Actually it's pretty fun to play as the barbarians - very simple tactic; train a massive army of sword wielding, naked warriors, throw Chariots against the Roman lines to disrupt them, then sack & pillage, LIKE A TRUE WARRIOR

Celts are coo *hand claps* but of all barbarians Germans simply annihilate in both this game and real life germanians as a matter a fact the Gauls feared the Germans so bad much of them from who lived in upper Italy and lower Gaul went to the Romans for help and gave up their independence while they were at. Brute Strength lol Germans were far bigger, tougher and way more physically stronger and more powerful then the Gauls. in campaign a 5 yr old could easily conquer Italy with no tactics......

The Gauls destroy, they had brute force and cunning but not the best battle tactics. You take that brute force and add strategy to it and it's easy as hell to conquer the Julii. Then once you have that foothold run around the forests with your armies to catch the SPQR family members off guard, take rome. and then hold those because scipii and brutii will attack, after their armies waste away on your frontier, take their cities.

@masonhales It's not that they were oblivious to how the outcome of the war would end up, the reason they challenged Rome was to show them that they wouldn't just step aside and let the Romans push them around, they would die before they'd let another people come into their lands, burn their forests, and disrupt their lives.

Here I am, playing as Julii guys, and when I finish the ENTIRE campaign map, only 1/4 of the factions come up!!! I'm sitting there like, WTH?! LOL

@EdikShepherd This is true. Have a look at Amazon Total War, it adds cool new factions and makes the barbarian ones stronger (I think they go up to 4 tiers, with some more units).
