I propose a new bill to congress: No salary rise or pay increase can be invoked unless done so by voters at the poles. No congressman, president, or any other politician can take with them on termination (being voted out at the poles) a severance pay greater than two months salary. Once that door hits them in the butt..they get no more tax payers dollars.

I have no issue with Medicare at the moment. I too am young and productive, I pay LOTS of taxes. I have no issue with road improvements or new schools, the high school I attended was 30+ years old and had no hot water in the bathrooms....don't tell me about new schools or roads, they do need to be built and improved. Unfortunately things will never change when there are millions of able bodies "in the system" that CHOOSE not to work because they'd lose that check if they did so.

No, the private health care providers would be forced to reduce their costs, thus reducing their profits. In addition, they will have to reform their use of existing conditions.

Id like to know all the details involving the healthcare reform bill. I dont know enough about it to be for or against it. I like the idea of every citizen having health care, but im wary to be in favor of it after i look at other countries that have national healthcare coverage. It would be unaccaptable for the reform to inadvertently drive the cost of premiums up on private healthcare.

I know and it always surprises me how people can consider the US a Democracy in the true sense of the word. I live in a representative parliamentary Republic with 5 to 6 parties that have a chance to take the "5 % hurdle" required to get seats - and still most of us consider our system a fake democracy at best. Once in power, all previous distinctions turn out to be nothing but rethorical devices. True power (money, arms) does not bother with elections.

I have no issue with Medicare at the moment. I too am young and productive, I pay LOTS of taxes. I have no issue with road improvements or new schools, the high school I attended was 30+ years old and had no hot water in the bathrooms....don't tell me about new schools or roads, they do need to be built and improved. Unfortunately things will never change when there are millions of able bodies "in the system" that CHOOSE not to work because they'd lose that check if they did so.

Id like to know all the details involving the healthcare reform bill. I dont know enough about it to be for or against it. I like the idea of every citizen having health care, but im wary to be in favor of it after i look at other countries that have national healthcare coverage. It would be unaccaptable for the reform to inadvertently drive the cost of premiums up on private healthcare.

that's sort of the point right now, the Dems, on their own COULD ram through their own version of health care reform- but these last days and weeks have been sent exploring options that would receive some kind of bipartisan approval- only to have those various options twisted into scaring Americans

After watching this I am reminded of pro wrestling: when the bad guy does some illegal or rotten move to injure his opponent behind the referee's back. When the ref turns around to see what they are up to the the cheating wrestler hurls up his hands and protest "it's not me. We are doing anything wrong."
That act so much reminds me of what the Republicans are doing right now. It's so damn clear that they are behind the lies and misinformation campaign to quell any meaningful health reform.

Are we really so dumb in America? Fox is clearly biased to the right. Biased isn't even strong enough a word. But now it is the #1 news source in America because the vast majority of it's viewers believe it to be the most neutral media outlet. And as far as I can tell they only believe that because Fox said "fair and balanced" a million times. We Americans deserve the lies we're fed by politicians and media alike because clearly we would rather be lied to than deal with the truth.

Well yes and no. They do dominate TV but I think that's because the younger demographic doesn't get any news from TV. The older folks may lean towards Fox but the younger generations go to the internet, so TV viewership statistics I don't think are an accurate reflection of the average US mentality.
That said you're right it's still a scary thought how popular they are.

He said they were "trying to", did not assign blame. Secondly, Obama said they were trying to sink hHIS healthcare reform, which Fauz has then conflated with the wider issue of reform. And they are trying to block it by propagating lies in order to create fear. How blind are these people?

This was going to be a battle fromt he get go.Obama might need to use that political capital against the dems holding it up.You can't say you want government to stop sucking corporate interest dick but then back off when it gets too hard. Back in the day, Democrats got together with Republicans and changed our voting system to make sure all other parties became irrelevant.
For the past decade, the Democrats have been trying to continue the good cop bad cop game, but the Republicans aren't cooperating any more - they are so greedy and stupid they think they don't need the Democrats. Without a bad cop in power, the Democrats are having a hell of a time playing the "our hands are tied" good cop role convincingly.

Hmmmm ... I don't think that's going to happen. As much as I hate the 2 party system, it is easy to predict. The Dem's' are going to abuse power and stick to the party line thereby pushing more of the middle to vote Pub, then they'll have their turn to screw up and the cycle will repeat ... both parties just switch views around every few years to voice opposition to each other but nothing changes. Different faces on the same suits ..

I know and it always surprises me how people can consider the US a Democracy in the true sense of the word. I live in a representative parliamentary Republic with 5 to 6 parties that have a chance to take the "5 % hurdle" required to get seats - and still most of us consider our system a fake democracy at best. Once in power, all previous distinctions turn out to be nothing but rethorical devices. True power (money, arms) does not bother with elections.
