How would you make it go higher?

The vimana texts talk about putting mercury or some such liquid metal in a spinning gyroscope and then electrifying it to create same magnetic shield. I understand how tipping it could create propulsion by the gyro's natural "inclination" (no pun intended) to right itself or to come to a stop.

@popupyou Wow, it's not complicated at all. Use DC voltage. How do you think an electric motor works. This is the same concept but linear instead. The coil will not repel away from the ferrous metal (or magnet) until the coil is charged with high voltage. More voltage makes more distance (but more winding is required, it is 1 round per volt) and more current for more thrust and torque (but requiring thinker coil) this is the same concept as electric motor, more current makes more torque. simple

Different sized pieces would float differently, but it is important to note that, in order for levitation to occur, the size of the aluminum must be approximately 125% that of the coil's.

This isn't anti-gravity. The electric induced electromagnetic field in turn creates a current in the aluminum or base metal. This in turn creates a magnetic field in the base metal that repulses the EM field of the coil thus lift off. This is why the base metal does not need to be magnetic and the coil only goes as high as the limits of the EM fields created. This has been tested at AT-Bell labs.

At a certain point (I'm thinking that it may be able to be modeled with a parabolic function) the frequency, in theory, would become too high and the coil's efficiency would begin to decrease again. Right now, I'm really thinking that it may cap out at 120 HZ. It doesn't take much.

It depends what you're optimising for, but according to FEMM sims I've done, usually it's good if the frequency is such that the skin depth is about the same as your plate thickness. If you go much higher frequency than that, then the skin depth reduces and the resistance seen by the eddy currents goes up. if you go lower than that, then the field penetrates the plate and the plate doesn't give you as much current/field as you could get.

The coil that is shown here is a prototype, and it will levitate for around 2 minutes before it becomes extremely hot. I reworked some equations, however, and I am currently waiting for some wire to come in through the mail so that I will be able to build a much more efficient model. I'll be sure to keep you posted.

I think you should use aluminum wire here instead of copper- it has a better resistivity/weight ratio, so will lift more easily and give less power dissipation. It's probably also cheaper.

Thank you for the compliment. Building the device is actually quite simple. Essentially, it's just a coil of 22 gauge (I believe six mm) copper magnet wire with about 35 volts AC running through it. The coil is placed above a 1/4 inch thick conductive plate (aluminum.) I'm regulating the current flow with an variac variable voltage transformer. This coil has about 110 turns around approximately a three inch diameter.

If you'd like to change the size of your coil, I'd be happy to email you some equations that will allow you to adjust the parameters while still allowing the coil to levitate without catching on fire.
