I know why you could find no soundtrack album. It wouldn't be much of an album. :-)
There is no "soundtrack" album to Broadcast news because there were only three credited songs, and one of them was "Newsroom Theme", which was written to have as background, and it has an urgency to it -- not what you'd enjoy during dinner. LOL.
Then there is this song (thanks for finding it!).
The third song is "Midnight Train to Georgia" as performed by Gladys Knight and the Pips.
Thx for posting this..just saw the movie again and something about this song pulls you in even though it goes by in seconds. Any idea what he's singing about?
I first heard this too on the film Broadcast News and had to find out more - fortunately I found the album above in HMV and from then to now have bought everything by this wonderful musician - sadly not known here in UK but deservedly popular in France .
Here's my stab at a translation. Part 1: First, there's this girl in the glass box Who says "Good night, see you tomorrow" over a piece of music Some fellows' names in reverse And then nothing I was there at eight o'clock for the bad news She left me alone with my desire for her Behind her face, a landscape of snow And then nothing Afterward, I hear my friend on the local radio in the middle of a speech Hoping it's time to bowl everyone over, if that day ever comes
Translation part 3: Life-sized, her eyes on the wall And then I look for anyone I know who is still standing I don't have to lure anyone at this hour It shouldn't be hard I just can't sleep with nobody next to me The silence waits I hear it resonate "Go, hey, good night!" The sound when I hang up And then nothing And then ... Special Edition ..
Translation part 4: When I wake up, the girl in the glass box already said hello My friend's gone off in another anger over another speech But the night comes quickly to those who are afraid of it There are things that we avoid It's not easy with her A quiet afternoon A banal afternoon And then ... And then ... Special Edition
Over the years I thought I was the only one searching for this song from 'Broadcast News' -1987. I searched Tower Records right after seeing it with no luck. And on a vacation to Quebec, Canada back in '92 I went into a record store certain that someone would know of Francis Cabrel and 'L'Edition Speciale', but no. Thank you for bringing it out of obscurity. -- Ray from Radnor, PA

Translation part 2:
Because it seems like there's fire over half of the world
And we wait for the best, just for the Sagittarians
After one last drink, the breath of the stars
And then nothing
And then nothing
And then, Special Edition, Special Edition
In living color, my desire for her
And then, Special Edition, Special Edition
