Did you now they make fishing lures from their tails? A friend of mine said he knows a guy who would cut their tails off (horrible) and let them go...he had all these tail-less squirrels running around his neighborhood lol.
I saw something on Animal Planet where they had a huge RAT (not a mouse) in a cage trap like that and the growling was so similar. I'm not sure a rat could move as fast as a squirrel though. I was kept awake all night by an angry squirrel next to my heat ducts under the floor. It would run from one end to the other making that growling noise. Very scary when home alone! LOL!
This morning there was supposed to be a lunar eclipse. Since I live in the Eastern US, I didn't see it. The noises I made closely resembled this squirrel.

Squirrels are actually farmed and eaten in some places, as they are a renewable food source and taste pretty good just like rabbit or hare. There was a case in the UK a while ago where a restaurant that was serving farmed squirrel was threatened by eco-terrorists with bombs. So they removed it from the menu and the animals rights protesters had a great moral victory, well done to them. They don't spread rabies by the way... but they taste great.

Thanks for posting this. I had one get underneath my floor next to my heat vents and in my walls the other night. The more I banged on the floor or wall, the more intense the reaction. I was absolutely terrified that it would somehow find a way in. I had NEVER heard such a noise but suspected it was a squirrel since I have lots of nests in my 2 acre wooded lot. Thanks again for the confirmation on this demonic creature!! LOL!

actually retards. if you know anything about a shy and cautious animal like an eastern grey squirrel, you would know that being in captivity like a squirrel trap scares them to death. of course they would growl. they will also growl as pets too if you tell them something that they cant do. they dont like to hear no. squirrels look too cute to have brains, but they actually do. the eastern grey has one the size of a walnut. this is very large for it's size.
have you seen how they can crack a walnut??? lol i cant even do it with hands ans theyre tons smaller than us. their performance3 on the obstacle course was amazing.

Squirrel will make this kind of noise when it is terrified of being trapped.
This applies whether the squirrel is trapped in a cage or in between wall of a building.
