That is no rimshot, that is a rim click. Rim shot is when you hit snare and the rims on the same time. And not while you place the stick on the drum. Rimshots are often used in metal- no reggae. You mean Rimclick i suppose.

yah, ive been playing for three years and i had some lessons for a year, and i was taught that you are supposed to hit the bass on 1&3, and the snare on 2&4, (mabey its not the same for reggae)

you don't want to use any heads that will kill the resonance, so nothing above 1 ply heads, try the classic pinstripe coated weatherkings, i use a 2 ply head for the bottom heads to get a nice tight sound from the batter heads. peace.

pretty good man. another way that most bands do it is bass drum on 1 ah-3 when counting. 1 e and ah 2 e and ah ect. snare on 2 and far with a rimshot, cross-stick, or snare hit. then a shuffle beat groove on the hihats with a open sound on last beat of the measure if wanted.
