Fml, I can't get a map with a warm are (without aquifer) and once winter hits, everyone dies of thirst, infection, or drowns in my attempts to make a good well....no underground Rivers either...
You've gotta deploy your military and keep them stationed while you work the adamantium, along with other measures (cave-ins)
Unless your working the kind of adamantium i've been working lately, I was able to find the top of the adamantium tubes and its quite safe as there is no opening, just don't follow the tubes to far down. =P
So basically, if you struck admantium and is not a risk-taker, DROP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND RUN LIKE HELL? Because there's a chance that the vein you struck might be right next to Hell, or a Balrog pit or even a Cthulhu lair?
Lol to bad I just learned about this. I found adamantine digging out my central staircase followed shortly after by finding the hell pit. Had no military to speak of.
adaman-TEEN not adaman-TINE. but AWESOME, the filthy elves got what was coming to them =D
And yes, water should get them, only if you're dealing with tentacle or Spirit of Fire demons though. Frog demons can breathe underwater, obviously. Spirits of Fire are immune to magma. The bottom line -- If you breach a chamber, you'd better have your miner learn how to build walls very fast and seal it since he's closest.
Hah. a handful of my warriors killed 4-5 spirits, they were almost all burned though, but they bought my fortress enough time to seal them down into the mines. I've exploited a lot of the adamantite, tho ; P
One day I might go down and kill them all. With crossbows I guess.
Even though they can't breathe, they're made of fire, so water should kill them. Water and Fire does not mix well, and i'm sure they should not survive long enough if you flood it, however you would've lost your mine, and your adamantine.
Yeah, but some simple floodgates would stop the water flow when you wantit, after the demons are dead hopefully. Also the pit at the bottom would drain away the excess water.
Haha this was great, my first sight of these hellish beasts! I just wanted to leave a comment and thank you for these tutorials, I have really learned a lot so far and I hope you keep on making these videos.
I hmm I wonder If you could flood the floor they are on and kill them. Like preparing a flood before you even open up the chamber, or flood the chamber itself. I think that would kill the fire spirits. The frog ones shouldn't be too much of a problem.
This is one of the solutions im trying, allthough according to the wiki spirits of fire dont breathe, so i dont know if it will help. It ought to douse them atleast or something
it would work, if you managed to have water and magma on all the tiles at the same time... which is impossible. (the obsidian formed stops further contact, so you only get one row of tiles filled with rock.)
It's not very useful as a defense except in the open, against non-flying enemies, where you have room above to have the water to drop, and the magma on the sides to fill the targeted area.
Obsidian casting is best used for creating above-ground fortresses that are engravable.
hehe, you should back up your save, in a side folder, then play through the demon destruction, then you could make a video about reclaiming a failed fortress. :)
Captnduck, PLEASE add spoiler tags to this video, this is pretty much the biggest secret in dwarf fortress and those of us who have not found it are going to be disappointing to see it in a youtube video.
you mentioned that your Dwarves becomes Wrestlers instead Hammerdwarfs and such
I think it's because you have them in the same squad as your wrestlers, which leads to that they, during sparring, will train with a wrestler, hence increasing their wrestling skill instead of the other skill
They arent in the same squads. I asked this on the forums i post the links to these on, and the problem is my other champions. Those are in the barracks fighting all day, fighting with the hammerdwarves until the hammerdwarves become champion wrestlers to.
Mine do the same. I think they're called wrestlers because they start off wrestlers (to build their stats). I change them afterwards, and although they use their new weapons, and do level in them, they remain "Wrestlers".
I think it's just a labelling problem. They stay labelled as their first trained skill.
In the beginning it was likethat for me,but since i had like 5 champion wrestlers already, they kept wrestling and wrestling and became champion wrestlers themselves.
Ah, fair enough. I just know that, despite having higher skills in, say, Marksdwarfship, than Wrestling, my dwarves continue to call themselves wrestlers right up until Championhood.
Oh i sould have mentioned this in the video, cage traps dont work against demons.
Quote from DFwiki on "demon":
Demons are immune to stone-fall traps, weapon traps, cage traps and will destroy your doors and floodgates. At least some of them are able to fly and survive under water and magma.
Wow, that's horrible man. I always have cage traps on the entrances from my large mines, I'll up the 10 to 30 after seeing this, and I'm gonna assign all my civilians crossbows and, god forbid this ever happens, I'll have a huge spam waiting.
tentacles demons. 0.o reminds me of innapropriate things.

shouldve put a balitsa battery up before you continued mining the adamantine, then unleashed hell down narrow tunnels at several deamons at once

Can't you just wall off your tunnel to the pit?

Spirits of fire will turn all water that even comes close to them into steam so thats a no-go.

the easiest way to get rid of fire elementals is to flood the place with water, 4 should be enough ...

Nope, won't work. Spirits of Fire are so freakin' hot, they instantly boil water up to 2 tiles away from them.
Side note: SoF adventurers can walk across the ocean using this technique.
