  • Good grief, what on earth does it matter where the Lord Buddha was born? If we can't learn and gain something from the philosophy He taught, what's the point in raising a ruckus over the place of His birth?

  • Buddha is not the founder of buddhism but an expouder of the universal law. The law that long exist but forgotten by many of the sentient beings through aeons of rebirth. Nirvana is the state to achieve to return to from our fallen state. Buddha came back to remind us of our long ago existance and is asking us to return

  • @athen22 Yes. Thank you.

  • There are gods in buddhism. There are just many realms. We are living in the three fold world system. there are many gods who have vouched to be a protector of buddhism and protect believers.

  • This whit Elephant Omg!

  • The Buddha who is the founder of the Buddhist religion is called Buddha Shakyamuni “Shakya” is the name of the royal family into which he was born, and “Muni” means “Able One.” Buddha Skakyamuni was born as a royal prince in 624 BC in a place called Lumbini, which was originally in northern India but is now part of Nepal. His mother’s name was Queen Mayadevi and his father’s name was King Shuddhodana.

  • @madrasjon brother.. India was not even there 2500 years ago.. there were many kingdoms everywhere.. Buddha was born in Nepal.. the main thing is at that time it used to be called 'BHARAT BARSHA' like its called ASIA... there are many countries is ASIA which used to come under BHARAT BARSHA.. all the countries in South Asia came under it..

  • What is the song thats playing! at 0:59 PLeeeaaaaassseee if someone knows tell meeee :) it's awesome.

  • buddha was an indian hindu kshatriya prince,he belonged to ancient india tht area may today be nepal but the buddha was an indian hindu philosopher and a prince

  • beautiful aside from that if i was that women and i was giving birt i would have screamed like a fuckin banshee

  • what is the name of this movie?

  • @papaafternoon "Little Buddha" . By Bernardo Bertolucci.

  • buddha might come from current day nepal ..but he was indian. jsut as u see alot of indians in nepal today....he was indian royalty....

  • ermm guys.. rahter than arguing about where he was born, spend ur time on studying what he taught... doesnt matter what religion u belong to, his teachings can be followed by any human with out affecting their beliefs...

  • Many people in the world consider Siddhartha Gautama as the greatest Guru in the world. Siddhartha Gautama before he became Buddha or the enlightened one was born in about 563 BCE in Lumbini, Nepal. He was born into King Suddhodana Gautama and his queen Mayadevi, rulers of the Shakya tribe of Kapilavastu region near Lumbini.

During the rule of 7th Kirat King Jitedasti, Lord Gautama Buddha with his disciples came to the Kathmandu valley, Nepal to preach dharma.

Care to know more, mail me.

  • beautiful movie

  • Where were Pakistan and Blangladesh 2500 years ago? Ask the Historian.

  • i guess it was still there cause it was india back then...nothing differet...

  • look at all u arguing about where he was born.. was it lumbini, was it india, nepal... come off your high horses and dont be so closed minded.

and to get around arguing semantics of names, use lines of longitude and latitude such as 27°45'N, 85°20'E and give a margin of error for those who will bitch and moan about tectonic shifting or whatever.

everyone thinks they're right and everyone else has got it wrong.

  • behave :)

  • it is not important to know the exact place of the Buddha's birth. What is important is the Dharma which he taught so that we could all achieve Nirvana. Clinging onto knowing where he was born is an obstacle on the path for Nirvana. Let us instead focus on the 4 Noble Truths and the Glorious 8 Fold Path so we may leave the Saṃsāra and put an end to Dukkha

  • I think it was karma not dharma.

  • Not only Buddhists know that Buddha was born in India, people of all other religions know that Buddha was born in India.

It make people detest people who try to twist the fact and make such false claim.

  • what his name this movie please?

    thanks

  • It's no point you tell me this. All the monks and nun from all over the world are saying that Buddha was born in India. All the history books all over the world are saying Buddha is born in India. I grew up knowing that Buddha was born in India.

Unless you can change the history facts, you will not sound credible.

  • Buddha was born in Kapilvastu of Lumbini now current Nepal. At the time of his birth there was no Nepa or india. The place is on the border of india and nepal so often it is mistaken for india. No one is changing facts here. Where ever he was born doesn't matter what he did matters the most. Buddham saranam gachyami ..tri ratnam saranam

  • Was Nepal part of India 2,500 years ago?

  • There wasn't even an India 2500 years ago. India has never been united the way it has been since the British Raj. If people really want to get nitpicky, he was born in a Kingdom that no longer exists. a lot of people say he was born in nepal and part of the kingdom he was born in was part in nepal part in current day India.

  • Galadraal: what was the name of the kingdom ruled by Ashoka? Wikipedia says it was an "indian kingdom", which obviously sounds ethnic, not nationalistic.

  • The term for the land is Bharat. India is a modern construct named after the Indus Valley. The name of Ashoka's kingdom, which came after Shakyamuni (much after) was the Mauryan kingdom. And Ashoka never conquered the entire subcontinent. Calling the subcontinent India is a general term, but an inprecise one now since the nation has taken that term. You wouldn't call Burma or Pakistan 'India' anymore would you? And yet when the British Raj existed, Burma was part of 'British India'

  • I think your point is a mute one since the use of the term 'India' to denote the entire subcontinent is an imprecise term now. But I don't know you or know anything about you so I cannot assume that you are a scholar or critical thinker. But, arguing a point as ridiculous as the term of the place where Buddha was born where the location lies within the borders of the state of Nepal right now is somewhat misguided. You can say 'He was born in the northern Indian subcontinent' which is correct.

  • Galadraal: I certainly consider myself a critical thinker, and am racking my brain to see what I may have said to imply otherwise. As best I can tell I'm asking questions, not making bold proclamations.

For whatever it's worth, referencing Buddha's birthplace by what-it's-called-today seems as good a reference point for the modern viewer as any. Clearly it was birthed out of Hinduism, and Hinduism is now linked with India. Indians were running that neck of the woods at that time.

  • @Galadraal ARE U RETARTED...IT IS NOWHERE NERE INDIA..THE PALACE IS STILL IN NEPAL...AND U CAN COME VISIT IT...

  • errrr, excuse me? You are telling me that the current states of India and Nepal existed at that time with the same names and same political distinctiveness attached as now?

  • galadraal: I'm saying telling a person "Buddha was born in what is now Nepal" brings a marginally useful reference to the modern reader. I say marginally b/c too many people don't even know CURRENT geography, much less ancient.

  • are you telling me that it was india back then???cause i believe that there was no country called india at that time nor nepal..but today it is nepal..it was united as nepal..it was never a land of india..never..even the britishers who united india didnt capture nepal or lumbini..

  • @mowriter NO..NEVER WAS AND NEVER WILL BE...

  • mowriter Nepal was never part of India even in 2500 years ago.

In those time Nepal was known as ""kirat desh" or land of kirat.

The term Nepal came to exist only from 4th BCE believed to gave derive from Nepa.

Kiratas--Mongloid in race first appear in the Yajur Veda (Shukla XXX.16; Krisha III.4,12,1), and in the Atharva Veda (X.4,14).

    Hope this helps.

  • Unless you can change the history. It is all written in the history books all over the world that Buddha was born in India.

  • Gautama Buddha was born in an area now governed by the state of Nepal. India (and Nepal) did not exist 2550 years ago.

  • u believe in books and not the fact..come to lumbini.NEPAL.then you will believe

  • Buddha was born 2633 years ago in ancient India ( present day Nepal.) The queen was resting at Lumbini Park when the birth of Siddhartha took place.

  • it was not india........at those time it was all different countries and states of there own..! so it would be pertinent not to quote india or Nepal...And let me remind, any part of india was never taken by Nepal historically, it was india who took some but lumbini has be geographically place in Nepal. lets try and live with the very fact!!!

  • I dont think you can sing while you are about to give birth

  • Can you believe later that the Lord Buddha was incorporated into Vedic religion by the Aryan.

They claimed Buddha as the 9th incarnation of Lord Bishnu. what a pile of garbage!!

  • where can you get this movie

  • The movie is called " Little Buddha", you can just rent it. It's played by Keanu Reeves.

  • baby's cute

  • Capon, I don't think you get it. Buddhists don't worship the Buddha. It doesn't even matter if he existed or not. What is important is the philosophy we call Buddhism. Many Buddhists, such as myself, are atheists. There is no god in Buddhism.

  • TOTALLY agreed! Oh yeah, where can I find the rest of the movie?

  • @Lojikbom Thank you for telling it.Some stupids dudes alway think that all beleiving matter is Religion to the image of their own !! There is no God in buddism,Just philosophie !

  • That is patently false. The very story of Buddha involves being blessed by gods, teaching gods, and being tempted by the Devil King himself. Brahma and Indra are the Buddha's attendants.

You are speaking only of Buddhist psychology which states God is an emanation of the mind, but Buddha NEVER said there was no God. Please name such a sutra, I doubt you can. Please do not spread falsihood. While we do not worship the Buddha, we do take refuge in the Buddha as one of the "three jewels.

  • I think! it's does not matter what buddha said if he's a god or not a god....What is the most important the valued of Buddha is teaching and to accept truths of life....

  • wher can i get this whole movies and what is the title of the movie 425 251 0863 thanks

  • some part of india used to be part of nepal, like darjeeling and sikkim. ya buddha was born in nepal

  • Nepal was formed as a unified state in 1768. In Buddha's time, the area comprised of a bunch of small kingdoms. Buddha himself belonged to the Shakya tribe. A unified India came around 326 BC when Chandragupta Maurya drove Macedonians out and united the smaller kingdoms, ruling from present day Afghanistan to the Bay of Bengal, and stretching down to the Deccan plateau in the south. So Buddha's neither Indian nor Nepali, just belongs to that part of the world.

  • the comment was not on buddha's nationality, it is about his birth place, and in present, birth place of buddha is in nepal. that's what we said. if so then deny the fact that mahabharat didn't happen in india, ram wasn't born in india krishna was not born in india. but you can't

  • Ram and Krishna are merely fictional characters and the Mahabharata and Ramayana storytelling at its best. There's no conclusive evidence to whether they really happened or if the people even existed. I wouldn't be a fool to cite mythological stories as relevant examples. And the Buddha part, I clearly mentioned what his birth place is. You can't say it's Nepal because of present geographical distinctions. Going by your logic, the Indus valley civilization should be Pakistani!

  • Aryan entered India around 1000 BC. Before that Kiratas was already living in India. Kiratas entered India around 2400BC from Assyria. Kiratas are non-aryan and were Mongoloid people.

When Aryan entered India, the Aryan had to fight Kiratas whose king was Shambara.

The Kiratas and Shambara are mentioned as demon in the Veda because they fought Aryan invasion. In those times the Aryans refer the Himalayays belt as KirataDesh or land of Kiratas.

  • This clip is from Bernardo Bertolucci's visually stunning and poetic movie "Little Buddha". The little boy is found to be the reincarnation of an important Lama. Buddha's story is revealed throughout the movie as taught to him.

  • prime creator is a female energy

  • Were this clip from?

  • Thank you for upload this movie. Please upload the rest of the Buddha story plzzzz.

  • Nepal is only pure Hindu nation in the present day world, that claims secular. Lord Buddha born 2500 years ago , then the political geographical distinctions of the present day did not exist.India/ Bharat, vast area land between plains west of Sindh river and River Ganga and Himalayas in north and Indian ocean in south. This was home of many small independent kingdoms. SO CONTEMPORARY POLITICAL GEOGRAPHY AS INDIAN REPUBLIC AND NATION OF NEPAL HAS NO RELEVANCE AND MEANINGLESS in this context.

  • himalayas

  • Buddha wasn't preaching atheism. God is not necessary for Enlightment, it's just that.

  • Semite god never existed. It is the worst practical joke ever given to a lazy mankind. There is only the AllFather. He doesn't need a son or a mother. Only humans have sons and mothers.

  • You can never claim to have a working knowlege of appropriate English can you--Mother Fucker?

  • Sorry Erik, but Jesus is dead ... and ska sucks.

  • So you agree, they're both dead. I never said the Buddha wasn't.

  • budha was born in india.nd well nepal was in india too.its just liberated from india b4 3-4 decades.u gotta read indian history in wich himalayas have bin included in india many times.

  • This is beautiful, thanks for posting:)

  • this video it has said that buddha was born in nepal...in another same movie video it has said that buddha was born in india...????but i think buddha was born in kapilvastu..small village of lumbini in nepal....check out the "powerofthedevine"little buddha part 2...i am so confused????

  • That may be due to changing geography. This video says that Buddha was born in "ANCIENT Nepal". However, India wasn't united until a few centuries later under Asoka. India under the British comprised India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Personally, I don't think where the Buddha was born is as important as the message of the Buddha.

  • Nepal,it was,Namaste.

  • @minnimusa He was born in Nepal. Well, at least, that's what I learned in history. You can look it up, too. :)

  • thanks for saying the TRUTH that Lord Buddha was born in NEPAL. Because in many texts and books written earlier, it has been said that the Lord Buddha is born in India.

Therefore many people are led to wrong judgment.

But now the research has shown that indeed he was born in Lumbini, a small town in south Nepal.

  • KIPILAVASTU is his birthcity.

  • The woman sleeps with a baby elephant (pedophila anyone?), gives birth while hanging from a tree branch... Why do religion have to exaggerate the moments? Much respect for Buddha's teaching though; I think this whole presentiments are disrespectful to him.

  • U misunderstand, she dreamt seeing a baby elephant come and dance with her, not to sleep with her. The tree branch was bending down for her to hold on, not to Hanging On to, to while she giving birth to Buddha. The tree branch helps to support her to Push the baby out.

  • "she dreamt..."

I bet Marry also did dream about being impregnated by "God."

"tree branch was bending down for her to hold on, not to Hanging On to..."

Same difference. My point is all these "stories" are unrealistic and strategically concocted to recruit more followers. If you want to seek the truth, you must shed away these superficial sensationalized jargon.

  • ariakokoschka, you are right to say such a thing is illogical in our logical sense. But that is the actual 'signs' that when all Buddhas were born or to be born. In that story, it's the true account of how Buddha were borned! Yes, Queen Maya is standing while giving birth, and the trees are bending & this is not unusual as compare to some stories that other Buddhas came out from their mother's armpit!

  • Well, I know the story, I was just merely indicating such fable is irrational in natural sense. I also understand that mythology was a prominent tool in spreading teaching and dogma in old times -- whether it was Judaism, Persian-based religions, or Syriac ones. To me, it takes away the legitimacy of the individual; I am sure it does make a great story for kids or people who do not possess a broader intellect to digest the concepts.

  • I understand what you mean. What is more important is practice what Buddha has taught us! :)

  • Exactly my point. I don't wish people to be side tracked by the mythical stories but rather focus solely on his teachings which I believe he has an ample to offer.

  • But the producer of the movie can't deviate from the tradition in this case. And it's left for the viewer judgement whether to accept this part or not. No matter what, I believed the story, since monks do not tell lies!

  • It was adequately put: it is a story. A story can be fabricated, fictional or carries some merit in reality. Hence the monks' assertion cannot be entirely hold to the same standards of journalism in which the news must adhere to veracity of actual event took place.

  • aria, you should know that all Sutras, Teachings and stories of Buddha are being verified by 500 Arhats after Buddha return to Nirvana. And according to history account, if anyone of the Arhat raise a question on the Sutras or Teachings, the Sutras or Teachings will be rejected straight away, no debate! That is a very strict assessment by any standard.

  • I am not questioning his "teaching" and once again, you used the word "story" which pretty much answers my concern. Story that does not adhere to realm of nature is not considered rational, i.e. a tree with the conscious and awareness to other organisms. There is no way you can measure its veracity because the nature just doesn't operate as such. It's a "story," a fictional one to entice the reader to lend itself as a psychologically satisfying read.

  • Hahaha..nevermind..let just enjoy the movie...no one will able to justify miracles with our human logics...and miracles are somehow always questionable although it happens. Our logic always question it and not accepting it blindly, and that is what Buddha always reminds His disciples. No one will know about the real account, unless we can travel back to 2500 years ago! :)

  • You sound like monolithic followers. Just because you cannot explain something, you resort to stamping it with a label of "miracle." You don't need to travel in time to confirm whether an event occurred or not when the allegation is bound only in the bubble of metaphysic.

  • I admire Buddha's ample amount of wisdom he shared with the world and his aphorisms are engulfed with enlightenment. But that does not free us from making up stories to elevate his stature -- I consider that an utter disrespect.

  • Haha....you just misunderstand what I mean. Nevermind...one day you will understand it...hahaha...

  • Please, do clarify your point of view.

  • Does anyone have a full version of this movie?

  • whoever played maya is kinda hot.

  • I dont remember singing when I gave birth! And, if the kid could walk at birth, then I have no doubt she wouldnt have been singing.

  • It is said that when Siddharta was born, he walked 7 steps, but is only a legend, don't take it seriously O.o

  • I'm wondering, suppose if he could actually walk, then what happened to the child that she had actually given birth to?

  • who said he was born in india. Go and read history again.

  • budda wasn't born in nepal! he was born in north india!

  • rover98 why don't you do some research before opening your mouth.

Lord Buddha was born in Nepal and he got enlightenment in Nepal too.

  • It's "Little Buddha", directed by Bernado Bertolucci. Keanu Reeves (from Speed, The Matrix) played the role of Prince Siddartha & the Buddha.

  • what movie is this?
