Nice observation on the first drill. where are you from?
This first drill is a great drill but these guy's need to do it correctly as if they were going straight down the hill in a closed body position during the actual game pitching movement, take that( hip) straight to the wall, to the target not the butt cheeks and the backside to the wall, to the target. get those body positions straightened up, centered and go.

this drill is forcing them to lead with there hips, one of the best thing a pitcher can do.

Tom taught me differently when I was in high school.
He never told us to point our butts out and lead with the pocket like shown in the first drill.
This causes you to close up, and leads the shoulder to "fly open" and decreases consisntecy of delivery.
