I did actually really enjoy the latest alone in the dark despite its major issues. I managed to look past them. Although I dont think it should have been called Alone in the dark. You were anything but alone.

This game was amazing for its era.I ve been a gamer for more than 2 decades and this is one of the best games I ve played.Unfortunatelly the offsprings of Alone in the Dark (Resident Evil,Silent Hill ect) while they were good they always lacked the fantastic cinematic atmosphere of aitd series.

This is the second one for sure. This has graphics which are as good as the first game, albeit with a little less usage of digitized dark fantasy artwork (the game over screen in the first game for instance). ;)

As often as it is offered on so-called "Abandonware" websites (simply being an old game does not Abandonware make, if anything does at all), the original Alone in the Dark Trilogy is not abandonware. The companies which produced them (and those which own the rights to them today) have not released them freely (to my regret- I love these games).

The frame rate is absolutely amazing, and the lack of text or voice to narrarate or describe the 'action' really gives me a chilling idea of why a clown that exists only in the little girls head would throttle an old man or detective by the back of his head to death. An old man that just happened to climb in through the little girls window to avoid a Zombie carrying an AK-47.

Aside from the characters that is, the way the perspective is with the background and just the overall textures with the glass of water/milk falling to the floor really is well done for that time. Don't ever forget that watching is not the same as playing! I play older DOS games from my collection, and within about 20 mins, the fact the graphics and sound is old just disappears as the great old-time gameplay that we have now lost in modern gaming grabs you and doesn't let go! :)

I think they are better. They can make facial expression, they can now have a bit of texture mapping and they can animate more models on screen at the same time.

I think they worked to make the resolution better, but more to lift some limitation from the first game.

I absolutely adored this on the PSX, although the intro was far different in the sense that some bits weren't shown (The witch hearing the noises above // Entering the room after the clown had strangled the detective). The game itself had some fiendish puzzles and some of the weapons were funny (Slapping zombies upside the face with a small ping-pong racket). Some of the music, although Midi-Like, was very catchy also.
