  • OK this was great!! It gave me shivers!! well done!

  • @GREGMCKEE Thanks very much!

  • I wish they would have made that television series, but then again we may never then have had STNG!

  • slow and boring just like the movie. sorry.

  • Very good job. I really wish they would have gone ahead with the series.

  • Why not do the whole Movie.? Make it 2 part or even part segment emphasizing the key segments of the movie into the fist ST made for TV/series. Followed by the Wrath of Kain, the search for Spock, etc . . .

For further info on lay out, script break down and so forth, ask me and I'll give my input on would make the movies into webisobes.

    Cheers M8.

  • ok, thats pretty fuckn cool

  • Great opening to a TV show that never existed-take a bow!

  • @Neville6000 Thanks!

  • tos in the style of tng , nice

  • @jmm1233 Thanks, but as one poster mentioned it takes some notes from Space:1999. The score is from the Directors cut of TMP, and the warp sound fx is from the original Phase 2 (test sound fx that is).

  • @proximajoe it like the opening tng uses , thats what my first impression , never really seen much of space 1999

  • @jmm1233 You should check out the re-mastered DVDs of the original show if you haven't yet.

  • @jmm1233 I'd like to do something like this with my friends, with us as the main actors, with TOS Starfleet uniform on the refit Constitution class bridge. I only have to make my friends a handful of Trekkie and find all the stuff.

  • @ilania95 somthing was done like tht in that finnish fan film star wreck

  • I love the movies but still wish Paramount had put Phase II into production. We'd have a lot more Trek to enjoy.

  • Although not with the original cast, if you google Star Trek Phase 2 you'll find the Internet based Phase II. I know, I'm their boom operator.

  • @proximajoe

Is that the STNV? James Cawleys fan production?

a lot of work has gone into their work, its the best of the fan shows.

  • @jkerr91 No its not STNV. I patched this together before STNV decided to go Phase II. And as someone who has worked with STNV/Phase II ... thank you for your kind comment.

  • @jkerr91 I just love the way you cut this

  • @quacksacker Xon, Ilia and Decker could be so interesting charachters, and more Rand, Kyle and Chapel could have more space for their own story.

And Chekov and Scotty could cry every time one of their cerwman dies.

I hope CBS make a new show in the rebooted timeline.

  • The sound of the warp drive engines powering up from the original series was a nice touch.

  • Thanks, but believe it or not that is the only part that is from the original Phase II

  • Understood.

  • Great upload. Would like to of seen Xon, Decker and Ilia but what the hell. Would of been a blooming good series.

  • What a great idea! Great edit!

  • Nicely done. However, in the original plans Illia and Decker were supposed to be "regulars" in Phase II, so it would have been interesting to see, just at the end, something like "Stephen Collins and Persis Khambatta" before the Enterprise zoomed out.

Its kinda sad we never got the series ST:Phase II. I would have been fine with David Gautreaux as a regular and occasional guest appearances by Nimoy throughout the series. There's even footage of David in Vulcan makeup watch?v=gU83fr6YqFI

  • Leonard Nimoy was not going to be in phase 2. But when it turned into a movie, Nimoy came on board. Or should i say beamed aboard.

  • nicely stated lol

  • Very Space 1999

    Again, I love it!

  • Thanks, there is a similarity with 1999, in fact I do 1999 too! Just as a reminder, I originally made this when the Internet's Star Trek: Phase II was called New Voyages. We'll never know what the original Phase II would have looked like, but I did this for fun.

  • @proximajoe Actually from what little footage I've seen, the exterior would have been slightly different, the interiors would have looked much as they did in TMP but with more 70s furniture, and the uniforms would have been pretty similar to TOS.

  • You know, when you cut STMP like this and remake the title sequence, it really could have been the start of a killer new series. However, I doubt Paramount would have put that much money on a minute by minute basis into the TV show relative to the movie.

I do LOVE the way this small sequece was done. It fits right in the space shows of the same late 70's genre. Lots of colors, avaunt guard uniforms in various muted color combinations.

    Wonderful!

  • This is the beginning of Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

  • Correct, it was originally a story called "In Thy Image" written by Alan Dean Foster for Star Trek: Phase II

  • those klingon still alive if the warp out of there

  • Actually since V'Ger is traveling at warp, so are the Klingons.

  • Klingons don't run from a fight.

  • Good luck applying book continuity to the films/TV series. The books contradict each other about 100x more than the live action stuff.

  • Not sure if you understand, I'm not following ANY book. This was a look at the aborted Star Trek: Phase II television series of the 1970's. Phase II lives today, and I'll be on set filming the latest story, "Kitumba", starting June 1. Did you see our producer James Cawley in JJ Abrams' "Star Trek" movie? Former STP2 actor Jeff Quinn was also in it, but you only see his back.

  • I would like to see another series started that would add the the greatness of Voyager, Deep Space 9 and NXT generation.

  • So it would seem the Klingons had the first known battle against the Borg, because according to the book Star Trek Return, Veger came into being by ariving at the Borg homeworld. It also was the reason the Borg started its assimalation of organic life forms, they mis interpreted the things program.

  • but that wasn't canon!

  • Ok, what do you mean by canon, i never said canon

  • It's not exactly canonical, but its my understanding that Roddenberry himself made the connection between V'ger and the Borg on the set of Next Gen, so it's been kinda treated as canon. Hard to argue with him!

  • That was just a passing thought Gene had...personally, I think leaving V'ger, the machine homeworld and such as a mystery is much better. :)

  • Very nice job. These are just suggestions, not complaints. To be true to the original plan for Phase II, Decker, Ilea, and Xon should be included. Spock should be omitted. There are publicity shots of Xon. In the pilot version of Phase II, Decker and ILea survive their V'ger encounter and return to the crew. Spock is teaching at the academy on Vulcan, and Xon is his replacement. Only in the movie that honestly, most thought would be the conclusion of Star Trek, was Spock brought back. Me nerd.

  • Hey...that gave me shivers! Great stuff!!..now when is the show coming on that new Paramount Network they keep talking about......

    Oh sorry..having a 70's flashback

  • well done!

  • A couple of other ideas: still shots of each actor, no fades on the title texts, different font, and possibly an old-style teaser sequence at the beginning (appx 20 seconds of rapid-fire clips from this week's "episode"). And some kind of "film look" filter to simulate an old 16mm TV print would be awesome.

  • Very nice opening credit sequence, although I daresay the editing and title style looks more late '80s/early '90s than 1976. It'd be kind of cool if someone would come up with a '70s style arrangement for the familiar TMP/TNG theme music. I'd also suggest using a standard TV aspect ratio instead of widescreen to give it less of a modern "HD" look.

  • Interesting ...the commander of Epsolon 9...Was to be XON in Phase II....so....There ya go

  • my dad glow up with star trek and

    me to.

  • Very well done-I liked it.

  • ...and Grace Lee Whitney AS The Beaver!

  • very nice. felt very modern as far as the film style the way you put it together.

  • That was put together BEAUTIFULLY!

  • Perfection!

  • Very nice job! Decker and Ilia were also to be regulars in "Star Trek II." Maybe you could do a new edit to include them. Also, that typeface was conceived for the movie. When they were plotting the series, they probably intended to use the original series font, just as the new movie is returning to.

(The series was going to be titled "Star Trek II." It's known as Phase II today to differentiate it from the movie - similar to how "The Menagerie" first pilot is today known as "The Cage.")

  • Nicely edited.

Of course, Phase II was to have a different Enterprise, the old TV series style uniforms, and no Spock.

  • the upn logo

  • Star Trek: Phase II was a product of the 70's, there was no UPN (even though it was going to be the flagship of a Paramount network)

  • I know that but upn was the Paramount network that eventually fulfilled the intent of that network and started with Star Trek Voyager. Of coarse if they meant by a logo that it would be in the corner of the screen it wouldn't need it at all, since networks weren't as obnoxious about doing that then.

  • First I was like Oh man... another fan video. But WOW that looked really authentic! REALLY cool glimpse into a parallel dimension where Phase II made it!

  • That was DAMN GOOD!!

  • Now this took a great effort!I commend you on it! One word,A W E S O M E, AWESOME!

  • I loved that!

  • nice titles, but the cuts are waaaaaaaaaay to long for TV, even in the 70s. The ship flybys especially should have been speeded up so the ship rockets across the screen.

And where is the NBC logo????

  • Actually they are shorter than the original theatrical release. Can't tell how old you are so I don't know if you even remember the original Star Wars BEFORE Lucas re-re-re did the effect (Solo shot first). But another show of the period, Space 1999, had even longer shots and slower ships (no warp). Space 1999's longest teaser before titles was almost 10 minutes, so at 3:15 for both teaser and titles is not bad.

  • I not talking about the length of the teaser, I'm only talking about the TITLES -- the titles are S-L-O-W.

Though the ships in Space:1999 moved slowly, the title sequence was fast-paced and accented with explosions, like all Gerry Anderson productions.

The only way this PhaseII title set could have been more boring is by using the V'ger cloud fly-thru sequence....

  • Phase II would never have aired on NBC. The plan was that the series would anchor a new Paramount Network, but they couldn't get enough stations to affiliate so the plan was scrapped in favor of ST:TMP.

  • They made it a movie because they couldn't get Leonard Nimoy to come back and they saw Star Wars did well. Star Trek got taken off because at the time the people that ran the network thought everybody would rather watch Gun Smoke, and things like that. Even now network execs have a talent for contorting themselves in a way that their arms are around their legs. And you might ask if they can breathe

  • Very well done!

  • I have been searching for Star Trek Phase II In Thy Image. Really want to see it as I have a soft spot for Star Trek V. Any chance of a Pirate Torrent? Or post the whole Re-edit on YouTube in parts!

  • Actually, this is not from Star Trek V...that was an edit by Jack Marshall. Oddly enough, both STTMP and STV started as a story titled "In Thy Image". The one above is from STTMP, and the story was by Alan Dean Foster. It was originally written for Star Trek Phase II, where STV's story was not.

  • Thanks for the reply. So this is a Re-Edit of the First Motion Picture. What I want to see is the V Re-edit. Any pointers as to how to see it?

  • I read some about the scripts and thought or hoped that somebody had novalized them all, but mostly all that happened was that they had been neglected, besides being ripped off for later episodes of further Star Trek shows. It's nice that they at least used some though.

  • Maybe I should double check, but was Sulu listed in the credits?

  • Yes indeed...I'd never would forget George.

  • Nicely editted and very reminiscent of TNG's opening.

  • Thanks, it lends itself well to TNG's opening cause it IS TNG...Decker-Riker, Illia-Troi, same Theme...

Main differences that Spock wasn't suppose to be in Phase II...instead Xon (Data) was in Phase II. The Leonard Nimoy footage was too beautiful not to include.

I wish I could put Act 1 of "In Thy Image" on YouTube, but its 2 minutes longer than the allowed limits.

  • Very true about the similarities. Many don't know this but TNG's "The Child" and "Devil's Due" were Phase II scripts rewritten for the TNG cast.

  • split it

  • Is there a full episode? Are there any more? It would be great to see!

  • I like the opening you made. Nice work!
