  • Love love love love love the song Daughter!

  • thanks for the upload as a freshman in highschool I found a bootleg of this in a record shop, but cant find the vhs

  • thankyou Pearl Jam

  • I really like how at 1:54 Dave hits the china splash, mutes it, and then goes back to the high hat in less than a second, all with one hand. Matt Cameron is great, but Dave brought more to the band. His drumming was key to Vs. and Vitalogy, not to mention he is really fun to watch play. It's a real shame he and PJ couldn't get past their differences.

  • This is a video of the rehearsal. The performance of 'Daughter' later that night for the show was on a coupletely different awesome level. They cut the American Pie part, and went into Hey Hey My My. Eight days previous, Cobain had killed himself, and had quoted 'Hey Hey' in his suicide letter. At the end of that performance, Vedder opened his shirt to display the letter K for Kurt. Also, the lead guitar part is better during the show performance. To bad it's not available on YouTube.

  • ladies & gentlemen, the Gods of the 90s

  • I feel like Dave was rushing the groove just a bit. Cameron keeps it more open loose and relaxed

  • @outer432 I think you can't really say it's just the drummer, the whole group played a bit differently than they do now.

  • it is true that it's better to fade out than burn away at least for the famous you can be just average and when you die suddenly everyone cares about you and finds you so more appealing it's sad but true

  • Dave A. was such a great drummer. Look at all the accents in his playing...shame he got canned.

  • Supposedly, Mike was 3 sheets to the wind, he doesn't even remember this. You can see it, but listening, you would never know.

  • A 3 personas deberian quemarlas en la hogera xD

  • This....is...amazing.

  • 1:55-2:12...jackpot

  • Mike looks good for being drunk as shit :P

  • I hope matt cameron will watch this and learn how daughter is playing

  • @sarpersonbay95 ....... Y U NO LIKE MATT CAMERON ?

  • @randellanddante no no i like even love him but n soundgarden or temple of the dog. But he isnt belong to pj i think. And somebody said before , 'matt cant do anything out of soundgarden but nobody can be better than matt n soundgarden. absolutely true i think

  • @sarpersonbay95: Matt does it pretty well. But they were assholes for firing Dave A.

  • shitty cameraman didnt even look at mike in his solo -.-

  • @youlovemercedes The cameraman doesn't decide. The director does.

  • it's ok don't show mike playing a single note of the solo.....

  • Sometimes I have sardines on toast for breakfast. It goes down well with a hot cup of milk.

  • @tl44753 Great tip, thank you!

  • I stopped listening after they got rid of Dave.

  • Its just completely evident how much Dave Abbruzzese's drumming had on the band. It MADE Pearl Jam the great band that they once were. Now they just sound like the Rolling stones and they're boring old c*nts just like them. Getting rid of Dave, whilst on a personal level may have harmonnised the band, but musically, it was detrimental IMO. Never been the same since.

  • @Scroteypoo Pearl Jam is still and will always be a great band ,No matter what changes they've gone through.

  • @Darthstew42 Thats the beauty of opinion mate; mine differs greatly from yours and I feel they have been lacking since firing Dave. Others like the band after Dave was fired. Each to their own but I stand by my opinion. Lets face it - Dave era was PJ's "peak" years. Persoanally I don't listen to anything after Vitalogy (as recogoction to Dave A and that i beleive their music has never been as good since) and it just so happens this song was on VS so its got Dave A all over it. Peace

  • Dave abruzesse the best drumer.... o melhor baterista do pearl jam!!

  • there is more than one camera normally this was just a rehearsal and they didnt cut or edit anything together. were lucky we got to see even this. thank you

  • Thank you for such music!

  • Comment removed

  • wow cool post!!!

  • Love this and how they ended it.

  • The camera is not on the lead guitarrist because it's a rehearsal as the title says ;)

  • @buzonperiodista Yeah that was a lousy rehearsal for Cam Crew 4 sure

  • mike mcready is blacked out here, he admitted it on the documentary twenty

  • Why the fuck is it rare..

  • it's nice to see jeff with a hand cramp because i get them when i play guitar and i used to attribute it to the fact that i might be a pussy. looks like even the pros get them WOOOOT!

  • Ya always love the improvs eddie bee doing I remember that first time too it came on and just like wow they just hit me hella deep i be just so tuned in

  • Que legal esse contra baixo... essa é a melhor música do Pearl Jam!!!

very nice this bass!!!this music is good!

  • These bands had a lot of influence on each other as well as the rest of the grunge world. I still love Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains , and Soundgarden the most of all. They are artists not like the puppets on MTV today.

  • I remember watching this live and how in awe we were at the eery ending of the song. Pearl jam has always been known to improv but you've gotta understand that it was shortly after cobains suicide and was an extremely touching and moving experience by Eddie. This was pearl jams best era in my opinion, ten was great and all but vitalogy and versus were just special albums. I still like their music today and them today however, it's just at that time there was so much emotion and turmoil going on.

  • @MegaGannicus- Thats why i rewatched this video, because of that comment right there.

  • Wait we played Daughter?

  • @MegaGannicus Huh? "We"? Who is this "we" you are talking about? And what do you mean, "Wait we played Daughter"??? I don't get it.....

  • @3TNT3 GO WATCH PJ 20

  • @randellanddante I would LOVE to watch it as soon as possible. However, I am very very busy for the foreseeable future, and it will be quite some time before I will have the opportunity to do so. So, would u please be so kind as to give me a short explanation Either that, or do u happen to know of a clip on YT that includes the part u r referring to, along with the approximate time that it takes place in the video? Any help is greatly appreciated. In the mean time, my curiosity is 'killing' me.

  • @3TNT3 Mike in his own words essentially 'blacked out' during this performance. He said in the film the doesn't remembering playing Daughter on SNL in 1994.

  • @asavietto Oh, okay, thank you--I appreciate it. : ) Funny stuff. Yeah, I guess it is understandable to get a little overwhelmed when you skyrocket to fame and the 'BIG' stage.

  • @asavietto That's not mike on the profile

  • @MegaGannicus LOL

  • @MegaGannicus 'we'?

  • Great job by McCready even though he was drunk and didn't remember playing the song.

  • Jeff Ament plays some wicked guitar solos...on the bass???

  • I HATED Dave Abbruzzese. I mean I just disliked his style of playing.

  • @badboybob1074 - your completely out of your mind … These songs were recorded with Dave Abbruzzese on drums and they won't ever sound the same with Matt Cameron playing them (Matt is an excellent drummer but they're not his Drum parts) Dave's style is phenomenal - he keeps time with just cymbal shots ie: Rearviewmirror ! Just Saying

  • @Danoli77 I am with you. Although I like the idea of Matt Cameron being in the band, and I have nothing but respect for his work with Soundgarden, I really dug Dave's drum parts on the early stuff. I don't know alot about drums, but yeah they were cymbal-heavy, and his style really stands out on these classics.

  • mcready messed up in this guys, he said it himself in the Pearl Jam Movie, "20"

  • Heeey hoo!!! Letsss Goo!! Heeeyy hooo!!!!

  • man i just love this song, its amazing!!!!perl jam is one of my favourite bands, actually, favourite along with pink floyd!

  • 3:56 Look at the left hand fingers on the guitar player! At first i thought it was a one of those circular loading/buffering symbols, but nope, hes just tearing it up(all while standing so nonchalantly).

  • the fact that the Eddie sings "Drove my Shevey to the levy but the Levy was dry singin" ....and doesn't finish his sentence and also sings "Hey, hey...my...my..." and also doesn't finish his sentence is a testament to who he knew Pearl Jam would become. Genius.

  • la canzone che mi ha fatto conoscere i Pearl Jam, ormai vent'anni fa

  • mike McCready say's he can't remember this because he was so drunk and he blacked out.pretty good considering.

  • so does mike not exist? no rehersal screen time on the solo?

  • i am listening.

  • the "hey hey, my my" in the end is a tribute to Kurt Cobain as this is from 8 days after his death and in his suicide letter there's a sentence that makes reference to neil young's song "hey hey, my my" as well ("it's better to burn out than to fade away").

    R.I.P Kurt Cobain.

  • @1990EAM

Kurt and Eddie hated each other, I doubt the "my my" was for Kurt, Eddie is famous for inserting Neil Young songs into their own.

  • @SBKinsella if you watch PJ20 (the movie about Pearl Jam) you'll see how they hated each other in the beginning but right before Kurt's death they were starting to get along well and even Eddie pays a few words of tribute to him in a concert (i think on the same day he was found dead) :)

  • @1990EAM

Hey didnt know about the PJ20 film, I rarely eneter record shops now and miss out on shitloads in the last 10 yrs, THANKS for mentioning that, found full doc on youtube and about to watch, cheers my fellow PJ brotha!

  • @SBKinsella: They made up at the MTV VMA's. And the "hate" was pretty one-sided, and mostly aimed at Jeff.

  • The best

  • PERFECT...

  • i wish dave was still with FPJ

  • I'M SO NOSTALGIC THAT I WANT TO EXPLODE !!!

PEARL JAM IN RIO DE JANEIRO ON NOVEMBER 6th AND I WON'T GO

    SO, BYE GUYS...

    SEE YOU IN HEAVEN

  • @fernando050789 Hey there dude, is everything Okay? Do you want to talk to somebody? I recognize in your words that something is wrong and I know that it's hard to ask for help, it doesn't mean you are less of a man or woman, which ever the case may be. I couldn't tell from your profile page, I'm guessing that you are in South America so I know nothing of the resources down there. I'm almost certain that they have a suicide hotline available for helping people out in your situation.

  • bye bye mis american pastellllll

  • Man, Eddie Vedder was so cool- still is!! Back when I was 19- 20 we would ROCK OUT to Peral Jam down in San Marcus, Tx!!!

  • I MISS DAVE.

  • cool. the actual snl live show had daughter lead into neil young's hey hey my my...rock & roll will never die. more to the picture than meets the eye..hey hey my my.........where i come from nothins given...yeah i resent nepatism....now i paint with terpentine...i give such good paradigm......hey hey my my

  • I wish dave was still with the guys too... vs , best pearl jam album... killer sequence.. go animal daughter PJ doesn't have the same punch as they used to have... it's sad

  • what is he saying at 3:30?

  • so fucking good. this is the good stuff. with actual talent

  • Dave's double strokes on the hats at the end .. Always incredible to listen to ..

  • Back when artists actually sang their songs instead of miming...

  • Man, that's old and bad ass!

  • grunge era

  • I love this song. But I don't know what kind of instrument Jeff is playing. :(

  • @W78516 Its an electric upright bass. Very badass and as a bassist I just gained even more respect for him.

  • @MrWiiPS360 Thanks for your answer. Cheers :) :)

  • Eddies hair was not rehearsing. That shit was Live!

  • @betogurmilan i think they have a lots of partys and joys in the 90s . drogas mal usadas. y noches sin sueño nights asleeps.

  • Comment removed

  • the guys a fuckin drummer...how much input do you actually think he had?

  • Hey, you below me there. Doing both at once is even trickier. Why don't you master that and come on back to offer us your pompous little opinion again. It might be respectable then.

  • Eddie looks like a hobo.. it is amazing!

  • This kicks ASS. Didn't need a rehearsal

  • O_O that was just awesome.

  • 0:38 Dave is best

  • fantastic song

  • i think the camera crew was drunk cause that guy was NOT playing a guitar solo lol

  • @TheVollertron It's the rehearsal. They are just checking sound and all camera views.

  • @redskeeter1 still kind of strange they focused on one guitar player during the solo. the wrong one

  • @TheVollertron The wrong one? Depends on your perspective. Mike's lead is sweet, of course, but it's stone's rhythm that makes this tune, imo. Check out eddie at 1.17. He appears to agree. :)

  • @TheVollertron that's why they call rehearsal...

  • @TheVollertron is true, he is ignore Mcgread.

  • @TheVollertron Mike gets no love in this video :(

  • @TheVollertron hey dude the camera was focused on stone the rhythm guitarist, Mike in the other side was playing the solo

  • wickedness ! hahahahahaha : )

  • the camera crew is the only one rehearsing

  • the best part part of this song is Dave Abruzzesse, it sounds different without him

  • love it

  • Dave call eddie and tell him most all PJ fans want you back!!!! how bout one more tour!!!???

  • I did a cover of Daughter on acoustic guitar. Check it out.

  • `no me jodass

  • one of d best in 90's

  • wow great video original pearl jam woo

  • i have never seen someone with more coordination than dave A.

  • the mother fucking camera guy virtually cut mike out of this performance

  • @EdVedGoSsArD I noticed that too! I hate it when they do that! Especially when they don't show the lead guitarist DURING THE GUITAR SOLO!

  • I love Pearl Jam, this guy can sing, and he sings with passion, unlike those posers we have now days that just hook a computer up to their mic and has their voices edited to perfection. thats gotta suck when all their fans beg for an acoustic album haha.

  • @guitars646 dude i dont their fans even know what an acoustic album is. thats even more sad

  • @guitars646 dude i dont think their fans even know what an acoustic album is. which is more sad

  • You have to watch the Alive SNL performance. best live performance by anyone ever!!! but you have to watch it on your tv and it has to be very loud!!!

  • I hear that eddi pay tribute in this song to kurt, singing my my hey hey but I think is in the original broadcast or something anyone knows if that’s truth?

  • @GeorgSimmel88 Yeah, he sings a little bit of hey hey my my at the end referencing Kurt's comment in the suicide note. The comment "its better to burn out than fade away." Also, at the end of the show, Vedder opens his jacket and has the letter K on his shirt (a reference to Kurt being in his heart).

  • sounds awesome!

  • Worst camera men, maybe when stone is shredding a solo you should point the camera at him?

  • @houkedonfonixs Actually the camera was on Stone when the solo is being played by Mike.

  • @houkedonfonixs wasn't that Matt shredding the solo? Stone's on rythym for this tune. It was a rehearsal, so you get what you got.

  • @drlepper72 There's no one named Matt in this video even. What are you talking about??? Pearl Jams current DRUMMER is named Matt, but obviously the drummer doesn't shred the solo, and this video is before he was in the band anyways.

  • worst camera men ever

  • Dave was by FAR the best drummer they ever had. Wish he was still with them. :/

  • Dave FTW. Best PJ drummer by FAR.

  • U better believe......

  • Ha poor Mike, he plays his solo and the camera focuses on Stone instead.

  • @scantpie seeing as it was a rehearsal, it seems like they only used one, maybe 2, camera guys, when snl is live, they use a few. that being said, I've never seen the actual tv performance, but I'm sure they got his solo.

  • I love the bass player around 1:56 shaking the cramp out his hand. I have to do the same thing playing the keys, but I'm an old guy!

  • Neil Young's "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)," includes the "it's better to burn out than to fade away" reference in Kurt's suicide note. I think that Eddie stay in one spot because this is Eddie’s Salute To Kurt Cobain

  • They weren't fighting so much at this point. This performance was 9 days after Kurt Cobain died, and they were all shaken up. It is the reason why they tag "Hey Hey My My (rock and roll will never die) and it is also why Eddie doesn't sing the lyrics "this will be the day that I die" at the end. It was a pretty intense time for them.

  • I have been a huge PJ fan from the begining, but i have to agree with the opinion that they made a mistake in firing DA.

  • Like it Eddie or not, D.A has been by far the best drummer Pearl Jam have ever had! His drumming was the correct sound for PJ! Matt Cameron is a great drummer, but his drumming wasn't the right for Pearl Jam! The feeling D.A brought to the beats were the proper ones!

  • The band was fighting so much here... Then they wrongly fired Dave :(

  • What guitar is Stone using..electric but sounds very accustic..anyone know?

  • @petefader it looks like a hamer. it probably has a peizo which is basically an acoustic pickup that makes your guitar sound like an acoustic and throughout the song he switched between his piezo and his other electric pickup

  • @petefader its done with the pedal he is using

  • i wish dave was still with PJ

  • @shanehf2006 I started playing the drums a few years before this was filmed. I can see why you could be into Dave Abruzzz whatever's playing.. but dont you think its all a bit jazzy? lots of little unnesessary faffing? To me he plays for himself and not the song. I been playing a long time and its kind of easyer to play all that fancy doodling over the top of a song than feel the song and lock into the whole piece.

  • @simontheseagul Absolutely not. He co wrote the sone musically and his groves fit it the best. Otherwise it sounds too plain and dull. Most drummer who listen to pearl jam believe he was the best drummer by far. Matt Cameron is sensational, maybe even a techinically better drummer than Abbruzzese, but Dave's groves fit the band better. Losing Dave was their undoing becuase after him, they went down hill, their best years and performances were with Dave hands down.

  • Anyone know what kind of bass that is?

  • Eddie Vedder is a fine, fine man.

  • @Hunter172 Yes.. very much so!

  • I love this music! *__*

  • they knew exactly how important they had become at maybe this exact moment? just a speculation i guess. awesome video either way!

  • Hey hey my my, neil young song, this was eddie tribute to Kurt Cobain, just 9 days later after cobain's death.

  • BELLISSIMA!!!!!

  • Are you kidding? I never stopped wearing my flannels and combat boots... I'm 31... Long live Grunge rock! The best music ever!

  • @BluesTheDark IM 16 BORN AND RAISED SEATTLE BOY I KNOW MY ROOTS! NOT JUSTIN STUPID ASS BIEBER

  • @BluesTheDark ya, i'm 31 myself..... but I stopped wearing flannel and combat boots back in 97'.... and that was oddly about the same time I started scoring some hot ass! LOL!!!!!

  • why hasn't Jeff aged? is he human?

  • i was walking around my house in my step dads work boots and my purple plaid shirt singing even flow! hahahaha im 16 by the way not 37

  • the clothes..i've only seen the plaid shirts come back .just witing on the combat boots!!!

  • @oneway727 Well those are back

  • dave's superior drumming is really obvious here!

  • Look it's Matt from Sound Garden on the drums lol.

  • @Smokie420ish hes still in the band and has been

  • @hockeycuber101 IK bud I was just messing around.

  • dave abbruzzese best drummer ever. thanks for posting this. this is my favorite performance from him

  • OMG...THANKS SO MUCH for posting this....Ive been looking for this song EVERYWHERE! do you know where I can get the MP3?

    thanks again, PJ forever!!
