2. cliff was one of the best bass players ever, not only for metallica but period. but i think metallica's sound was never much influenced by their bassplayers (in case of playing, not writing...) so i think that roberto is a good bassplayer able to support their sound in an almost perfect way. Lets face it: Metallica is J, L&K. M4L!

But I know how Cliff worked as an influence within the band, in particular the melodic influence he brought, taming of the tiger so to speak. Cliff helped bring them to the mainstream, he was an integral in song writing. Jason never got a say really. He plays good, but his wings were clipped from the start. Admiring Jason in Metallica is like admiring the ass that brought jesus to the stable.
