@NintendoMaster098 Perhaps you have more stable free hand aim. As you can see in my LP, outside VATS I can barely hit things, and without VATS, the game would be almost unplayable.

@TheLiquidPepper Yeah you can shoot things outside of Vats pretty easy. VATS "runs out" though in battle sometimes so you are forced to free hand. We get an aiming reticule, not sure about PC guys.

@NintendoMaster098 I have played with both the console version of Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 3 for the PC. As far as I can tell, there is little difference besides that you can mod the PC version of the game.

@NintendoMaster098 PC handling is actually horrible for lock picking. When you go way to the sides, the controls get very bad, as in the screwdriver doesn't move like you do with your mouse. (can't rly describe that atm) I prefer the console controls for lockpicking, in both accuracy and overall handling.

@chaosen5waffles Your post was four months ago, but like TheLiquidPepper said sometimes LP is more important, but on the other hand, Science is used in speech checks more often.

Especially in Fallout: New Vegas it can be worth it to have high science. For example, you need Science in order to re-use empty Energy Weapons ammo, and it's used A LOT in speech checks, much more than Fallout 3.

Good quesion, in Deus Ex you could destroy locks and doors but I dont know if its possibile here.

@Nosfaratutu Silver's house in Megaton, there's a cabinet with a couple of bobby pins. Medical boxes usually have them. If you know where Rockbreaker's Last Gas is, if you go directly west from there, there is an abandoned shack with 18 bobby pins (it varies, thats what I got). Raiders and ghouls occasionally have some.

oblivion locks are way different.but on oblivion you can go to the shrine of nocturnal and do the ouest and when you finish you get rewarded a skeleton key which never breaks.i wonder if there is something like that on fallout 3.

On the 360 (or PS3) it's really easy cos you can move the screwdriver slowly, so the bobby pin doesn't move down each time you get it wrong

It's strange that a bulkhead would have a standard 5-pin lock though...

@heyheyusa1 It might be your controller that's "autopicking". Try turning the controller off, then back on. if that doesnt work, save your game, turn off the console for a while, then go back. This is very common on Xbox controllers, which is why i prefer ps3. :P

Well, the only way I know is to put points in it when you level up. If it says 100, then it is 100, and you should be able to pick it. Perhaps you are out of bobby pins.

Sometimes, with important locks there will be a key hidden somewere. Example, in megaton there is a very hard disk in the water purification place. Johnny has the key, either get it in a speech attempt, or kill him.

(note, there are only keys for SOME containers, not all.)

yes you can you just put the pin anywhere and see if the lock turns. if the pin is stuck 2 times i just exit the lock and try again, resetting the pin

another hint: if you come close to breaking a bobby pin (you can tell by how bent it is) you can exit the lock picking screen and bring it back up again to get a clean slate without losing any bobby pins

Yeah Bobby Pins are found in searchable items and on bodies as well as bought. At one point in time I had over 200 of them.
