None of the main characters in this story are good guys. Brom gets overcompetitive and to be kind of a jerk when he was an okay guy at the start. Ichabod only wants Caterina for her money. And Caterina genuinely seems to be happiest when there are men stumbling over themselves to please her and fighting each other for her.

I've noticed alot of people comparing Bram to Gaston, but let me tell you there a 3 major diffs. 1(Bram is much smarter. Gaston was an idiot he could never come up with a plan that clever) 2( Bram is much less violent. Bram just scared Ichabod out of town, Gaston was willing to kill) 3(Bram is a much better singer. I mean god that song was catchy) Anyway I think Bram was a much better person.

at that tim it was attractive to be pale, if you were tan or had a darker skin tone that was viewed as a sign of someone who worked in the fields basically a worker. Thats why the wealthy wanted to be paler

Actually, while the part about wanting to be pale at that time is true, it's not what the chalk powder is all about. Men used to (and many still do) use talcum powder after shaving to dry their skin instead of using a towel, as rubbing sensitive skin right after shaving with a towel can irritate the face and cause redness etc.. It also kept the skin from looking oily throughout the day, much the same as cosmetic powder that women use. Talc was often scented as well.
