  • I'LL BET THE ACTOR WHO PLAYED THE THE GUY WITH THE MALLETS MUST'VE BEEN MOTHERF__KING TIRED !!!

  • CGI make movies better but not "great".

  • One of the best movies ever!

  • The other ships would be all like WTF!!!! Ramming speed in the middle of the ocean with no one around!?

  • 41 la haine décuple les forçes ! rame bien et tu vivras !

  • say it during sex and your girl starts orgasming right at the sound of you saying ramming speed

  • How many gears does this ship have?

  • 6 pussies don't like this... so far

  • so much hard work could you just imagine

  • Actually the trireme oarsmen werent slaves, they were well payed sailors. Why on earth would the romans use half starved, weak and inexperienced slaves to power their ships in crucial maritime encounters?

Shame on you Hollywood, still is a nice movie tho

  • I've always loved the dirty look Ben Hur gives him at the end of this scene :)))

  • And Oxford WINS the 46AD Boat Race!!!!!

  • We call it (Increased V1) Speed in the airline industry!

And we do it for lower and lower wages! We must like the whippings! :-)

    Captain Ross "Rusty" Aimer

  • ...Row Hard and Live...

  • fuckin epic

  • lets destroy our backs shall we?

  • Great workout. Our local gym needs this guy.

Press ups, bench press, ramming speed!

  • 1:56 you are the weak link goodbye

  • Now this was some tough going back then. The constant, pure labor aspect, the smell, the whips,......to say those guys had "rough day at work",would definitely be a major understatement.

  • Light speed!!

I would love to hear the hortator's beat for that.

  • hahahaha, why all of you people likes this scene!!??? hahahaha

  • ramming within 6th gear...

  • Is that Newt Gingrich I see in there?

  • homo erotic commie infiltration!!!!

  • insteadof ramming speed, my wife now says, Aren't you done yet?

  • 1:50 "wtf?!"

  • 1800-Stroke-Dat-HOE!

  • Masterfully edited sequence. William Wyler, the director, was notorious for requiring endless takes- until he felt a scene was just right. When actors asked him what he'd like done differently, he'd frustratingly respond along the lines of "I don't know. Just do it again." I hope that's not how the shoot for this scene played out.

  • @Delriversit really? haha

  • Excuse me! I have a bit of a pain in my lower back. I wonder if I might be allowed a short break. . . maybe go to the bathroom, have a drink of water & stretch a bit?

  • Una de las mejores escenas de prueba de fuerza del hombre... dichosos mis ojos :D

    jaja

  • ...Jack Hawkins is brilliant in this ...camping it up...ramming speed ...lol

  • Either I'm crazy, but I always found something really sexy about this scene. One of my favorite classic movies

  • @PlotsnTom you are not crazy, the "ramming speed" scene has been one of the most famous (or notorious) gay scenes in the history of movies, under cover of course, we are only in the late fifties - see the "celluloid closet" for more reference!

  • Is that hammer guy Will Ferrel? ( 0:31 )

  • @Macihnima

Ben Hur was made in 1959 and Will Ferrell was born in 1967,lol, looks like him though.

  • Hyperspeed Hortator.

HYPERSPEEDDD!!! dum! dum! dum! dum! dum!

  • Comment removed

  • instead of fat camp they should just send fat kids out on a voyage across the Mediterranean at ramming speed or something.

  • The guy who,s doing the drums thing is the double of Heston .

  • It sounds like he says, "Battle Speed, Lord Vadar."

  • lol @ 2:53. The guy yells, "oww!" That's something you say when you stub your toe, not when pure leather rawhide is ripping your flesh open!!

  • @PGWARNER That's so funny! I heard one of my kung fu students say "oww!" once when he was sparring. I wouldn't mind but he was a big man! Had to pull him up on that one.

  • At one point I was actually waiting to hear "warpspeed!" :P

  • Now lets try Ludicrous Speed!!!

  • these are the actors they got to play the body shots for the spartans in 300. Nothing tones those abs like a good days hard slave labour at the oars.

  • When i was a kid i used to row and my younger brother was the hortator :)). Battle speed!!! Great movie scene!!!

  • typical officer hidding behind his or her rank.

  • Ludicrous speed hortator.

  • I have some good news and bad news.

The good news is, you may all take a break for today.

The bad news is, tomorrow, Caesar wants to go water skiing.

  • LMAAAOOOOOO! @ the men's comments when they get whipped

  • "If they were ruled by love and not the whip - for such a man they would outrace the wind !" So said sheik Ildren of his chariot horses.

  • I wonder how the hortator managed to sit there all the day, banging that drum without rest. He must have ached all over by the time his shift ended.

  • i like to play this video when im boning my girlfriend and go to the speed of it

  • modern movies have no idea how to write in dramatic scenes like this and then pace it just right.

  • Comment removed

  • @jegspillerpiano

another dude from the peanut gallery who fancies himself a snob...

unless you've viewed all "modern movies", whatever that is, your claim is nothing more than pretentious crowing.

You actually gonna say that the in the best 300 movies of the last decade there are no great drama scenes with impeccable timing and placement?

    Yeah, right.

  • Good thing old Arrius wasn't in the mood to water ski..

  • you should allow embed buddy....

  • Wow! How many of us live this experience every day...thanks Capitalism.

  • CHUCK RULES

  • rimming speed!

  • Ahhh, Raming Speed. This reminds me of the time in Star Trek- First Contact when Worf was the only Starfleet officer to ever find the Ramming speed button.

  • Who says we lack stamina....

  • Who says we Jews lack stamina....

  • Where was Bob Crowe and his down tools out brothers out cronies?

  • The one who dislikes this scene should be put to the oars!

  • Willy Wonka: There's no earthly way of knowing / Which direction we are going / There's no knowing where we're rowing / Or which way the river's flowing / Is it raining? / Is it snowing? / Is a hurricane a-blowing? / Not a speck of light is showing / So the danger must be growing / Are the fires of hell a-glowing? / Is the grisly reaper mowing? / Yes, the danger must be growing / 'Cause the rowers keep on rowing / And they're certainly not showing / Any signs that they are slowing!

Chained to the floor Shackled to the oar

Chained to the floor Stained to the core

Chained to the floor Life's nothing more

    \m/

  • Bullshit speed!

  • It always sounds like he's saying, 'Battle Speed, Lord Tater"

Lord Tater, king of the drums and the potatoes.

  • "Just trying to catch up to my girlfriend's ship"

  • sugoi

  • It's always been an Easter tradition in my family that we watch this film after our relatives leave!

  • Cagavam e peidavam mijavam ai mesmo.

  • One of the most brilliant scenes in the history of cinema

  • @lucius You are correct. Thanks for your comment. What I expressed was the fact that the physical exhaustion brought upon those rowing in that movie scene, was enough to provoke a cardiac arrest. Not because of the workout, but because of the heat conditions, etc, there represented.

  • THIS IS GREATNESS

  • The Romans idea of cardiovascular workout is kind of exagerated. Surprisingly, none of those poor souls had a massive coronary infarction......Still a great scene from an epic movie.

  • @billace90

If you believed that in ancient roman history they used slaves on their galleys, think again. They did not. That practice was used during the middle ages.

  • @lucius1976 Absence of evidence IS NOT EVIDENCE OF ABSCENCE!

  • @lucius1976 srsly, this was supposedly set during the life of Jesus which was at least 500 yrs before the middle ages(considered 500-1400AD by most). They most certainly did have slave oarsmen just as they had slave gladiators at the time. Back then, if your spindly ass couldn't row, you were whipped then tossed overboard for the sharks toe eat.

  • @IndyBearFan88

No, they were no slave oarsmen in the roman navy. Mabye a few exceptions, but all historic evidence suggests that roman oarsmen in its navy were freedmen that could became roman citizens after their service

  • @lucius1976 Only in the days of the republic they were volunteers. In Imperial times they gradually shifted to slave-rowed galleys.

  • @lucius1976 The oarsmen of the Roman navy were indeed chiefly comprised of 'libertini' (freedmen) or 'peregrini' (freeborn provincials), who were in many cases (and certainly in the case as portrayed in the movie) only nominally better off than slaves.

  • i think the best scene!!!!

  • In the book, Ben Hur asks to be switched so he would be equally strong on both sides. They allow him this.

  • Don't try to arm wrestle the guy with the hammers.

  • Just as well he didn't want to go water skiing

  • The moral of the story is: It's better to be the boss.
