Effective, similar. But it isn't really Old School unless it's down from the lockdown. The 10th Planet half guard is based almost solely on the lockdown. Also, two hands on the leg provides a little less upper body control; the 10th planet technique is done with one overhook, one hand gripping the toes.
too many moves to end up in half gaurd eddie just grabs the foot unlocks his lock down and plows through the guy while pulling his foot to end up in side control.
the only thing you had right about this move for the way eddie teaches it was when you said you want under hooks , next time you go to teach something from the 10th planet system at least read the book first to make sure you get it right
For one, you did not even lock any kind of half guard. You didn't lock the traditional way or the way eddie does it. Two, the goal is to end up on top and passed his guard, not to just go into his half guard.
It's an interesting variation, but I like the old school sweep from lockdown because you have the option of the Electric Chair if the guy on top bases out and you can't grab a hold of his foot.
You may not want to use the lockdown, but if you do you don't have to wait on the guy to bring his knee in, you are in control of that. Also, when you come up with the sweep keep the bottom leg pinned and bring your leg around into side control. No sense in doing all that work to end up in someone's half guard. Just some tips.
Eddie does the old school with the lockdown. That's whats most important because it allows the guy on the bottom to control part of the guys base. Eddie explains it all in his DVD about why the lockdown is really important for his half guard game.
this is a sweep that eddie bravo learned from jean jacques machado, early in his jiujitsu training.HE REPEATLEY REFERS TO THIS SWEEP AS "OLD SCHHOL"IN HIS DVD "TWISTER".THERE ARE A COUPLE OF VARIATIONS OF THIS THIS SWEEP. THIS IS ONE OF THEM.NOT EXACT TO THE WAY EDDIE EXICUTES IT.
just a question. Once you get the second underhook for the old school. What if someone catches you in a darce choke? Do you let go of the underhook and abandon the old school?
protect ya neck. there are counters for someone trying to darce you when you go for old school, but it's kinda hard to explain them in words. i hope somebody puts up a video.
I would say that the Darce would be hard to get. The reason I say is this. If you have done this right, you will have whipped-up to your side and be down by his stomach with double underhooks around his midsection. Even when you go for his leg, you must keep the other underhook tight around his waist and your head tight against his torso. Don't get loose until you have pulled his leg and started the sweep, then release the lockdown and push your weight into him.
Nice. When I'm tired I always end up holding the opponent in halfguard. Nice sweep.

It's meant to be done with the lockdown so you can take your opponents balance away from them easier and get to that elbow.

There's no lockdown. That's your traditional style of doing that sweep.
