@rsageeth what do u mean hype on her? I don't have to hype on her, don't u think so? Tara's 3Lo+3Lo is amazing thouhg not a combo she usually successed. But I love that though :)
@filipinoICEsk8ter Yeah, I went seeing it and it was a triple-triple-double but it was still amazing! =D I just can't stop cheering and loving Carolina! =D
@Tinafigureskating She jumps really far. I don't even know how she was able to get the triple toe close to the boards. The triple loop is he hardest out of the bunch..
@filipinoICEsk8ter is there still a limitation on how many triples you are allowed in one program? If so, I can see why some choose to not do 3-3-3, outside of its difficulty that is.
@RevShaqueefa Yes. They have to plan out the program to make it work well. You can replace triples with doubles and use the triples later. It can work a lot better if they do a 3 somthing-3t-3t. Because 3 toe is commonly used for two triple triple combos. You can only repeat 2 triple jumps, one of each being in combination. And this year it's only 2 double axels one being in combo or sequence. If you do a half loop now in a sequence, it's considered another jump. A lot of rule changes.
I know right? Carolina is finally in a good training environment and she is finally utilizing the system to its full extent.... I feel like she is really good!
@MrAmazingness1234567 Yeah, the only bad thing about her is her concentration! She has to keep focused on high competitions like europeans and worlds! She didn't do very well this year in Europeans! =( too bad! I think that she did the right thing on going back to Michael Huth! He's a very good coach and I feel like he's the perfect one for her! All that she has won in her life with figure skating has been conceived by not only her talent, grace, posture and hard working but also by him! =D
You are right, stewNWT. Also, Carolina's got better clearance and she doesn't seem to struggle much with her jumps like that of Arakawa. And I think Arakawa's reinvented version of the ina bauer is much better than the original ina bauer.
The ladies of figure skating are amazing. They can't do quads or triple axels, but they replace those jumps with even more difficult jumps (3 sth-3loop) Now that I think about it, I haven't seen a single man land a 3sth-3loop combo
Too much Michelle Kwan! I love her dearly but she will never be remembered for her triple-triple combinations (unless you count the times that she needed to do them and ended up doubling the second jump).
Those 3 3t 3l combos are short. A 3s 3t 3t or something ending in a 3t 3t would be more pleasant and easier to do. Great piece you put together and it seems if Carolina would only be a bit more consistent then she could dominate. Her 3/3 look very smooth clean and good flow.

A half-loop combo is obviously much harder than a sequence (though not as hard as a pure combo) so that is probably why they have basically disappeared since CoP.
Michelle has not landed more 3t3t than anyone in competition. She peaked in the mid to late 90's, where she was landing 3t3t (this video shows quite a few of them), but you need to remember that Midori Ito has skated in many competitions and was landing this jump combo when she was 13 (1982). She did the 3t3t in nearly ALL of her competitions from that point on, which means we are talking about 20 years at least of 3t3t. I don't any woman has come close to that.
Hey also, I think one of the most overlooked and probably important historical TT's is Kristi Yamaguchi's triple lutz triple toe way back at the 1992 Olympics. I didn't even realize she did that until I saw it on youtube.
I love Carolina Kostner's triple triple, such awesome flow. Michelle Kwan actually had a nice one when she just went for it. Mao asada is so incomparable. NO ONE does triple triples like Shizuka thouugh
It was still ratified though, and she is credited with being the first woman to land a 3-3-3. BTW, I just wanted to say, this is a really amazing video!
So, as it stands now, Carolina Kostner has completed the most difficult jump combo ever in ladies' skating with her 3flip+3toe+3loop in practice, which is worth 14.5 base points under COP.
Mao Asada has landed a 3-3-3 in competition at the Japan Nationals, in 2003 (I'm not positive about the year though). I first found out about it on Wikipedia. I think it was a 3F-3L-3T. The video is up on youtube, under mao asada triple-triple-triple.
Very good video, thanks!! I didn't see Arakawa's BIG POTENTIAL until now!! WOW I'm impressed!! My TOP 5 female IceSkater: Midori Ito, Surya Bonaly, Kristy Yamaguchi, Tara Lipinsky, MaoAsada!! The sixth Arakawa!
You should add Caroline Zhang's triple-triple as well. I heard she recently landed it in her SP. The ladies field is going to be more interesting, I think.
Hahahaha... this is a funny video! I thought the music went really well! It sort of further perpetuates the dizzying nausea as it gets more and more intense and the titles have more and more exclamation points. Can I just say, ARAKAWA is BOMB!
About Meissner's improper toe-loop technique, do you mean she pre-rotates it, like she's doing a toe-axel? (I think that's what my coach called it at one time, anyway.)
LOVED this! Thanks for posting. However, you forgot to include Amber Corwin AND Kimmie Meisner. Corwin's 3toe-3toe was always her most consistent jumping pass, even if she WAS barely able to do a 3 lutz.

Great compilation... its like a walk down memory lane :) One very "old school" 3t-3t -> Debi Thomas at 1988 US Nationals. I love Carolina Kostner! Her jumps scare me though... she so fast and close to the boards that I think she'll slam into them. Waiting for her to pull a Midori Ito and jump into the boards. I've seen CK do 3-3-3 for fun in practice at the 2003 Worlds in DC. She was just a youngin' back then.
midori jumps are the best :D (seriously, dont argue with me on that). so much height.... D: and she takes very little time to get in her 2nd jump. quite astonishing.
i can definitely see why the loop is harder to use as the second jump >.>
Great im glad ur fav jump is 3 loop 3 loop from tara coz mine is 2 i rekon shes tha best u shuld makew a montage of her just doing her 3 3ples i mean coz ur great at makin vidios nd it wuld be great 2 watch!thnx neway xxxxxxoooooo
Amazing to see just how many times Michelle landed her triple-triple in competition. In the grand scheme of triple-triples, she was quite consistent on it, actually.
that was so awesoem! Love it! great toe tapping music to show the incredible athleticism and I love how you capped it off with triple- triple- triple. you are great at making skating vids! Keep it up!

Hey guys, open question: how does the COE account for 'half loop' triple triple combos (such as Tara Lipinki's Ttoe half loop Tsow in Nagano 1998)? Personally I think it should be just as valuable as triple toe combos, cause you're still buggered if you blow the first jump.
StewNWT 4 years ago
Under CoP, a half loop between to jumps makes it a jump sequence because it is not a scored jump, subjecting the jumps to the normal .8 sequence multiplier. I think carolina kostner made some clean jumps in the 3- flips toes loops combo... the 3-loop seemed miraculously effortless. Just to let you know.

midori jumps are the best :D (seriously, dont argue with me on that). so much height.... D: and she takes very little time to get in her 2nd jump. quite astonishing.
i can definitely see why the loop is harder to use as the second jump >.>

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AWESOME!
Amazing to see just how many times Michelle landed her triple-triple in competition. In the grand scheme of triple-triples, she was quite consistent on it, actually.
