Vedrò con mio diletto Vivaldi Vedrò con mio diletto l'alma dell'alma mia Il core del mio cor pien di contento. E se dal caro oggetto lungi convien che sia Sospirerò penando ogni momento... I will see with joy I will see with joy, the soul of my soul heart of my heart full of content. And if from my dear object I be far away I will sigh, suffering every moment...
@mukara77 So,if some just can't tell the difference why they are so offended that the others have more sensitive ears, musical training, great appreciation of true baroque and CAN feel the difference?:)Calling somebody a POP singer isn't an insult as POP means only POPULAR,but it's different from the academic point of view where PROPER operatic technique matters and attachment to the CHARACTER of the opera.Pop singers concentrate on one side, like here pleasing sounds and can sing in a FLAT voice.
@mukara77 Happy New Year to you too!:-) But what's the problem of exchanging opinions? It's YT, public domain. Those who just want to listen to beautiful music, and if they like the voice and don't care if it's a CT or pop singer, if it's baroque or ba-rock:-) can just ignore the comments. They can post their own comments. We didn't block everybody from it:-). The majority don't understand what flat voice is and don't want to understand. But real CTs sing love arias as MATURE MEN,not like PJ!
@serenaluce Calling "BS", and "pop commercial crap". That's bashing for me.
You missunderstood me. I thought the "I wish I could sing at all" part was clear.
Let's give clossure to this conversation. You feel Jaroussky is a crappy pop singer, and you're entitled to your opinion. Trying to convice others, I don't think is going to work well.
@mukara77 You misunderstood me either. All genres are legitimate, but I'm for HONESTY in presentation one's work and not just making money on people's ignorance who can't tell a POP FALSETTIST performing baroque, etc in his FLAT pop, small untrained falsetto from a REAl operatic CT.So, you are just pissed off at ME,that I HEAR the difference, not at PJ and his promoters? He can't be compared with opera singers like Piau and Alagna. HE imposes his POP on me, and I have no right to say it's POP?!
@serenaluce I'm not that good, but Italian is similar enough to spanish to grasp the meaning (Translation SW works good anyway)
There's no need to bash on his singind if you dislike it. I wish I could sing like that! (I wish I could sing at all for that matter). Granted, his voice is not as moving as other operatic Counter Tenors, but I don't find it emotionally flat either.
About Showing off, I don't understand why the dislike. His control is great, and very well on key, which I appreciate.
@mukara77 It's about meeting soon his love and dreaming how joyfully it will be,"l'alma del'alma mia"(soul of my soul),with what content the heart of his heart, and if he is far from the object of his love he will sigh and suffer every moment...So, if PJ's control is great it's great for a POP singer. You think that POP is only Justin Bieber? It's the MANNER in which PJ sings. If YOU dream of singing like him doesn't prove HE is a real COUNTERTENOR who can't have a FLAT voice. What bashing you mean?
@serenaluce That's a very subjective matter. Jaroussky might lack a little depht and volume, but I don't think he lacks feeling or emotion in his singing. Anyway that's just my opinion. What you expect from a Counter Tenor is up to you. If you don't like his singing, well, there's nothing to do about it.
(On a personal note, I find this CAPS writing to be very anoying, so please, if you want to emphasize something, Capitalization is sufficiently noticeable. Just a little Internet politeness)
@mukara77 Yes,it's very subjective. But first I'd like to ask you if you understand Italian. These are the lyrics.Vedrò con mio diletto
l'alma dell'alma mia
Il core del mio cor pien di contento.
E se dal caro oggetto
lungi convien che sia
Sospirerò penando ogni momento...
Do you think a mature man IN LOVE will sing like that to his TRUE love with making big "innocent"eyes, showing off HIMSELF and only on high notes? If YOU were this person you'd buy this BS?His emotions only on his FACE!
@serenaluce I mean the absence of secondary sex characteristics. (Look for Sexual Maturity on wikipedia). Behaviour is another story, and way off topic.
On the vocal side, we can only guess. You (and many others) prefer other classical operatic Counter Tenors. Some find Jaroussky's style more appealing. I happen to appreciate both for their own merits; and you can't deny Jaroussky's success has brought big attention to this beautiful music, which in the end I think is a good thing.
@mukara77 Behaviour is very important too and it's relevant to singing. You forget that it's not only about producing sweet empty sounds like PJ to entertain people who don't care about what he sings. But singing is about sharing an artist's SOUL, true emotions and MATURITY too. A mature MAN who calls himself a COUNTERTENOR should sings as a MATURE MAN.It's a LOVE ARIA about seeing his beloved one, not about parody where a man pretends that he is still a baby. Still it's POP, not serious art!
@serenaluce Well that "BS" happens to be a medical fact. Castration before puberty prevents the development of secondary sex characteristics, (including development of the larynx), thus the term Sexually Immature. Bringing their sexual Behaviour up is off topic regarding voice.
You have a good point there. This is an exchange of opinions, but you seem to be trying to evangelize your own as an irrefutable truth.
@mukara77 Happy holidays to you too! But what do you mean "sexually immature" then? Castration is a medical fact, but castration before puberty for singing purpose to preserve high voice for boys didn't prevent them from becoming mature sexually active men afterward! It's a hystorical fact. They just developed a different type of body- very tall with wide chest, but they were not innocent for the rest of their lives. They shared their MATURE human MALE emotions with people, not sexless "angels"
@serenaluce Now your'e just arguing for the sake of it. Of course I can be wrong about their voice, but that doesn't mean you're right. Nobody can tell!. Castratti were Sexually Immature men. Full grown up but immature men. Their testes were removed, in case you have forgotten. Their larinxes grew with them, but never to a male larinx. I would bet that ruined the Manly sound. It would be like asking for a woman to sound Manly. As for the bloddy mess, the Church has done even worse things, so...
@mukara77 Actually, if you think that it's something else, I can remind you that it's only exchange of opinions on YT. I can say the same about YOU that you argue just for the sake of it. But you are talking nonsense that castrati were Sexually Immature men. Who told you this BS? First read something about what castration for singing purpose is. Do you think that they were innocent? Impotent? Castration doesn't prevent it. They only couldn't make children, but rich women used them as sex toys...
@serenaluce Yes, he does, because part of what he sings is from that period, and I really doubt a sexually immature to have had a manly voice. Vocally I'd rather believe they did were "teenagers stopped in their development" as that is what Castration actually does to development. Granted, their voice must have been extremely well trained and potent, but hardly manly. I have heard several Counter Tenors before, but if you want to give names, suit yourself.
@mukara77 Actually, you are wrong about what castrato voice was. It's what PJ and his promoters want people to think to sell better his POP commercial crap! Originally before any opera CHURCH revived this practice to lure people to their temples with SENSUAL PLEASURES as people began to lose FAITH, and only CASTRATI could do it with their SPECIAL MANLY SOUND! Haven't you ever thought if castrati were teenagers stopped in their development why church couldn't use just boys then without this mess?
@mukara77 Why castration then - this bloody mess? Young boys with innocent clear voices before puberty sounding like little angels grow up every year not only now, but at the time of castrati too! But singing isn't just producing LOVELY SOUNDS, but also sharing artists' SOUL, expressing HUMAN emotions according to their AGE! Little boys can't express what MATURE men with LIFE EXPERIENCE can do! Body becomes bigger and people MATURE too.PJ only pretends that he is still a teenager! It's a FAKE!
@mukara77 REAL countertenors are supposed to sound like MATURE men, not "innocent" boys, women or sexless "angels". It's for FALSETTISTS to do it who have always existed like PJ now. But they should stay now in their right category! It's fraud to present PJ as a real CT who can show a bit how castrati could sound. Normal men always sound MANLY no matter how HIGH and don't have FLAT "teddybear"voices. Listen to e.g. Lesne, Lemos, Cencic, White, Scholl, Daniels, Mena, Ragin and compare...
@serenaluce I don't know what your idea of a glimpse is. I'm not saying he sounds like a baroque opera singer. And even if he did (which most probably he doesn't) I couldn't tell, neither do you or anyone else, as no one alive has ever heard one sing before. I beg to differ that a moden Counter Tenor is a better reference, for their vocal cords have gone through puberty, and just like Jaroussky, they sing in falsetto.
@mukara77 It's exactly my point that nobody of now living have heard castrati singing, so how can you say that PJ gives you this "glimpse of what Baroque opera might have sounded like"? You can only say that the MUSIC in this orchestra with more modern intstruments gives you this glimpse. But I know very well what true CTs are and how they are different from just men singing in falsetto as PJ who is a typical FALSETTIST, not CT.Mature men sound MANLY, no matter how high.Shall I give you names?
... so what if he is a male soprano, counter tenor, falsetist, pop star or whatever people wanna call him. He has a wonderful voice which apparently is enjoyied by an overwhelming majority. Kudos to him for offering us a small glimpse of what Baroque opera might have sounded like. Oh, and by the way, please, don't feed the trolls, just listen and enjoy
@mukara77 It doesn't offer us any glimpse of what Baroque opera might have sounded as it was all about CASTRATI, mighty singing machines with huge range to express all human emotions and not just "castrated sugar syrop".Castrati didn't sound like teenagers stopped in their development like PJ pretends. At that time falsettists were not used in opera but to entertain part of audience with their sexual ambiguity, like somewhat sexless angels.Only REAL CTs now can give a glimpse of it,not falsettists
@Herrkogol: Maybe you are right, and that serenaluce person is a "castrati", and therefore angry at all countertenors, because they are not. It would explain those crazy ravings.
@CaraPhilos What about YOUR own crazy ravings? You don't understand at all what I'm talking about as you are just "castrated" in the head and and only write total BS here. Who the hell is angry at ALL countertenors? Who the hell says that countertenors are CASTRATI?! Please don't make me laugh! You just make a laughing-stock of YOURSELF! You claim that you understand something in CT singing but can't even tell a REAL CT from a FAKE one like PJ who is just POP! But before raving check my channel!
@fairies47 Oh really? PJ is an ANGEL, not a man? LOL Does he have WINGS then? Did you see them yesterday? LOL Or do you confirm that he is a SAINT only because he sings an a very small untrained falsetto and infiltrated into a countertenor world as a virus only to attract more people to theatres who understand nothing at all in true baroque like YOU to make MONEY on people's IGNORANCE! LOL It's not an academic manner at all! Just a sheep bleating! PJ is only a POP SINGER! YOU have no ears!
@serenaluce How dare you insult me like this? I don't know you, and you don't know me. What do you know of my life? Of my education? Of my background? And more than that, my sensibility? I've been listening to music since I'm a baby, there are professional musicians in my family, and I know much more of baroque and countertenors than you can even imagine. I'm fond of Alfred Deller, Gerard Lesne, Derek Lee Ragin, Andreas Scholl and others.. See? You know nothing of me. So don't you dare judge me!
@fairies47 I insulted YOU?You appeal to the whole world to ALL the people whom you don't know, their lives, interests, sensitivities, etc.since they were babies too with their own interests and notions what music should be, partly BAROQUE in the case, and you presume that ONLY YOU know what is PERFECT and what is not! You accuse those people who don't share YOUR ideas of having no HEART or no EARS! And with your ridiculous statement that PJ is an ANGEL!LOLHow dare you insult me that I've no ears?
@serenaluce I never said that, and I meant CLASSICAL music (noticed I've forgotten to put the word) since, etc You are re-inventing what I said before: you were judging me on classical music, so I answer you on this matter. When I say P Jarrousky is an angel, it's a way of speaking (maybe just a French expression?), of course!
@serenaluce And I didn't say that I knew what is perfect, because you're the first who were giving lessons to me!! You have the right not to love Jarroussky, but don't treat me like an idiot because I do!
I saw on your profile that you're not a kid anymore, but your attitude is not very adult, I'm sorry to say that... And you should respect Jarrousky for bringing beauty to this world...
@fairies47 Poor baby, obviously following your logic if someone also joins in blind admiration of your empty POP IDOL Phillipe Jaroussky and writes like many obsessed comsumers of sweet sounds in such videos that he is ANGEL, GOD, they want to MARRY him or have his BABIES it's a sign of being an ADULT! And if someone posts a negative comment, also for you to become sober and not to write such idiotic comments anymore, etc it's already behaving like a kid!"It's perfect"-your comment, not mine!
@fairies47Of course,he is an ANGEL, only because YOU heard him somewhere! People, wake up!It's not comparison in any language anymore, but abusing of the word "angel"! I've heard it about any pop singer, and also about Bartoli with her wild visceral special effects!LOL It can be only said "angelic voice" about a singer!I don't say that it's BAD to bring beauty to this world even in POP INTERPRETATIONS!But an artist shoudl be HONEST!Why is he compared then with true OPERA singers Alagna and Piau?
@fairies47 Our poor innocent baby is furious now! Please don't cry. I hate hysterical young people. Please keep a bit of dignity. Just using swearwords doesn't do you any credit! It just shows that I'm right and you can't find any MUSICAL ARGUMENT to prove that PJ isn't just a POP SINGER artificially made CT by promotion making money on people's ignorance! I hate French people? LOL Check my channel: great REAL CT, HONEST artist Gerard Lesne is one of my favourites.I comment on PJ not as a person!
Philippe is the perfect combination of natural talent and proper technique ; His voice is a gift from God and his technique flawless. Perhaps one of the most beautiful and well trained voices ever.
can anyone else recommend OPERA songs like this ???? i seriously don't like opera, but this kind of opera is an exception with the nice background sounds !!
@TheMorgrad Currently does not exist anymore castration for musical reasons, he is a countertenor, a man who sings with the voice of a soprano register.
@TornaZefiro Yes I'm aware that such practice stopped a couple of hundreds years ago. Which is why when I heard his voice I could not help but wonder...
@TheMorgrad It is a matter of training. You can learn to sing in a higher register if you are taught to - many countertenors are in the baritone range also. Then, there are also males who have a natural, unusually high voice, and they can of course use that in singing. But that's a different thing, and sounds different from a falsetto singer.
I'm debating with myself whether Jaroussky can sing baritone parts, because for some reason the amazing thing about most countertenors is that they can sing a LOT lower than you would expect them to be able to.
@Wagnerlover777 There is an interview with him on a german talk show where he sings with his baritone-voice. Check it out on YT! It is subtitled in english
I came here two years ago and thought this guy was amazing, his voice's such a divine gift. Now I'm here again and I still think the same thing. Call me old-fashioned or whatever for liking classical music, I couldn't careless. But one thing I have to admit that this is the exquisite artistry of music and of art that I wholeheartedly appreciate.

@Miupiui To convince in what? To become honest and work only with true artists instead of just sacrificing all art for money! If they choose this profanation are you so naive that I can write to them and they will feel ashamed and will stop this nonsense?! LOL Perhaps you can write to fast food chains owners and convince them that what they make is not healthy food and they just lie in their advertisments, that they should be honest and not present junk food for real good food? You'll succede!LOL
Oh, what a vat of sour grapes. It sounds as baselessly vitriolic as Barthes's disparagement of Souzay. Haters take a hike. Honestly, the notion that this performance is devoid is interpretation or finesse is just wrong-headed. His de capo reveals more finesse and insight than most Baroque baroque practitioners. His passage work is clean, it's not overarticulated. He appears to enjoy himself, his face isn't contorted. He's not my favorite countertenor, but I'm glad he's singing.
It doesn't really matter what you're ''assuming'' about me as far as I'm concerned. I may think that PJ is a classical artist but since (unlike you) I'm not trying to convince anybody, I didn't even bring this opinion to the discussion. What is more important for me, is that your inability to prove PJ's supposed popiness is here for everyone to see. I didn't ask for anything more.
Fortunately, both readers and listeners are able to judge for themselves.
I guess this means that you're finally recognizing to not having any evidence regarding PJ's popiness. No wonder you want me to give an ''explanation'' so much: you are hoping that I would provide you with the conceptual framework to shape your argument. But, if ''it woks both ways'' then I don't see why I should help you. Why should I craft a careful argumentation when you didn't even bother to produce even a hint of argumentation for a whole week now?
ALL singers are miked when they are radio/TV broadcasted and PJ isn't miked more than any other CTs (eg: Cencic vids on YT). ''Incidentally'', some people have seen PJ performing without a mike and some of them (me and some reviewers including) are even thinking that he's heard BETTER than Cencic and Scholl in the hall. Such a nonsense isn't it? Fortunately, you are able to evaluate PJ's vocal projection from YT clips.... I'm quite impressed.
@TheJlazar There is also an instance of a contemporary composer asking for amplified voices in a recent production of one of his operas at the Met. But that's the only other exception to the No Mics Rule in opera houses. I've heard both PJ videos you refer to and while there are mics for the instrumentalists in the Ohime ch'io cado video, every time PJ turns away from one of those mics, you can hardly hear him. No wonder he doesn't sing in many operas.
And if I fail to be ''concise'' enough for your taste then what? Would you force me to write ''PJ is a pop singer'' 50 times on the blackboard? I mean, your high-scholl mistress tone may be quite funny but I'm not sure that it is appropriate here: I didn't give you any reason to get familiar with me. And since you're willing to give orders to people you don't even know then maybe you would be able to give some evidence regarding my ''badgering'' activities?
@TheJlazar ''you telling us why PJ is a classical/opera singer''
In other words, since you're unable to explain why PJ belongs to the pop genre, you are expecting me to provide such an explanation for you. The problem is that I didn't make any claims. YOU did. I just wanted to know WHY Pj is pop. All I got in response was that he has a ''pop sound'' and that arpeggio is a classically trained singer. Maybe this is ''adequate'' for you, but for me it is not much of an argumentation at all. Sorry
Good for you. And it is not classical because ? How would you define ''the experience of hearing a classical singer'' as opposed to a pop one ? And finally, did you hear PJ live especially in relation to others CTs ?
@msvalerievalentine33 You're right of course. I put baroque under the classical heading because both genres are centered around a vocal production which allows an artist to sing without amplification in (relatively) large halls.
I like Jaroussky as well, but I have no problems with people disliking him. It's their subjective opinion. However, I don't understand how one can make categorical statements without backing them up (saying that PJ is a pop singer isn't subjective)
@Pikatrix90 Just because someone baroque or classical music doesn't mean he is a classical singers. Brightman, K. Jenkins and other popera singers sing opera arias in concerts, but they are not classical singers. This is the matter of style of singing. PJ sings in pop style. If you listen to singers that TheJlazar and arpeggio1358 mentioned, you would hear how their sound is different., you'll hear the difference in style of singing, technique and expressiveness.
True, but a singing style has necessarily some properties which set it apart from other styles. And since no one has ever mentioned these, I'm still supposed to believe that PJ sings in a pop style because he sings in a pop style. Which is rather thin IMO. ''Sound'' isn't much of a criteria at all: Dumaux and Mera ''sound'' very different and yet both are classical singer. ''Expressiveness'' isn't a criteria either because it is a subjective dimension.
@Pikatrix90 Actually, arpeggio has already explained these properties to you. The ability to project without microphones is the first one, and one can hear it in the sound; resonance, breath support. Respect for the composer i.e. singing notes as written including being accurate in all coloratura passages. Diction. Phrasing and expressiveness isn't that subjective - one may disagree on who is more or less expressive but no if someone isn't at all expressive when there are no nuances.
@Pikatrix90 I just interjected to say you're both wrong, lol. As funny as it is to see arguing on a comments page over whether a singer is pop or classical, I think it's a little dumb. True, classical music in this day and age refers to all types of orchestra, including modern, impressionist, romantic, classical and baroque. I don't care whether people don't like Jaroussky, but arguing over it seems a little petty to me. If you like counter tenor pop, I suggest Vitas ; ) he's my favorite.
Indeed. It's also not ''funny'' in any shape of form. I happen to think that this discussion is extremely boring and I don't see why YT users have to be exposed to it. The matter is rather banal after all: some people are claiming for months now that PJ is a pop singer without any evidence, I challenged them and it turned out that they weren't able to respond to my challenge. End of story.
I'm out of here now before things get really tedious. Bye
@Pikatrix90 Bye then! ; ) I still think it's hilarious that you argued "for months now" over something that you have no interest in, or so you suggest by your statement: "extremely boring." I would have given up after the first two days! Good job! ; )
He may lack musicality but his voice is not fake. Even if it is its not a personal affront to anyone. Why does everyone take everything so personally. He is making ppl enjoy countertenors again. So what if he is not what everyone calls a true CT? Shouldnt the appreciation gained for this type of talent far out weigh the falsity of it?
@aakwaa I agree with TheJLazar. All we're saying is that PJ belongs in the popera genre. The genre has merit. So does the opera genre. All opinions welcome on YT. Badgering people the way I and others have been because we aren't fans of PJs style isn't nice. You, however, are being civilized in your comments. Thank you.
I'm sure everyone is entitled to their opinion, but spqrmor is on overkill. Your "crticisms" are getting REALLY old, and sound more like you're trying to convince us to think like you. However, Philippe, being the GREAT artist that he is, will ALWAYS have fans who appreciate his voice, regardless of how much you spam the comments with your "critiques."
@Miupiui Also, you are still not very consistent. You say that you are less judgemental about artists which probably means that you just like PJ's empty flat dull voice with only sugary trills and stupid pop wailings like in this particular aria by great Vivaldi which PJ just "killed" with his ridiculous interpretation with awful Italian, but you are so judgemental towards other people who express opinions here. This "y" in Kowalski could be just a typing mistake. As you say, nobody is flawless!
@Miupiui Also, you show off he that you know in person great true artists like Kowalski, but show what a hypocritical or very naive person you are if you don't "understand" why other real artists work with this overpromoted mediocre pop singer PJ! Well, it's so sad that Christie degradated to only serving the market and applauds to PJ. Bartoli is only a commercial singer herself who entertains the crowd with ugly visceral special effects.Scholl has to be polite with PJ. Why Spinosi? Clueless?LOL
@Miupiui If you read my previous comments and still can't understand my point, it's not much that I can add, but I'll try. If you are less judgemental it doesn't mean that the others if they hear that PJ is not a REAL countertenor but just a POP SINGER using falsetto can't express their opinions. I mean TRUE CLASSICAL SERIOUS art no matter if it's baroque, early classicism, etc. as opposed to pure POP in which PJ sings classical stuff without proper technique, in a FLAT voice to entertain crowd!
@Miupiui Is it forbidden to express an oppinion on YT dearie? Did I say that I adored J.Kowalski? Yes, I like his singing but I'm not obsessed by him like you do with PJ.What the hell do you talk about racial features? Do you know anything about metaphor at all? LOL! Especially for you I repeat that I find Jaroussky's performing to be dull, monotonous and soulless. He is highly overrated!
@Miupiui I see that you 're bothered by my opinion about PJ?That's very strange you oppose a real artist to conjunctive performer like PJ.You must be obsessed by his emotionless singing or by himself. That's worse for you.In comparison with Kowalsky your beloved PJ looks like uncouth random egyptian singer raping baroque.
This particular song sounds very pretty to me and I like to hear him sing it. The man fills with great success the niche he has found for himself, whatever it is. We should all be so lacking in talent. :-)
Interesting comments getting about here. I wonder if the negative posters are simple unaware of the magnificent excesses of the Baroque, and that the singers WERE pop stars, and the lavish excess of this performance would most likely have been a foot stamping, wolf whistling literal show stopper at the time. Pop super stars had Operas specifically written for them. Go for it P.J., and encourage the detractors to pull the stick out of their arse. Go Baroque, go superstar, go pop. They did.
@SimoneCuttlefish Interesting comment. If we look at ART from your point of view then it's always been all more or less POP: some for uneducated masses and some for rich and supposedly more sophisticated listeners. Musicians and composers did, do everything for MONEY.So, they are all POP for u! But for some reason there are GREAT COMPOSERS and ARTISTS who still serve the ART and SHARE THEIR SOUL and there are just MONEYMAKERS like PJ who just ENTERTAINS and PLEASES people with only VOCAL TRICKS!
@SimoneCuttlefish I want to remind you that GREAT castrati became LEGENDS not because they WERE only capricious pop stars, singing for money, and being highest paid for the special magic which could be found only in high male voices and for which they were castrated, and being safe sex toys for mainly rich women as they didn't make children (which is also a historical fact) but because they SERVED THE ART and the main purpose of BAROQUE is TO MOVE THE HEART! Only BAD castrati just ENTERTAINED...
@SimoneCuttlefish This doesn't mean that it is acceptable to sing baroque music in a pop style the way Jaroussky does. I'm sorry, but I find Jaroussky's voice dull and without good technique or interpretation. No offense itended. All opinions are welcome on YT.
@SimoneCuttlefish Why did you decide that folks write here only negative comments about PJ's singing of baroque? If the folks critisize him, it means that they are not happy with his rendering baroque style to them.Maybe it's enough to cram us with commercial trash like that? That's the point! Just for a comparison listen to something from J.Kowalsky or from Juditha Triumphans performing with Venice baroque orchestra and perhaps then you will get the true point of baroque. Happy listening!
@fourmi1060 I couldn't agree more with you here. I would like to know it too what the ATTRACTION of PJ is nowadays when there are so many REAL, GREAT CTS with FULL, ROUND tone, using all the RANGE OF EXPRESSIVE MEANS, sharing their SOUL and not just singing superficially in ONE DIMENTION, just barely touching the surface with their sound production! PJ only plays on his vocal cords, without even using his DIAPHRAGM and only making TOUCHING FACES to fool audience. I expect MUCH MORE from ART!
@aakwaa you know that he actually has been trained as a violinist and not as a CT. His musical education is different. But he noticed that he can make more money not playing his violine in the orchestra but playing on his vocal cords instead like a FALSETTIST making MUSICAL PARODIES on true baroque producing only sugary sounds "castrating" them of any meaning, image and DEPTH, showing SUPERFICIALLY what baroque is without bringing there anything PERSONAL, NO SOUL to ENTERTAIN PEOPLE! It's FRAUD!
@serenaluce I agree completely. He's a pop singer and always will be. I wish true artists had his publicity, but it's not going to happen anytime soon.
@serenaluce i'm with you on this. how dare he entertain people?
seriously though, you are embarrassing yourself here. jaroussky has a remarkable voice, and people enjoy listening to him sing. you are entitled to your opinion, but believe me, no one wants to be preached at by a self-important snob. go and listen to some "real" baroque music. meanwhie, the rest of us poor misguided fools can continue to enjoy this superficial, soulless racket without your tedious hectoring.
@mpghann No, I'm not embarrassing myself here. You just didn't understand what I said. There's nothing wrong with ENTERTAINING people! I like good POP too,and good MUSICAL PARODIES on true baroque too. I like hilarious jokes too like PJ singing Farnace or Tamerlano as a teddybear in his childish voice pretending that he is an ANGEL which is CONTRARY to the image at all if you CARE! LOL But such POP stuff should be performed in shows like "America's got talent". Just admit PJ is POP and enjoy it
@serenaluce pop, classical, countertenor, falsetto, authentic, parodistic - putting a label on it isn't going to affect my appreciation of the music. i'm sure that you have a valid point somewhere amid the fury and capital letters. it's a relief to know that someone is out there preserving the sanctity of authentic baroque music. unfortunately, most of us don't really care :) look at it this way: jaroussky might at least get people listening to classical music who otherwise wouldn't.
@mpghann If you REALLY don't CARE it doesn't mean that I am WRONG! I have no FURY as this touching promoted "bunny-rabit" can't cause such a strong reaction! He has no TEMPERAMENT for it, no MEANS OF EXPRESSION and no VOCAL TRAINING!LOL My capitalizing some words is only for such people like you to see better my point if they WANT to:-). You know, profanating REAL STUFF by performing it in POP STYLE to attract more people to make more MONEY for himself isn't "get people listening to CLASSICAL M"
@serenaluce i have to say i greatly admire your passion for the music you clearly love. i don't know enough about classical vocal technique to be able to make such subtle differentiations, and presumably this applies to many of the people who have viewed the video. from my layman's point of view, it would be interesting if you could be more precise in your critique of jaroussky - rather than using meaningless polemic such as 'bubble gum' and 'sugar-coated'.
@mpghann Thank you. My comparison is the same as describing stupid TV shows like sitcoms with recorded laughter as "gum for the eyes" as it's empty, only chewing something that first tastes sweet but it's not food, doesn't develop you intellectually, only "empty calories" which only fools the senses for sometimes and later gives your the sense of emptiness. Not only food can be a FAKE, but SINGING too like PJ's. So, it's not meaningless, you just didn't understand what I meant. I'll elaborate.
i am by no means implying that you are wrong, but if you want to convince a lay audience (and youtube is certainly that) that jaroussky is a fraud, then you should be a little more constructive in your approach. i would like to understand your argument, but you're just ranting like he stole your boyfriend or something ;)
anyway, i had a look at your channel and it looks like a great source for countertenor performances. thanks!
@mpghann Oh, PJ can't steal my boyfriend as I have a husband!.. LOL So, REAL singing no matter what - baroque, early classicim, belcanto, not only in a FALSETTO technique is SHARING AN ARTIST'S SOUL with his listeners, TRUE EMOTIONS to MOVE THE HEART, and not only ENTERTAINING people for MONEY for himself PRETENDING that he shares his soul making TOUCHING FACES! True artists serve the ART, not the MARKET! Now first listen to him. He only PLAYS ON HIS VOCAL CORDS without using any DIAPHRAGM!
love it !

@serenaluce Indeed, some don't want, but some just can't tell the difference.

@mukara77 So,if some just can't tell the difference why they are so offended that the others have more sensitive ears, musical training, great appreciation of true baroque and CAN feel the difference?:)Calling somebody a POP singer isn't an insult as POP means only POPULAR,but it's different from the academic point of view where PROPER operatic technique matters and attachment to the CHARACTER of the opera.Pop singers concentrate on one side, like here pleasing sounds and can sing in a FLAT voice.
serenaluce 1 month ago
@serenaluce :) I'm not pissed off at you. That's just a problem of text opinion interchange.

But real CTs sing love arias as MATURE MEN,not like PJ!
serenaluce 1 month ago
@serenaluce Calling "BS", and "pop commercial crap". That's bashing for me.
You missunderstood me. I thought the "I wish I could sing at all" part was clear.
Let's give clossure to this conversation. You feel Jaroussky is a crappy pop singer, and you're entitled to your opinion. Trying to convice others, I don't think is going to work well.
Take care now.
mukara77 1 month ago
@mukara77 You misunderstood me either. All genres are legitimate, but I'm for HONESTY in presentation one's work and not just making money on people's ignorance who can't tell a POP FALSETTIST performing baroque, etc in his FLAT pop, small untrained falsetto from a REAl operatic CT.So, you are just pissed off at ME,that I HEAR the difference, not at PJ and his promoters? He can't be compared with opera singers like Piau and Alagna. HE imposes his POP on me, and I have no right to say it's POP?!
serenaluce 1 month ago
@serenaluce I'm not that good, but Italian is similar enough to spanish to grasp the meaning (Translation SW works good anyway)
There's no need to bash on his singind if you dislike it. I wish I could sing like that! (I wish I could sing at all for that matter). Granted, his voice is not as moving as other operatic Counter Tenors, but I don't find it emotionally flat either.
About Showing off, I don't understand why the dislike. His control is great, and very well on key, which I appreciate.
mukara77 1 month ago
@mukara77 It's about meeting soon his love and dreaming how joyfully it will be,"l'alma del'alma mia"(soul of my soul),with what content the heart of his heart, and if he is far from the object of his love he will sigh and suffer every moment...So, if PJ's control is great it's great for a POP singer. You think that POP is only Justin Bieber? It's the MANNER in which PJ sings. If YOU dream of singing like him doesn't prove HE is a real COUNTERTENOR who can't have a FLAT voice. What bashing you mean?
serenaluce 1 month ago
@serenaluce That's a very subjective matter. Jaroussky might lack a little depht and volume, but I don't think he lacks feeling or emotion in his singing. Anyway that's just my opinion. What you expect from a Counter Tenor is up to you. If you don't like his singing, well, there's nothing to do about it.
(On a personal note, I find this CAPS writing to be very anoying, so please, if you want to emphasize something, Capitalization is sufficiently noticeable. Just a little Internet politeness)
mukara77 2 months ago
@mukara77 Yes,it's very subjective. But first I'd like to ask you if you understand Italian. These are the lyrics.Vedrò con mio diletto
l'alma dell'alma mia
Il core del mio cor pien di contento.
E se dal caro oggetto
lungi convien che sia
Sospirerò penando ogni momento...
Do you think a mature man IN LOVE will sing like that to his TRUE love with making big "innocent"eyes, showing off HIMSELF and only on high notes? If YOU were this person you'd buy this BS?His emotions only on his FACE!
serenaluce 2 months ago
@serenaluce I mean the absence of secondary sex characteristics. (Look for Sexual Maturity on wikipedia). Behaviour is another story, and way off topic.
On the vocal side, we can only guess. You (and many others) prefer other classical operatic Counter Tenors. Some find Jaroussky's style more appealing. I happen to appreciate both for their own merits; and you can't deny Jaroussky's success has brought big attention to this beautiful music, which in the end I think is a good thing.
mukara77 2 months ago
@mukara77 Behaviour is very important too and it's relevant to singing. You forget that it's not only about producing sweet empty sounds like PJ to entertain people who don't care about what he sings. But singing is about sharing an artist's SOUL, true emotions and MATURITY too. A mature MAN who calls himself a COUNTERTENOR should sings as a MATURE MAN.It's a LOVE ARIA about seeing his beloved one, not about parody where a man pretends that he is still a baby. Still it's POP, not serious art!
serenaluce 2 months ago
@serenaluce Well that "BS" happens to be a medical fact. Castration before puberty prevents the development of secondary sex characteristics, (including development of the larynx), thus the term Sexually Immature. Bringing their sexual Behaviour up is off topic regarding voice.
You have a good point there. This is an exchange of opinions, but you seem to be trying to evangelize your own as an irrefutable truth.
Happy Hollidays to you, and to everyone.
mukara77 2 months ago
@mukara77 Happy holidays to you too! But what do you mean "sexually immature" then? Castration is a medical fact, but castration before puberty for singing purpose to preserve high voice for boys didn't prevent them from becoming mature sexually active men afterward! It's a hystorical fact. They just developed a different type of body- very tall with wide chest, but they were not innocent for the rest of their lives. They shared their MATURE human MALE emotions with people, not sexless "angels"
serenaluce 2 months ago
@serenaluce Now your'e just arguing for the sake of it. Of course I can be wrong about their voice, but that doesn't mean you're right. Nobody can tell!. Castratti were Sexually Immature men. Full grown up but immature men. Their testes were removed, in case you have forgotten. Their larinxes grew with them, but never to a male larinx. I would bet that ruined the Manly sound. It would be like asking for a woman to sound Manly. As for the bloddy mess, the Church has done even worse things, so...
mukara77 2 months ago
@mukara77 Actually, if you think that it's something else, I can remind you that it's only exchange of opinions on YT. I can say the same about YOU that you argue just for the sake of it. But you are talking nonsense that castrati were Sexually Immature men. Who told you this BS? First read something about what castration for singing purpose is. Do you think that they were innocent? Impotent? Castration doesn't prevent it. They only couldn't make children, but rich women used them as sex toys...
serenaluce 2 months ago
@serenaluce Yes, he does, because part of what he sings is from that period, and I really doubt a sexually immature to have had a manly voice. Vocally I'd rather believe they did were "teenagers stopped in their development" as that is what Castration actually does to development. Granted, their voice must have been extremely well trained and potent, but hardly manly. I have heard several Counter Tenors before, but if you want to give names, suit yourself.
mukara77 2 months ago
@mukara77 Actually, you are wrong about what castrato voice was. It's what PJ and his promoters want people to think to sell better his POP commercial crap! Originally before any opera CHURCH revived this practice to lure people to their temples with SENSUAL PLEASURES as people began to lose FAITH, and only CASTRATI could do it with their SPECIAL MANLY SOUND! Haven't you ever thought if castrati were teenagers stopped in their development why church couldn't use just boys then without this mess?
serenaluce 2 months ago
@mukara77 Why castration then - this bloody mess? Young boys with innocent clear voices before puberty sounding like little angels grow up every year not only now, but at the time of castrati too! But singing isn't just producing LOVELY SOUNDS, but also sharing artists' SOUL, expressing HUMAN emotions according to their AGE! Little boys can't express what MATURE men with LIFE EXPERIENCE can do! Body becomes bigger and people MATURE too.PJ only pretends that he is still a teenager! It's a FAKE!
serenaluce 2 months ago
@mukara77 REAL countertenors are supposed to sound like MATURE men, not "innocent" boys, women or sexless "angels". It's for FALSETTISTS to do it who have always existed like PJ now. But they should stay now in their right category! It's fraud to present PJ as a real CT who can show a bit how castrati could sound. Normal men always sound MANLY no matter how HIGH and don't have FLAT "teddybear"voices. Listen to e.g. Lesne, Lemos, Cencic, White, Scholl, Daniels, Mena, Ragin and compare...
serenaluce 2 months ago
@serenaluce I don't know what your idea of a glimpse is. I'm not saying he sounds like a baroque opera singer. And even if he did (which most probably he doesn't) I couldn't tell, neither do you or anyone else, as no one alive has ever heard one sing before. I beg to differ that a moden Counter Tenor is a better reference, for their vocal cords have gone through puberty, and just like Jaroussky, they sing in falsetto.
mukara77 2 months ago
@mukara77 It's exactly my point that nobody of now living have heard castrati singing, so how can you say that PJ gives you this "glimpse of what Baroque opera might have sounded like"? You can only say that the MUSIC in this orchestra with more modern intstruments gives you this glimpse. But I know very well what true CTs are and how they are different from just men singing in falsetto as PJ who is a typical FALSETTIST, not CT.Mature men sound MANLY, no matter how high.Shall I give you names?
serenaluce 2 months ago
... so what if he is a male soprano, counter tenor, falsetist, pop star or whatever people wanna call him. He has a wonderful voice which apparently is enjoyied by an overwhelming majority. Kudos to him for offering us a small glimpse of what Baroque opera might have sounded like. Oh, and by the way, please, don't feed the trolls, just listen and enjoy
mukara77 2 months ago
@mukara77 It doesn't offer us any glimpse of what Baroque opera might have sounded as it was all about CASTRATI, mighty singing machines with huge range to express all human emotions and not just "castrated sugar syrop".Castrati didn't sound like teenagers stopped in their development like PJ pretends. At that time falsettists were not used in opera but to entertain part of audience with their sexual ambiguity, like somewhat sexless angels.Only REAL CTs now can give a glimpse of it,not falsettists

So don't you dare judge me!
fairies47 2 months ago
@fairies47 I insulted YOU?You appeal to the whole world to ALL the people whom you don't know, their lives, interests, sensitivities, etc.since they were babies too with their own interests and notions what music should be, partly BAROQUE in the case, and you presume that ONLY YOU know what is PERFECT and what is not! You accuse those people who don't share YOUR ideas of having no HEART or no EARS! And with your ridiculous statement that PJ is an ANGEL!LOLHow dare you insult me that I've no ears?
serenaluce 2 months ago
@serenaluce I never said that, and I meant CLASSICAL music (noticed I've forgotten to put the word) since, etc You are re-inventing what I said before: you were judging me on classical music, so I answer you on this matter. When I say P Jarrousky is an angel, it's a way of speaking (maybe just a French expression?), of course!
fairies47 2 months ago
@serenaluce And I didn't say that I knew what is perfect, because you're the first who were giving lessons to me!! You have the right not to love Jarroussky, but don't treat me like an idiot because I do!

I've heard it about any pop singer, and also about Bartoli with her wild visceral special effects!LOL It can be only said "angelic voice" about a singer!I don't say that it's BAD to bring beauty to this world even in POP INTERPRETATIONS!But an artist shoudl be HONEST!Why is he compared then with true OPERA singers Alagna and Piau?
serenaluce 2 months ago
@serenaluce Why do you hate him like this? Did he do something to you personnaly? Or maybe you hate French people! He is French, and I am too!

TheMorgrad 6 months ago
@TheMorgrad It is a matter of training. You can learn to sing in a higher register if you are taught to - many countertenors are in the baritone range also. Then, there are also males who have a natural, unusually high voice, and they can of course use that in singing. But that's a different thing, and sounds different from a falsetto singer.

@TheJlazar ''I'm assuming you can't''
Pikatrix90 1 year ago 7
@TheJlazar ''I'm waiting''
Pikatrix90 1 year ago 4
@TheJlazar ''he's miked''
Pikatrix90 1 year ago 8
@TheJlazar There is also an instance of a contemporary composer asking for amplified voices in a recent production of one of his operas at the Met. But that's the only other exception to the No Mics Rule in opera houses. I've heard both PJ videos you refer to and while there are mics for the instrumentalists in the Ohime ch'io cado video, every time PJ turns away from one of those mics, you can hardly hear him. No wonder he doesn't sing in many operas.
arpeggio1358 1 year ago
@TheJlazar ''Remember to be concise''
Pikatrix90 1 year ago
@TheJlazar ''you telling us why PJ is a classical/opera singer''
In other words, since you're unable to explain why PJ belongs to the pop genre, you are expecting me to provide such an explanation for you. The problem is that I didn't make any claims. YOU did. I just wanted to know WHY Pj is pop. All I got in response was that he has a ''pop sound'' and that arpeggio is a classically trained singer. Maybe this is ''adequate'' for you, but for me it is not much of an argumentation at all. Sorry
Pikatrix90 1 year ago 4
@TheJlazar cit: ''PJ's style is not classical''
Good for you. And it is not classical because ? How would you define ''the experience of hearing a classical singer'' as opposed to a pop one ? And finally, did you hear PJ live especially in relation to others CTs ?
Pikatrix90 1 year ago
@Pikatrix90 not to anger you, but technically it's baroque ; ) lol I love Philip Jaroussky... so don't hate, kay?
msvalerievalentine33 1 year ago
@msvalerievalentine33 You're right of course. I put baroque under the classical heading because both genres are centered around a vocal production which allows an artist to sing without amplification in (relatively) large halls.
I like Jaroussky as well, but I have no problems with people disliking him. It's their subjective opinion. However, I don't understand how one can make categorical statements without backing them up (saying that PJ is a pop singer isn't subjective)
Pikatrix90 1 year ago
@Pikatrix90 Just because someone baroque or classical music doesn't mean he is a classical singers. Brightman, K. Jenkins and other popera singers sing opera arias in concerts, but they are not classical singers. This is the matter of style of singing. PJ sings in pop style. If you listen to singers that TheJlazar and arpeggio1358 mentioned, you would hear how their sound is different., you'll hear the difference in style of singing, technique and expressiveness.
jewelmarkess 1 year ago
@jewelmarkess I positively agree. It's very easy to hear the difference between PJ and the other CTs we mentioned.
arpeggio1358 1 year ago
@jewelmarkess ''style''
Pikatrix90 1 year ago
@Pikatrix90 Actually, arpeggio has already explained these properties to you. The ability to project without microphones is the first one, and one can hear it in the sound; resonance, breath support. Respect for the composer i.e. singing notes as written including being accurate in all coloratura passages. Diction. Phrasing and expressiveness isn't that subjective - one may disagree on who is more or less expressive but no if someone isn't at all expressive when there are no nuances.
jewelmarkess 1 year ago
@Pikatrix90 I just interjected to say you're both wrong, lol. As funny as it is to see arguing on a comments page over whether a singer is pop or classical, I think it's a little dumb. True, classical music in this day and age refers to all types of orchestra, including modern, impressionist, romantic, classical and baroque. I don't care whether people don't like Jaroussky, but arguing over it seems a little petty to me. If you like counter tenor pop, I suggest Vitas ; ) he's my favorite.
msvalerievalentine33 1 year ago
@msvalerievalentine33 ''it's a little dumb''
Bye
Pikatrix90 1 year ago
@Pikatrix90 Bye then! ; ) I still think it's hilarious that you argued "for months now" over something that you have no interest in, or so you suggest by your statement: "extremely boring." I would have given up after the first two days! Good job! ; )

He may lack musicality but his voice is not fake. Even if it is its not a personal affront to anyone. Why does everyone take everything so personally. He is making ppl enjoy countertenors again. So what if he is not what everyone calls a true CT? Shouldnt the appreciation gained for this type of talent far out weigh the falsity of it?
aakwaa 1 year ago
@aakwaa I agree with TheJLazar. All we're saying is that PJ belongs in the popera genre. The genre has merit. So does the opera genre. All opinions welcome on YT. Badgering people the way I and others have been because we aren't fans of PJs style isn't nice. You, however, are being civilized in your comments. Thank you.

I'm sure everyone is entitled to their opinion, but spqrmor is on overkill. Your "crticisms" are getting REALLY old, and sound more like you're trying to convince us to think like you. As you say, nobody is flawless!
serenaluce 1 year ago
@Miupiui Also, you show off he that you know in person great true artists like Kowalski, but show what a hypocritical or very naive person you are if you don't "understand" why other real artists work with this overpromoted mediocre pop singer PJ! Well, it's so sad that Christie degradated to only serving the market and applauds to PJ. Bartoli is only a commercial singer herself who entertains the crowd with ugly visceral special effects.Scholl has to be polite with PJ. Why Spinosi? Clueless?LOL
serenaluce 1 year ago
@Miupiui If you read my previous comments and still can't understand my point, it's not much that I can add, but I'll try. If you are less judgemental it doesn't mean that the others if they hear that PJ is not a REAL countertenor but just a POP SINGER using falsetto can't express their opinions. I mean TRUE CLASSICAL SERIOUS art no matter if it's baroque, early classicism, etc. as opposed to pure POP in which PJ sings classical stuff without proper technique, in a FLAT voice to entertain crowd!
serenaluce 1 year ago

They did.
SimoneCuttlefish 1 year ago
@SimoneCuttlefish Interesting comment. If we look at ART from your point of view then it's always been all more or less POP: some for uneducated masses and some for rich and supposedly more sophisticated listeners. Musicians and composers did, do everything for MONEY.So, they are all POP for u! But for some reason there are GREAT COMPOSERS and ARTISTS who still serve the ART and SHARE THEIR SOUL and there are just MONEYMAKERS like PJ who just ENTERTAINS and PLEASES people with only VOCAL TRICKS!
serenaluce 1 year ago
@SimoneCuttlefish I want to remind you that GREAT castrati became LEGENDS not because they WERE only capricious pop stars, singing for money, and being highest paid for the special magic which could be found only in high male voices and for which they were castrated, and being safe sex toys for mainly rich women as they didn't make children (which is also a historical fact) but because they SERVED THE ART and the main purpose of BAROQUE is TO MOVE THE HEART! Only BAD castrati just ENTERTAINED...
serenaluce 1 year ago
@SimoneCuttlefish This doesn't mean that it is acceptable to sing baroque music in a pop style the way Jaroussky does. I'm sorry, but I find Jaroussky's voice dull and without good technique or interpretation. No offense itended. All opinions are welcome on YT.
arpeggio1358 1 year ago

@serenaluce I liked most of all the brunette cellist who stressed the sound but even her helping could not save PJ's performance.

And they insult and slander them!
They require freedom of speech only for themselves and her hatred tirades.

he's a very good countertenor. im not sure what all of you are complaining about. he's been trained by the best.
aakwaa 1 year ago
@aakwaa you know that he actually has been trained as a violinist and not as a CT. His musical education is different. But he noticed that he can make more money not playing his violine in the orchestra but playing on his vocal cords instead like a FALSETTIST making MUSICAL PARODIES on true baroque producing only sugary sounds "castrating" them of any meaning, image and DEPTH, showing SUPERFICIALLY what baroque is without bringing there anything PERSONAL, NO SOUL to ENTERTAIN PEOPLE! It's FRAUD!
serenaluce 1 year ago
@serenaluce I agree completely. He's a pop singer and always will be. I wish true artists had his publicity, but it's not going to happen anytime soon.
arpeggio1358 1 year ago
@serenaluce i'm with you on this. how dare he entertain people?
seriously though, you are embarrassing yourself here. jaroussky has a remarkable voice, and people enjoy listening to him sing. you are entitled to your opinion, but believe me, no one wants to be preached at by a self-important snob. go and listen to some "real" baroque music. meanwhie, the rest of us poor misguided fools can continue to enjoy this superficial, soulless racket without your tedious hectoring.
mpghann 1 year ago 2
@mpghann No, I'm not embarrassing myself here. You just didn't understand what I said. There's nothing wrong with ENTERTAINING people! I like good POP too,and good MUSICAL PARODIES on true baroque too. I like hilarious jokes too like PJ singing Farnace or Tamerlano as a teddybear in his childish voice pretending that he is an ANGEL which is CONTRARY to the image at all if you CARE! LOL But such POP stuff should be performed in shows like "America's got talent". Just admit PJ is POP and enjoy it
serenaluce 1 year ago
@serenaluce pop, classical, countertenor, falsetto, authentic, parodistic - putting a label on it isn't going to affect my appreciation of the music. i'm sure that you have a valid point somewhere amid the fury and capital letters. it's a relief to know that someone is out there preserving the sanctity of authentic baroque music. unfortunately, most of us don't really care :) look at it this way: jaroussky might at least get people listening to classical music who otherwise wouldn't.
mpghann 1 year ago
@mpghann If you REALLY don't CARE it doesn't mean that I am WRONG! I have no FURY as this touching promoted "bunny-rabit" can't cause such a strong reaction! He has no TEMPERAMENT for it, no MEANS OF EXPRESSION and no VOCAL TRAINING!LOL My capitalizing some words is only for such people like you to see better my point if they WANT to:-). You know, profanating REAL STUFF by performing it in POP STYLE to attract more people to make more MONEY for himself isn't "get people listening to CLASSICAL M"
serenaluce 1 year ago
@serenaluce i have to say i greatly admire your passion for the music you clearly love. i don't know enough about classical vocal technique to be able to make such subtle differentiations, and presumably this applies to many of the people who have viewed the video. from my layman's point of view, it would be interesting if you could be more precise in your critique of jaroussky - rather than using meaningless polemic such as 'bubble gum' and 'sugar-coated'.
mpghann 1 year ago
@mpghann Thank you. My comparison is the same as describing stupid TV shows like sitcoms with recorded laughter as "gum for the eyes" as it's empty, only chewing something that first tastes sweet but it's not food, doesn't develop you intellectually, only "empty calories" which only fools the senses for sometimes and later gives your the sense of emptiness. Not only food can be a FAKE, but SINGING too like PJ's. So, it's not meaningless, you just didn't understand what I meant. I'll elaborate.
serenaluce 1 year ago
i am by no means implying that you are wrong, but if you want to convince a lay audience (and youtube is certainly that) that jaroussky is a fraud, then you should be a little more constructive in your approach. i would like to understand your argument, but you're just ranting like he stole your boyfriend or something ;)
anyway, i had a look at your channel and it looks like a great source for countertenor performances. thanks!
mpghann 1 year ago
