To 519 eh folks I feel ya I grew up in the bay and listenin to these cats but just the other day my fiances two boys was tryin to talk about wat I listened to they come tryin to tell me Drake and little wayne is tight......MAN they done lost they minds! And who the hell is Walle?
@Arsinek1 I could hate, but its your opinion so I wont. I wont even question why u felt it was relevant 2 say that rather than just give Cas props 4 a classic. I mean, don't u think bringing up another artist sort of takes away from the greatness of the artist in front of us if everyone's constantly comparing them? Just sum food 4 thought.
its sad if you ask anyone nowadays is they know CAS or the souls or alkoholics there like whoo? yo you should peep this new weezy track like fuckoff nigga i dont wanna hear that wack shit.thig is when cats say hip hop is dead thats almost as worse cause the shit wont ever die..EVER. when my son is born im gunna play guru and souls of mischief and jeru the damaja and tribe called quest and mos def and common while hes asleep in his cradle. hes gunna spread the word when hes my age. adn thats how
SOM took over hip hop in '94. Completely freaked the artform in a different, innovative, lyrically complex yet funky style and changed it forever. Everyone in Cali was on that G-funk or Gangster style, then these dudes came out of nowhere and flipped the script on everyone.
@NORMNormalones hahaha oh well I like "Boo's" better ;) Casual commin correct either way... I still hear new shit in old heiro i've never heard, good looks homez!
"i write raps and when niggas bite i clap cause there shit sound better now '" when i first heard that back in the day i knew cas was gonna be ON! and for those who just finding out you like the ttle of s.o.m song thats when you lost.PREACH
This was the first track I ever heard by Smash Rockwell, aka Casual. This dude would trump almost any rapper lyrically. When Cas steps into a battle, he doesn't take prisoners.....
check the GMC TYPHOON in the video. First time I seen 'em was in this vid. Oackland be up on they car game. At that time it was the only truck that could keep up wit a vette, stock.
This definitely wasn't underrated back in '94,with cats who knew the time:The underground rocked the fuck outta this joint.Cas was just 17 spittin' like this!
"ya dun let me downnn, cuz i thought u would be dope, but instead, your shit's dead...u gets fed to the allligators lurking in the moat, peep what i wrote, u bit so hard i thought the shit was a quote..but still im taxing, askin for competition, and any wack men i stomp and diss em EASILY, and u can feel the pressure bust. when i bust MC's'll BE...travelin into each other, tryin to exit, when i flex it, the way i wreck shit is not unexpected"
casual is unreal! had as much talent as any hiero rapper, INCLUDING DEL! But he never had the right marketing and his production wasnt good enough on later releases. O well, true heads no.

saafir? LOL! cmon cas killed em!
hanktoni 3 years ago
In the Wake Up Show battle? Come on man Saafir ripped him that day.
....but...Casual till this day says that Saafir was using writtens and Casual came straight from the head.
If thats the case then Saafir should have automatically lost. But it's all in Hip Hop history now
xenojive 3 years ago
Where can I hear that battle?
bugstrut 3 years ago
i found the battle on kazaa or limewire a few years ago, maybe its on youtube just search saafir vs casual
hanktoni 3 years ago
I always thought Cas got the better of him. Cas rhymes were funny saafir was off imho.
hanktoni 3 years ago
the funny part is that neither of these cats were really from the ghetto part of oakland
Casual was from the hills of oakland
Saafir was from Fresno
"the fresh prince of bel air with a slang dictionary
you used to play pictionary with MOM and DAD
you used to hang with wingdings named BUFFY and BRAD
you used to talk like this THATS RAD lets go surfing
jerky like a nerd with real niggas in the land now whats happenin with your clown ass clan"
xenojive 3 years ago
Saafir used written(some of which were used on the song 'Comewiddit')as well as straight improvised verses.
That's why i myself,being a freestyle purist,gave the battle to Casual.
Saafir is still my favorite emcee of all time, though.
thirdshift47 3 years ago
word, like I said if Saafir used writtens he would automatically lose
but it needs to be said that Saafir approached Casual and told him before hand that he would be using some writtens and said that Cas should too.
xenojive 3 years ago
Opio was about the only somebody from the crew that had a verse that, being a flawless yet impersonal verse, sounded like it could have been written.
Heiro usually pride themselves on their integrity as improvisors though,so i give 'im the benefit of the doubt.
