@jeepcj74me It has held up so far. You are definitely correct, though, in stating that the GSXR clutch being used on an off-road 4x4 is NOT its intended use. :)
The RZR in this video is very very modified, but the stock RZR is still an incredibly sporty machine.
A couple weeks ago, we lined up a 2009 Polaris RZR with a 2010 Ranger XP, and we were quite surprised to find out that the Ranger, while tons bigger, was pretty much able to keep up with the RZR. Both are awesome machines. Ranger would be better, personally, if you ride with a couple people and like some cargo room. The RZR would be the choice if you just want to have fun.
my question is...with this kit, is there any cutting or modification needed to be done to the body or chassis? if not then thats the baddest ass badass shit ever.
There is a little bit of cutting that needs to happen for the engine to fit up. The Suzuki GSXR-1000 engine takes up a bit more space than the Polaris 800 (760cc), and this required the passenger seat to be pushed forward about 4-Inches. Also, to keep the driver from going deaf some custom pipes had to be made. There are also some new engine mounts that need to be connected to the existing frame.
When the time comes for us to sell this kit, we will have it down to a science, and will detail only the necessary modifications and cuts, and will of course provide 100% of the stuff needed (except the 2006 GSXR-1000 engine since you can almost do a straight trade of your RZR engine for one) to get the job done.
So, for $6 - 7k I can buy a kit that you showed me can whip donuts on an airstrip I'm no Peter Jackson but if I was going to showcase this kit it would'nt have a been a 2 minute video on "how to melt tires". Put some paddles on that bad boy and take it to the dunes!
We actually never intended to sell this kit. This was just a fun project that a TON of people started asking us about. So, in our defense, we're just trying to shoot fun videos of the GSX-RZR; not sell it. The prices given in my previous posts have just been in response to the overwhelming number of requests for this kit to be a sellable item.
I promise you, though, that we will take it out and get more video of actual trail/sand/mud/water/whatever riding this spring.
You do need to shift it manually. First, there is the Polaris Transmission. Basically you just pick High, Low, Neutral or Reverse. Then you have the Motorcycle gears to shift through, while in the picked Polaris Gear.
6 High Gears.
6 Low Gears.
6 Gears of Reverse (will NEVER shift through reverse though... but we could!)
We're hoping to be able to offer the kit for between $6,000-$7,000. People will have to get ahold of the motorcycle engine (2005-2006 Suzuki GSXR-1000) themselves, but the kit will include everything else needed to make the mods to a stock RZR.
We are definitely still in the developement stages, but these are our future plans.
No problems so far. I'm not as clear on how the 2 transmissions are hooked up as the guys who actually are doing the work in our shop, but we have 50+ miles driving like we stole it, and nothing bad has happened yet.
Yep! It still has the 4 Wheel Drive ability. Still has High, Low, and Reverse from the RZR Transmission, and 6 gears from the motorcycle engine. So... 6 Low Range Gears, 6 High Range Gears, and 6 Gears of Reverse (that will never be used lol!).
2 Shifters. 1 for the RZR, and the second for the motorcycle transmission.
Once the winter passes, we'll get this bad boy back out from some more riding. We want to take it out to our creek, to a dirt track that is near us, and maybe, just maybe, out to the dunes.
SICK! personnaly, i sell my kfx 400 2004 for my new 2009 850 xp polaris, i should change my name for PolarisKickAss .. anyways, my sister's boyfriend have the 800 touring 2008, the same engine stock* in the RZR, personnaly this is not enough if Polaris want to be the #1 sports atv, they should sell it with this motor instead of the 800 but its not a true 800 by the way, the 850 is a true 850 :P
Yep. We are going to do a little more work on the clutch, then take it for a ride at our campground. We'll have mud, water, hills, wall, and some jumps in the next video. :)
Do u think the clutch in the GSXR is durable enough to hold up to the abuse it will get running it in a RZR especially when turning in 4WD?
