  • Very, very Interesting!

  • Excellent demonstration of the reed switches fast switching capability!

  • Hi lid I have a question for you or anyone else that may be able to answer it, when a sphere magnet with the poles to each side as you use in your experiments passes a coil and creates a magnetic field and a current what pole does the magnet induce in the part of the coil adjacent to it in relation to which pole of the magnet is passing the coil at that moment , I hope I have phrased that in such a way as people can understand.

    Kind Regards

    Nik

  • i have the ability to tell if 2 notes are the same, with audacity i made a 500hz sawtooth wave and it matches precisely. it could be going 30,000 rpm if it is turning 500 times a second.

  • rroge5---WOW!! Thanks. That is fast. Some of my high speed ball magnet spinners sounded much faster than this one. You might listen to one of my earlier videos and see how fast they were turning. There were scary fast and very noisy.

  • i might be 20 hz inaccurate tho. which one?

  • also what is the litlle magnet on turners box for ?

  • blulander----The little magnet is a tuning magnet. Once you find a place on the motor where the spinning rotor magnet will turn the reed switch on and off, then you fine tune it with the little magnet. Once you find the right position you crazy glue the little magnet in place. It takes time and you have to trial and error it.

  • could you post a circuit diagram please Lid

  • blulander----The circuit is posted a few videos back on the "Mechanical Joule Thief Charger" video. It is just a battery, a coil of wire, and a magnetically activated reed switch. Super simple.

  • tubemp---Thanks

  • Hey Lid,

I am really tired and got double-whammied with an accidental deletion and then YouTube ate my second carefully crafted posting.

So the short version: How about a bucket-brigade of "Rockettes" (pick a better name). Strong Mr. Turner at the back, a nice "V" of high class dames laid out in front of him including Maggie, Mary, Martha, Melanie, Mary-Ann, Marcie, Marie, (and others) all flashing their eyes and doing imaginary leg-kicks in the mind... Might be fun! lol

  • Thanks----That made me Laugh Out Loud. I could instantly picture that --all the "M" spinners with their blinking eyes. The only problem is that I don't think that Mr. Turner (as stout a fellow as he is) could handle all the ladies at once. He is kind of a one gal guy. I still might try that. It would be another fun experiment. Maybe with just three "M"s.

  • very cool, impresive reed switch.

  • @harpbloke--This little reed switch works good on a small project like this but burns out fast if you try and push it with too much power. This is not really what it was made for. It was the only thing I could get close by. What the heck ---it works.

  • Wow ! nice work.

    A greetings :)

  • @alfacentauro1111 ---Thanks. Just another fun project.

  • Wow. What sort of reed switches are those exactly?

  • janne808-- The reed switch is a Radio Sh-a-ck 5volt / .5amp. They cost less than $2.

  • Thats fantastic ,, it really goes some :) I would like to see you test the rpm of that .. I'd say its getting at least 5000rpm , maybe closer to 10,000 even ... Place your bets !!! 5/5

  • ZED----That is kinda what I was thinking based on other things that I have measured. If I let it rev on up the RPM would probably be over 10k. At some point that reed switch will most likely "float" and the speed will stabilize. I was very surprised that this worked.
