@ShyteKreek46 There were total 49 starting positions in the 1953 Raleigh 300 they're referring to at the Raleigh Speedway. I think the largest field size back in that day could reach up to 75 cars depending on the track size.
i met darrell waltrip today he is the coolest guy, we were workin at his house layin carpet and he gave all of us autographed pictures and a really good tip, he didn't have to do that but it really says a lot about him no one should have any bad words to say about darell waltrip, period. he is the truth out here on us.
too bad hes the worst net work bitch goin these days shit I mean between ouu it wasn't Michale's foult, or jrs the best and lets not forget daicas great lines, Im not sure were nascars money starts and DWs brain begins. This is when he was still pure, I liked him then.
ya dont see funny interviews like that these days. Now its "well we run good all day long this dupont, pepsi, nat'l guard,amp,mobile1,cheeto's,vasaline, john deer m&ms,colgate, afflac, budweiser,jc penny toyota was strong all day'.Thats an interview these days. They gotta read the fucken car THEN talk about there day.I miss old nascar.Just hard racing hardly any advertising. Those days R dead and an gone
You hit the nail on the head with the sponsor comment. Isn't enough that the sponsors' names are plastered all over the cars, driver's suits, and the racetracks?
@JeffGORDON2426 I couldn't agree with you anymore. Laughed my ass off at all the sponsors you came up with. Although you forgot about 400 more cuz that's NASCAR (now a days)
@JeffGORDON2426 All you old time fans are so hard on modern nascar. It still is the best sport and only thing worth watchin on TV these days along with NHRA. Yea there's more advertising and rules than 20 years ago but so what? It's still stock car racing and there's lots of good racing to be seen. If all the advertising upsets you, there's Nationwide and the Truck series that carry far less big sponsors.
@MurphyMonster One thing that has improved is the camera angles and coverage of the whole track. Look at footage from 20 years ago and it sucks compared to what you see today. I just got into NASCAR and I almost prefer the Truck and nationwide series over the CUP series because I feel the CUP series is sometimes rigged.
@tryithere Didnt say it is, but it sure seems like it considering Jr always somehow makes the Chase. Jr is a joke! Jr Nation.....yea right. Anyone whos a Jr fan isnt a true nascar fan
@APontiacof455cubes He always did? Hmm well seems like he missed it in '05, '07, 09 and '10. So he's only made half of the Chases, that's hardly all of them. JR is just one of those drivers that have a good year and then a bad year. He's not the only one. Also a JR fan not a true fan? I've been a NASCAR fan since the early 90s (born in '85). Also who are you to tell people who to root for? Maybe if you grew up you wouldn't still be needing a pacifier.
@APontiacof455cubes Lastly, you said you just got into NASCAR, so who the hell are you to say who's a true fan and who isn't? I don't think a new fan is less important, but you saying what you said would be like a new guy at a job trying to tell someone that's been there for 20 years how to do something.
@SouthernGuy8503 touche lol. i just hate how Jr is just riding the coat tails of his father. Jr hasnt won a championship and hasnt won in two years. I know he had some wins in the early to mid 2000's but come on, he's past his prime!
@APontiacof455cubes How is he riding his dad's coat tails? JR had to work for everything he has. All his dad did was give him a show in his Nationwide (was Busch) Series car. He then won the Busch Championship his rookie year and the very next year. His main problem in Cup has been inconsistency. One year he could do great, next year not even finish in top 15 in points. Now with Steve LaTarte he can be. He just needed the right crew chief.
@APontiacof455cubes JR went from not having a chance for the Chase for 2 straight years to making the Chase by points this year. He also is down to earth and will admit when he screws up. Not a lot of drivers now adays will do that. He also doesn't whine and cry like some do. I know he's a driver that can be in the Chase every year, now he has a Chase crew chief. JR might have gotten a lot of fans form his dad, but they stayed because of how JR is personality wise.
@APontiacof455cubes How the hell do you get 43 teams and hundreds of people to agree to rig a race? Do you realize how hard it would be to rig races? Go do your homework because you sound like you're not old enough to even have a license.
@JeffGORDON2426 Well JR, Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick and a couple others still do funny interviews sometimes. But, the reason they say all of their sponsors all of the time is because it's in their contracts. So don't blame NASCAR or the drivers for that. Lastly, that wasn't that long ago and the first thing DW said was a sponsor plug or did you not see Tobasco all over his firesuit and car.
I remember this. Waltrip was hilarious when being interviewed. But yeah, they had water seepage on the backstraightaway, some kind of sewage leak or something, I don't know.
ok sk8board ill lay it out forya. Kyle Busch sucks not because hes opinionated or outspoken. Its because his opinions are wrong! he talks as if he is a 4 time champion and everyone should listen to him. Granted he wins alot, but for someone who wins ALL THE TIME dont you think he whines alot instead of praising his crew the other drivers and so on? Hes got a piss poor attitude and it needs to change or he'll be like waltrip in the 80s everyone hating him and taking yrs to fix it
Very true, but if you knew anything about the details of that whole Tabasco deal and what was going on at the time you'd realize that more than likely he didn't care all that much!
The 70s and 80s were Nascar's best years. It's so bland now, god forbid a driver should have an opinion. Don't say any cuss words or you'll lose 25 championship points not to mention the fines.
that was the year Tim Beverly (Tyler Jet) bought Darrell's team and "merged" it with another team (driven originally by Todd Bodine).Bodine got the boot and D.W. was put back in his own cars with Tabasco as sponsor.
Mostly true, accept for the fact that Bodine was let go before the "merger" without Tabasco's knowledge. Pretty sure anyway. That Tabasco team, which was called ISM Racing and was owned by Bob Hancher, was in trouble almost from the get go. After the merger, Waltrip's first race with the Tyler Jet Motorsports/#35 Tobasco was the Brickyard 400 and he finished in the top 15 in a Chevy. Tobasco forced them to go back to Pontiacs immediately like the ISM team was running due to marketing reasons
I couldn't have said it better myself. LOL love this interview, DW is was a great driver, is an awesome announcer and seems like a geninuely nice guy.
There's a big gap there between Atlanta '95 and the race in this video in 1998. He had some good runs in 1997 during his 25th Anniversary year. But, for the most part you are right.
