantage he would have as well as where that may take competition in the future. Athletes want to win by any means necessary. They sacrifice all types of things to win, social lives, diets, putting their bodies through brutal physical training, etc. If there appears to be a clear advantage you can be sure to start seeing athletes begin voluntarily modifying their bodies to get that edge just like steroids.
@tgct17 hordes of double amputees? There just aren't that many of them, let alone ones that are as physically capable as Oscar. This is such a BAD argument it's not even funny. (I know Oscar has used the very same one in an interview.) At any rate, I'm not banging on the guy--I think what he's doing is great. But I think there's room to question whether or not he really does have an advantage because of the double prostheses.

The test showd if he had normal legs, he would be about 10 seconds slower. Amputee or not. If you are allowed to run with protheses, you are allowed to run with doping. Which is clearly the same. The athletes who use doping are unable to compete without this kind of protheses, too.

@brikben1205 It would be unfair if they all started at the same line, but the farther out you are, the farther ahead you start in equal increments which bye the end of a race makes everyone run the same, thats why outer lanes are always ahead at first and then equal out after the turns.

Any advantage the legs may give in energy rebound or spring is instantly negated by the fact that this guy is effectively running blind, he has to run just as fast as his competitors without being able to feel how he is running on the lower half and make corrections, something which I feel takes even more work and dedication, so bravo

@brahim121985brahim I was thinking the same thing. I know it would help by not having so much pain in his ankles and feet (obviously), but I think the pain would just transfer to the points where his legs rest on the expansions. I dunno. Either way, dude's a beast for never letting down.

@brahim121985brahim If it was a big advantage, he would have came out number 1 all the time. The blade are designed with restrictions. They are not as bouncy as when the early versions. This one takes in impact like real legs. When there is no rebound, there is no advantage. Look at his early videos and see the difference.

What some easy people trying hard not to understand is
1- When you dont have your both legs since your child obviously you dont have most of muscles in your feet
2- Many muscles never grow in your body as you dont have several types of special body motions
3- your not able to stand or just walk coz hardest thing is to control your body from falling over if ever could try to run as your body has basic problems
still think not having both legs is advantage there you go, be the next champion!

good for him, he works incredibly hard, but I don't at all think he should be competing against people with normal legs. But everybody wants to be PC, and he keeps whining, so i guess he'll get his way. I think he should just be satisfied with his great times and piss off.

@trav11193 They are not even close to an advantage. Everyone else gets to run with their calfs and thighs. This guy does all his work with his upper legs. He also has horrible horrible traction comparatively. See how his legs fly out to the side? This man is an inspiration and were he able bodied he would be competing for 1st. He's made the best with what he has. And him in the para Olympics, is just kinda funny because of how far above everyone else he is.

@killdeslm problem with that theory is that the calf, the foot muscles, etc., all provide spring too, and even MORE control over the movement of the body in a curve. He clearly has a great disadvantage, and could fall at any time. He's mastered something that is otherwise hard to do. He's like the lady without hands that has learned to paint with a brush held between her toes. Ease up, this man is an inspiration and the fact that he is competing at this level is NOT because of some sticks.

@tgct17 His qualification to compete is based on the advantage he would have as well as where that may take competition in the future. Athletes want to win by any means necessary. They sacrifice all types of things to win, social lives, diets, putting their bodies through brutal physical training, etc. If there appears to be a clear advantage you can be sure to start seeing athletes begin voluntarily modifying their bodies to get that edge just like steroids.

(I know Oscar has used the very same one in an interview.) At any rate, I'm not banging on the guy--I think what he's doing is great. But I think there's room to question whether or not he really does have an advantage because of the double prostheses.
