Well, I've played that tune for 30 years, so I know the slower tempo gives you a chance to put more into it. But it takes a little air to do it, especially if you were playing an alto.
Like your channel...nice mix of silver flute and wood flutes.
Too bad we are too far away to play some duets.
Do you know the piece Fair Haired Lass?
Very nice tune and shares some things in common the Arran Boat Song.
@Rexicano Thank you for your kind remarks! Don't know the air you mentioned ...is it on utube? The wooden flute I play is a Radcliff...I have two of them ...one with a Robt Bigio head. We can play a duet ..if you ever come across the sea to Ireland!
I've never heard The Fair Haired Lass on records or anywhere.
I got the sheet music 30 years ago;
one of the prettiest Celtic tunes I've ever heard.
One site posted alternate titles for it but when I googled those on YT they were not the same slow tune. I don't have it as a PDF and don't have a scanner or I could send it.
@Rexicano If you have the music publisher I may able to look it up in the Irish Traditional Music Archive....alternatively would you chance uploading it!?
Amazing stuff. I have been wanting to get a flute for ages now... I think I could figure out the whole sideblown thing. Get so much more articulation of sound with flutes
The was absolutely lovely! I wish I could play the flute, but for now I'll settle with the Native American one. I can see you've spent a few years learning the instrument and playing. The articulation of the notes and the phrasing are both silky smooth. Keep on posting these videos!
haha, it's definitely not nervousness...if I seem a little out of it, it's probably exhaustion. I really want to do justice to the person I'm accompanying, so I end up doing a billion takes.
The stabs of breath are because I'm out of practice with the flute and I run out of air quickly. I know I took lessons at some point on breathing and embouchure in those long ago days of band class, but it's all vague now. I guess it shows. But I'm glad you still liked it.
Wonderfull. Listening to a really soulfull piece by someone else can inspire us to pick up instruments. A song on The Chieftains #5 recording is the reason I play Celtic harp. Also, the internet is making the global community real.
Thanks theanswer00 & 3rdDerivitive; I love listening to your playing.
I'm embarrassed to tell you that I don't even know anymore. I no longer have a copy of the album (lost by the wayside of interstate moves, divorce & remarriage, etc.). It started with harp & tin whistle, then gradually added the rest of the instruments in the band. But, I remember that the beginning of the piece evoked dew drops dripping from spiderwebs in the forest, followed by morning sunbeams, & that's what did it for me. If you listen to the recording, you'll know which song it is.
It's a little fast...
but if you take it slower you will need to do LONG tone exercises to get thru the phrases.
