What I find funny about these arguments about his technical skill is that nobody herecan truly say they know how good his technical skills truly are. We only ever hear him play in his own style for his own songs. That doesn't mean he can't rock out something else if he wanted to. I would imagine that after so many years of being a guitarist, he would actually know how to use a guitar to it's full extent.
Let me just clear the air about Edge and his guitar tech's relationship. Dallas Schoo is not Edge's "slave". In fact, they have been extremely close friends ever since Dallas started working with Edge in '85. Besides, I'm sure Edge gives him a pretty generous salary as a reward for all of the hard work and help Dallas has provided him
@DantonDK ahh right , its a ferndaes infinite sustain guitar , theres different models you can get i think its the retro rocket model in this video :)
hi anyone can answer, please could you tell me what effect unit is edge activating at 2:48 exactly? i'm quite sure it's some kind of an octaver but i'm not sure about certain type. thanks for any reasonable help. so once again, exact name of effect unit used at 2:48. thanks for help. ;)
Its the Line 6 Octo Reverb. Its on the LIne 6 M13 stompbox modeller, and probably on a few of their other units too. Edge does use rackmount LIne 6 PODs, so its probably coming from one of those.
Funny thing is that his tech gives him a preset for another song "love and peace". And Edge even notices that difference in Sound. Sure he can opperate all that stuff by himself, But can you imagine how much time that would take in a concert or stuff like that? :-D
Man I wish I had a dude running behind me handing me guitars and making sure I'm plugged in. Still I would hire a hot girl instead of the normal scruffy roadie dude.
Hes amazing.. End of story. Hes put so many years into his sound.. Hate on him all you want but at the end of the day he's the guy with three other amazing muscians selling out wembly.
I wish i had a person that could take my guitar off my shoulder unplug it, put it on the rack, and grab another one, put it on me, and plug it in for me.
@poisondripingsword he'd still be better then you anyday. besides, he just uses effects (yea THATS how you spell it) to embelish what he creates. and clearly it works
@giraultsmusic...You're funny. You pointed out someone else misspelling effects, only to subsequently misspell e-m-b-e-l-l-i-s-h only eight words later.
Well if The Edge is a music genius, then no, i have no clue about music. Don't wanna spoil the sensation to others, but u2 is nothing else but industry whore...fin
@poisondripingsword your just plain WRONG. industry whore? U2 are in the position (and have been for 15 or so years) were they write and tour whenever they want and do whet ever they feel necessary to push thing forward in the world of production. have you ever seen any live U2 shows? thats a stupid question because if you had you wouldnt come out with stupid comments like "i would like to see him play without all those efects, he would suck terribly" what a load of old twaddle.
sometimes ya just want to fucking PLAY!..and he can..when he wants of course..when he does its intesity benefits from a fucking sense of relief, perhaps modifying the eactual skill set..non the less, ingenious and unique
That would be the unit that controls everything in his rack units. With the push a button it will dial up a preprogrammed tone for each and every song or part. Im not sure who makes that one but voodoo labs makes one called the gcx. Pretty awesome.
Dallas isn't a "slave". He's guitar tech. And he is there for an important reason. He gets Edge his guitars when he needs them and checks all effects for Edge. If you had to do multiple tunings and use 21 guitars every night you'd be confused about what tuning a song is in too! He's a brilliant guitarist who knows his stuff. I envy that rig!
isn't it funny the guy that helps the edge?.. and the edge looks like he's so used to that guy that he waits for the guy to help him all the time he can't even put the guitars back in its place..
Don't you know that this is Dallas Schoo, Edge's guitar tech for about 20 years? Of course he's used to him. I don't know why everyone is so angry and shocked that Dallas is helping him out o.O
@yourdestiny Dead right there my friend. All masters of the helm are not alone yet they always get the credit, just like pilots fly aircraft and need engineering to work out and tweak their systems; The Edge is no different.
every guitar is used for a certain song not just picked random off the rack and they are all very well thought out ..like city of blinding lights is the gretsch country gentleman and beautiful day is the explorer which he sold for charity and then went out and bought an exact replica same colour same wood same everything ...nice to have money to do it
The guitar is the "infinite guitar". Only two models exist, one of which is owned by the guy who invented it (who produced the Joshua Tree) and the other is owned by the Edge. He used it on the song "WIth or Without You".
he doesnt seem to know alot about his own stuf really does he and why 18 guitars for a gig its just stupid even if they all sound different you must know which guitars sound best for a song....tbh i think hes a overated version of tom morrello my opinion
I sorta agree with you, however I doubt he uses each guitar during his gigs. He just picks whatever he feels like. You know what they say "better to have and not need than to need and not have."
It is a 12 string. 12 string Ricks don't have the average tuning machine style. Instead of two rows on either side of the guitar, it has four rows of three, with the bottom two rows underneath. Actually, it's a pretty interesting set up.
Gotcha, that's why I asked. I knew about the set-up but I couldn't distinguish if it was or wasn't in this vid. The set-up is cool because it's a bit deceiving, a Rick 12-string headstock to the untrained eye looks like a 6-string one.
Yeah, I know. I love the way the Rick headstocks are. Although, the one he's using in this video, I don't quite like the body. I wish I could get my hands on a Rick, any of them, to just play it for a little. My local shop only deals in Fender, Ibanez, Peavey, and Hagstrom.
So many cool guitars I haven't had a chance to play. ;_;
It's so interesting to get in on what kinds of effects he is using and how his styles have developed over the years. I also think it's funny that people call him "below standard" and yet say he "makes good songs." First, it's called style, no matter if it's extremely complicated or extremely difficult... second, you have probably not heard him play live.
As for Dallas, he's a tech, he knows all the tech stuff, as he is paid to do it. The Edge could probably do it himself, but Dallas is paid to help him out and streamline everything. They have to rely on each other. If you think about the massive variety of effects and styles in the course over hundreds of songs, it would be hard for just one person (who is aging) to contain at that without charts and lists, etc.
At any rate, intriguing video, I now need to go find "It Might Get Loud" so I can see how this is goingto come together with Jack White and Jimmy Page...
yeah, the guy doing all of his bitch work, is the one who knows and comes up with the songs but he's paid off because of their money. edge has no edge. Hes just got money. I heard he wasn't going to do this due to his beliefs but I'm sure he sold out on himself.
