wow. back then it was "under 14,000" and today i see them going for like 3-4k even 5k+ if they have the SR20DET swap on them. thats pretty good for a car that is 20 years old.
its RWD, its 2400cc, its sleek, its comfortable, its fast, just plain sexy car.......what more is there i know im forgetting MOST of the reasons to buy a 240........
200SX's are RWD as well. I had a 93 200SX, with the engine code ca18dett, anS13.
I prefer the 200SX's to the 240's because 240's are N/A and 200's are 1.8 turbo. So you can add hp more easily, like just playing with the turbo and chip.
@Baskentli I'm located in the U.S. The "200SX" in our American market was essentially a sportier two-door variant of the FWD Nissan Sentra, and were only made from 1995 to 1999. I think that's why you have a few thumbs down on your comment- because Nissan decided to be confusing and use the name 200SX for two TOTALLY different cars. The 240SX and 300ZX were the only two cars to have the Front engine/Rear drive platform here in the U.S. The 240s here were N/A and the Z's were either N/A or TT.
I don't understand why car firms give their cars different names across the world. My 200SX looked exactly like the one in this commercial, and had a 1.8lt turbocharged engine:)
haha yeah man, I'm not sure either! Nissan probably wasn't expecting their commercials to end up on a website numerous years later where people across the globe could view them lol. Btw, your car sounds like it's killer fun to drive! I'm actually looking for a 240SX here in the states to daily drive and have some RWD fun in! But that factory turbo sounds like it would be awesome for this car! Have you ran it at the track or anything?
I've never ran it at the track, but I can tell that overall it was a great car apart from its brakes, it handled well, it was going well, it was a great fun to drive. I had to sell it because of its consumption, because petrol here in Turkey is 2.5 dollars per liter, thats nearly 9dollars per galon. But, I really do miss my 200SX.
@Baskentli Damn that's crazy. I'm looking at getting a 240 soon and I don't even want to deal with it once it gets to $1 per liter I can't imagine paying $2.80 that's almost triple!
@dtmbcorp exactly. The brake discs and calipers were so small, and they heated up so quickly. It's not so bad the first time you step on the brakes, but if you brake rapidly they heat up and don't work:)
@Baskentli I see... Yeah, brake fade is bad when you're driving hard. I guess that's why so many people to the 300zx dual piston caliper brake upgrade. I've thought about going the Q45 brake upgrade route. Seems like it's a good middle ground.
@Baskentli There are 2 types of aluminum s13 wheels; though identical from the outside, the inside of one wheel type is designed a bit differently so that there is more clearance for bigger calipers. The 300zx brakes will fit these wheels, which I happen to have. Apparently it's luck of the draw, and there's no way to really tell which ones you have without looking. There is information about it on nicoclub
@Baskentli ...but I would have to do a 5-lug hub swap or drill the 5-lug pattern rotors to fit a 4 lug configuration anyway, so you're kinda screwed either way hahaha
@Baskentli ...but I would have to do a 5-lug hub swap or drill the 5-lug pattern rotors to fit a 4 lug configuration anyway, so you're kinda screwed either way hahaha
How? lol um 89 was the first year of a 240sx haha s13 buddy 2.4l 12valve sohc with 9;1 compression ratio. and i had a s15 front end . , ohh yea date of the car to was 2/1989
I love my KA24DE, but it is getting super up there in mileage. I am almost at the 300 000 km mark. Thinking of swapping in the SR in the spring time. I need this car to be cheap and driveable, so I am not really looking to get monster power out of it anyways. The 205 hp in the SR is more than enough zip for me. But I don't know, from a tuning standpoint I heard that the SR head was a shit design compared to the KA
this model has the KA24E- I bought an sr20 because I don't want a SOHC turbocharged vehicle. After some numbers and my own labor, I found it less time consuming, easier and cheaper to import an SR instead of swapping to a KA24DE. If I had a KA24DE to start with, however, I would have opted to turbo it.
So in short: If you've got a 89-91 go with the swap and a little more elbow grease. If you've got a '92 and up, turbo the KA.
I used to hate on the SR too but then i actually drove one. It's not just the added power, it's the fact that 100 lbs has been deleted off the front of the car - so now you not only have about 40 more whp stock, you also have near perfect weight distribution.
KA can handle more horse power without replacing rods or pistons but if i had a choice i'd go with sr only because i am a person that wants my car to be full jdm KA is still sick
Come on, don't be fools, if I still had a 240, I'd probably swap an SR mainly because it's practical to do so. Not to say that the turbo KA isn't worth it but don't be a reverse bandwagon jumper and hate on the SR.
lol I hate mine. Good gas saver though. Why? Because you KNOW as soon as you get an SR, you pour an extra 2Gs into it and the gas mileage goes down the drain heheh. It's worth it though.
ive had a 240 hatch with sr20 and i found it easier to find parts for it than for my ka24 in my current 240 coupe. 240sxmotoring.com is a great place for sr parts. just my 2 pennies
@hongerjp a 240sx will never be what the civic is for one reason. The civic is an economy passenger car, and the 240 is a fucking sports car. A poor man's sports car, but still a sports car god damn it.
@dtmbcorp first off thank you for replying for the last 4 years i last commented on this. I'm not comparing the 240 and the civic as a platform but the popularity(now a days 240's are like the RWD civics). I agree with you though when i still had my 240 it was the greatest i've ever owned. Now i own a 92 MR2 and its a fun bitch.
The KA24DE kicks the SR20's ass. Why have 2.0 SR20 when you can have a 2.4L KA24DE? Plus the KA is cheaper to maintain and find parts for. LONG LIVE THE KA!!
is that whats required now? do u have 2 have a swap 2 have a drift car or watever?
its all cuz of these magazines and all these D1 contests, u think the 240sx is cool now, wait until tokyo drift comes out and ruins this beautifull car

you dont NEED an sr to have a sweet car..
if you knew anything..you may end up dropping about 3 grand more into a ka-T..but the torque numbers pwn an sr until you hit around the 500 hp mark..

I didn't say that, the KA ultimately can hold more boost, but I think an SR is a good option with less effort involved
dorik0 5 years ago
I love how people downplay the SR just because so many people have it. Why do you think the engine got so popular to begin with?
Maybe because it comes with 200hp stock?
Maybe because it comes reliably boosted stock?
Maybe because it is easy to find and swap in?
Maybe because it's lighter than the KA?
