  • Great work! thanks to Kitt Gamble for pointing me your way, too.

  • very cool!

  • When I first heard about YouTube being a forum for people to post their own stuff, I thought it would be full of long burps and Jackass videos. I guess those do exist, but, James, ...

    that was W-A-Y cool!!!

    Thanks for uploading it.

  • Very talented individual you are :D, made me buy a harmonica now!

  • first 1:53 was fucking brilliant. then it was nothing that special until 2:43 and that sounded like a prescribed brilliantly dosed piece of sound that start to set a mental scene for me i wish you would have contnued doing that sequence for awhile more

    -Michele

  • That is quite cool - thank you for the inspiration. Jacob.

  • Yo James - I'm so glad you put this on YouTube. Your live rendition of this piece was on of the highlights of the 2008 SPAH Convention in St. Louis.

  • Absolutely, MadCat...this has been one of my favourite videos by James (anyone in fact) since he first posted it. Briliant stuff!

I just love the subtle Norwegian Wood reference...Jimmy's a major talent, underappreciated, so I visit as often as I can :)

    Eliz.

(I'm still mad that my camera battery ran out before your blow-off performance at SPAH)

  • holy crap thats awsome

  • great vid I like it when the Hurmonoca falls out of your mouth into a reel.

  • Ahhh... The GRACEFUL Release of the Toss-Away Harp...

  • This is the vid that made me subscribe. Just amazing...

  • what keys are these in?

  • Kylels..click on 'see all posts' at the bottom of the page and you'll read Jimmy's response to that question...a low D, sp20...there's more info

  • ALBA GU BRATH

    T.P

  • Great playin!

  • Noregian wood.. are you kidding me... This is also amazing! 5*!

  • It's very rare to see someone as talented as you performing... well... anywhere! You should be immensely proud, well done! Great work! Bravo! Maith thú! Encore! lol ;D

  • Thanks. The "bagpipe" harmonica is a low D Hohner Special 20 diatonic harmonica on which I retuned several reeds to give me a drone effect.

    Cheers.

  • Can you tell me what reeds you droned and how much? Probably was 4 and 5, right?

  • No, man...I was droning on holes 1 and 2, blow and draw.

  • Did you make them a lower pitch?

    I want to try that...

  • Nice, what kind of harmonica is this? thanks

  • WOW!!!! Great!

  • Cool and awesome!

  • Thank you, everyone, for the extremely kind words!

    cheers,

    James

  • Hey Jim: This awesome and was so enjoyable to listen to. Much more relaxing than what my kids listen to, lol. I am so happy to finally see you on here and MS as well. Cograts and welcome!

  • Man, this is OUSTANDING.......very nice, thanks for sharing J.

  • WOW! was that all octave's or something else i've never heard of? Whatever it was it was beautiful. Brilliant.

  • beautiful. Jason talks about you a lot, now I know why. sounds amazing.

  • beautiful...

  • Unbeliavably brilliant!!!! This stuff is so moving so orginal! I don't know what to say about it other than this is what genius is made of...sorry for the mellow drama but do you know anyone that can play like this? ANYone?

  • Hi, Jason! Thanx for the link. Great thing! Drones and Norwegian wood and jig. I suppose Richard Hunter can do that. I can play drones too but not that thing by left corner of my mouth.

  • Unbelievable. That drone with the 2nd harp and his throat. unREAL..with finesse and quietness... If you don't look, you'd swear it was a far-off bagpipe playing in the distant moors of Scotland. Brings a lump to the throat, and some fond memories. He's so freaking talented, and unassuming to boot. Last night of SPAH he played in a mini-Jam into the wee hours with Cara Cooke, Rosco, George Brooks, Warren, Richard Smith..y'all should have been there. Brilliant.
