  • The famous C minor mood :)

  • i am so glad i found this on vinyl. : D.... Playing it through a tube phonograph

  • I'm mesmerized--what an unbelievably perfect performance...

  • i wonder if they hav paino solo for this music... n i also want to know if its good enough to play by piano itself..

  • @Letsplayinamud Well, it just wouldn't be complete without at least the second piano. Any arrangement trying to fit in all the crucial material in one piano part would fail epically.

  • marvelous he is just genius 1!!!!!!!!!!

  • I grew up listening to this very performance on a set of "45 records". I was 12 years old in 1951. I think I played it each night in bed for over two years.

  • Billyguns, you are dead on! This is absolutely wonderful playing!

  • Masculine, unsentimental, and clean playing with superbly right temp, this is one of the best Rach 2s I've ever heard.

  • Excellent theoshow, thank you! Kapell was a great loss. The Tempo he takes is very similar to Rachmaninoff's.

  • an amazing pianist...but unfortunately with a short life...but who cares? Apart from being an amazing pianist, he was a great musician...

  • I always hear and see something different each time I listen to another interpretation of the Rach2. So gentle and so expressive.

  • Could you please upload the rest movements of Concerto?

  • Thank you! Just GREAT!

  • Yay! You finally uploaded something. I never heard about Kapell, though. He looks like Van Cliburn in that picture.

  • Yeh,they both looki like a man, Sinfoniette.

  • :)

    They were all great pianists.

His hair looks a whole lot like Cliburn to me. Is there a Kapell Khachaturian in YouTube, though? Its one of the best...

  • Listen to Khachaturian, Sinfoniette, if you are interested in pyrotechnics (where Kapell is also supreme). But I would rather suggest his Beethoven 2nd PC, because it is the only Beethoven that he recoded, AFAIK. And how good is it? The best I have heard (others opinions may differ, of course).

  • I borrowed the Khachaturian and the Prokofiev played by Kapell at the library. I'm not too attracted by the Beethoven Piano Concertos recently, but his Khachaturian is great. I sometimes think Kapell is Armenian for a second. And not to be ignorant but... what are pyrotechnics?
