  • When I did my hub assembly it didn't get nearly as bad so that you can shake it. I could hear it in the car while driving that's how I knew.

  • See that big nut that holds the bearing in place? Well tighten that up to the correct torque, and that "play" should go away!

If the bearing itself, is really damaged, you should hear a horrible grinding noise when you drive it/spin it. Otherwise, you've just got excessive play!

  • @DonegalRaymie201 NO If it is worn it is safer to replace it.

  • @xywolap

But we don't know IF it was worn, do we? He only says that there is excessive play, which will NOT be fixed by simply replacing with a new bearing!

The fix to excessive play, is to tighten to the correct torque, whether you change the bearing or not!

A damaged bearing can be heard like a wailing banshee, if you've never heard one!

  • I have seen some bearings have no play and scream like an eagle down the road lol

  • Your nuts if you let a wheel bearing get that bad.

  • Check out my video response. You've also got a bad wheel bearing/wheel hub assembly if it does this!

  • This is a hub bearing. There are no serviceable wheel bearings

  • @jeepchevelle yes there is. 88-2000 chevrolet 2wds have serviceable wheel bearings in the front. supposed to torque the hub bolt every 30000 miles and check for play.

  • @1939PlymouthRatRod2

This was the 4th one installed within a year period... Kragen/Oreilly junk

  • Thanks a ton for the video post. It helped me find the answer to my question a lot faster than I was anticipating.

  • I found out how to know if you've got stuffed wheel bearings.... when they seize up driving along at 80kph....

  • It's a lot easier to just replace the hub. A replacement for my 2003 neon costs just over 40 bucks and it's easy off easy on.

  • i just had my front wheel bearings replaced professionally last year, now the wheel bearings are loose again... FML damn 1st gen exploder

  • Oh, surprisingly this video was the most helpful out of all the videos I've seen. Because it shows the CV Joint / Axle in relation to the Rotor. Made it much more clear to what was wrong with my car. So now I can actually get that fixed. Thanks.

  • my honda accord 2002 get problem on the wheel bearing also.. do i have to buy the whole hub assembly..or i can buy the bearing by it self?

  • @TheCards123 you can buy the bearing by itself but you will need to go to a shop and get it pressed in. The tools to press a bearing into a hub run over $1000. You are better off to go to a local scrapyard and search around. Since your driving an accord it shouldn't be too hard. Take the whole hub assembly off of a similar car and it should be good on yours.

  • @mexico442 tyvm...im on automotive course ryt now..we have pressed at our shop .. :D ..

  • thats a shame, that hub looks fairly new. damn chinese replacement parts.

  • right so if its shaking then its bad? cant u tighten it? or does it need to be replaced, cos my 88 bmw 318i makes a soft metal scratching sound when i turn left

  • @crocodiledavid

I don't have a ton of experience with BMW's, but SOME bearings you can rebuild, most though just require replacing the whole hub.

  • @ninnyGTP replace the whole hub eh? i hope you mean pressing the old bearings out of the hub and pressing the new bearings into the hub...

  • @ninnyGTP yea old skool one can ONLY be rebuilt, costing about 40 bucks a hub. To buy new ones for my 66' chrysler their over $1000.

  • thanx man for the vid thats EXACTLY what my gtp is doing
