Wow, you people really complain about everything. Who gives a crap if a military convoy is driving through a town. Who gives a crap if they have sidearms. Geez, you people have a ton of time on your hands.
Out of curousity.. how do you know they armed? All HMMWVs I saw didn't appear to have turrets with weapons mounted, nor was I able to see inside the vehicles.
Look into things before you try to blindly throw your agenda onto the public. There is an army reserve center down the street from where you filmed this. They are on a weekend dril, as they are the national guard. Yes they do carry weapons, however note the weapons are unloaded and there is no amunition. That is what they were doing there....passing through to thier training location.

@weglinsa these people do not want to look for truth. they are afraid of their own shadows so everything outside their bedroom is a threat to them. talk about paranoia
Americans are rightly nervous about military occupation since the repeal of the Posse Commitatus Act is still very new. One wonders how armed soldiers are going to go about providing civilian relief. They aren't exactly medical support staff. The relief they provide is to supplement law enforcement, and hence carry the connotation of martial law.
You people are nuts. There's no conspiracy. If a unit's base is at point A, and they are going to train at point B, the most advantageous method of travel is by their tactical vehicles! One repsonsibility of a member of the military is to protect federal property. Most likely anyone with rifles were not carrying ammo, the carriers of pistols had one loaded mag. For the people that are screaming unfair, last time I checked any person with a firearm license can pick up a Beretta 92FS or an AR15.
Seriously, this is just silly. A bunch of paranoid loons hyping themselves up into believing they are "activists" living in a "police state"
I know New Hampshire can be dull at times, but geesh, find a new hobby, people
I pity the cops in your towns. They must get so annoyed dealing with your silly "civil disobedience" nonsense every time they give you a speeding ticket or ask for your ID
I hope they do get annoyed, maybe eventually they'll get annoyed enough to stop giving out speeding tickets or ask for I.D., or at least get annoyed enough to do those things less often.
Oh yes, because NH would be soooooo much safer if police stopped doing their jobs.
Next time someone you love needs help and calls 911, I hope the police aren't too busy putting up with one of your stupid "constitutional rights" games.
There are SERIOUS problems in the world and SERIOUS cases of rights-violations, but you people act as if the army is "occupying" Keene whenever they stop by to get COFFEE
God forbid cops stop enforcing unnecessary and stupid laws. NH would be soooo much less safe if cops stopped arresting pot smokers and people driving 1 mph over the speed limit.
Next time someone I love calls 911, I hope the police aren't too busy enforcing some silly or bad law that shouldn't exist.
It would be silly if anyone was claiming the army was occupying Keene, but all anyone is saying is that the armies presence makes them uncomfortable.
JoelMatton "It would be silly if anyone was claiming the army was occupying Keene, but all anyone is saying is that the armies presence makes them uncomfortable."
Listen to the video, moron.
The guy is reporting "the army's presence" in Keene as if he are watching a warlord's gang drive around in Darfur. Ooooooh, "they're all packing sidearms"... "it's kind of scary"
Why the hell would soldiers BUYING COFFEE make you uncomfortable? You'd have to be on the far side of paranoid delusional
The Army IS a warlord's gang, that's the point. I can't speak for the narrator in the video, but the army's presence makes me uncomfortable in the exact same way that the mafia's presence or biker gang's presence makes me uncomfortable. When I see 30 Hells Angels bikers driving down the street packing guns, that makes me uncomfortable, too. There's nothing paranoid about being uncomfortable around violent thugs who are known to kill people.
I know Keene must be boring sometimes, but if you're honestly comparing US soldiers to Hells Angels or Somalian warlords, you have some serious mental issues
Seek counseling & learn how to live on this planet without fear & without your head up your ass
Next time there's a natural disaster & those soldiers come by to rescue your sorry ass, remember to tell them "no thanks, I don't feel comfortable around violent thugs"
seriously, I'm 100% in favor of liberty, freedom, etc..
But there has to be a more PRODUCTIVE way to ensure those things without annoying cops at every traffic stop and "reporting" on "troop movements" as if you're in Somalia.
You people have way too much time on your hands and not enough appreciation for the people who WORK to ensure those freedoms you claim to protect with your silly games.
Just because you have the freedom to act like juvenile pains-in-the-ass, doesn't mean you should
Instead of being retarded with videos like this, why don't you join the government to make a change? I love people like you. Listen, reality check for you. A LAW IS A LAW no matter how big or how small. If you break one, prepare to face the consequences. You can't pick to obey one law and break another, to do that would be elitist. I'll do you all a favor and next time the Marines do training, we'll drive right through Keene with M9's, M16's, 50 cal's and 240's mounted on all the vehicles.
If you're referring to running for office, there are "people like me" in the NH house of representatives, I believe about 6 of them, trying to get laws changed. There are tons more sending emails to representatives and senators, doing grassroots "lobbying". So some of us ARE joining.
And anyone with the ability to think independently and critically is capable of realizing that some laws are bad. If my breaking a law does not negatively affect anyone else, I see no point in following that law.
They were the National guard members stationed out of the Hastings Avenue armory. They were providing relief and support to local communities during the ice storm. Patroling areas that people had evacuated, traffic control, and distrubution of drinking water. They maintain there "side" arms as per protocol. The local "goverment people" as your type refer to them, were overwhelmed, and a majority of citizens were requesting help.
The music from MarkandDenise was a nice addition to the video.
Military units conduct exercises and manuvers in the U.S. and overseas. It is common for military personnel to be issued their weapons during exercises. Without knowing the purpose or mission of the convoy, it's difficult to speculate about what the convoy was doing or why they were doing it.
I think we need more facts before making judgements.
Hi Dave, love the commercial at the beginning of the globe. Thanks for using our music . . . gives it a good edge. Interesting, just heard a cable headline on global regulations (aargh).
A scary situation..lol! Typical keene thinking.. OMG an outsider, lets be paranoid and suspicious... why are they carrying firearms? Please tell me thats not a serious question
Supposedly, the Posse Comitatus Act is still in full force since passage of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008, and they should not be participating in any police actions on our soil.
Just what kind of firearms are they being issued for a casual, non-law-enforcing, drive around town?
How about a compromise: While within the various States, they may carry the same weapons we, as civilians, are allowed to. They may wear the same body armor we are allowed to.
How many of the people watching these videos know that the U.S. freeway system can be closed down and restricted to military use only, if Congress so deems it, or during a national disaster?
WIkipedia: "...The Dwight D. Eisenhower National System of Interstate and Defense Highways, commonly called the Interstate Highway System (or simply, the Interstate System), is a network of limited-access highways (also called freeways or expressways) in the United States that is named for President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who championed its creation..." And my question is: What's your point?
Attack of the Humvees! Perhaps it's just another violation of the Posse Comitatus Act? But since they weren't actually observed doing anything except driving, then probably not. Is there a military base anywhere nearby?
the appropriate thing to do when it appears that the military is "coming to town" is to call the local "authorities"(I know, I know) and ask if there is an NBC(nuclear/biological/chemical) Martial Law Emergency or other situation that requires military presence.

Rights of troops is a different issue. They are agents of the military and have a different set of rules under the UCMJ and are not able to use the US Constitution for protection as we are. For example, they dont have a right to speech, to gather ect?
Interesting argument. I tend to side with Dave on this one. I've no real problem with soldiers, just their masters. Why blame the weapon for the hand on the trigger?

Armor, personal armor, and crew served weapons would indicate a stronger presence or reason than a few humvees driving around.
A better question is are they officers, enlisted, National Guard or a different branch of the military.
I'm pro-personal rights, but a humvee driving through town doesn't infringe on anything more than an office building.
Naturally, there are exceptions. Was there any kind of violent incident recently? Would there be a tactical purpose for them there?
