Remember that Michelangel the famous Italian painter that is a Latin name in Spanish it is Miguel Angel pronucned like the golfer Miguel Angel Jimenez. How about Julius Ceasar or Juilo Cesar in Spanish. Lenardo Da Vinci or Lenardo Decaprio these are are Latin names. Whether it is in Italian or Spanish or even Portuguese it is all based off latin because that is were Latin orginated in southern europe originally Italy to be precise. Aren't all these languages based off Latin & located in Europe? Aren;t all these people in Europe categorically White Caucasians. @Mrstatis1 I won't discount that from happen it is always a possibility & as long as you have proof of the family tree like documentation then it would be hard to dispute. However this is the vast minority of the Dominican Republics population. A vast majority can only point to a white relative from many generations ago but have no real proof. We also have to remember that many Spanish left the island because of piracy & their were many French, Dutch, Irish, English who raped & pillaged
@Mrstatis1 So it is possible for a person to have Dutch & African blood with out having any Hispanic or Latino blood but learned spanish culture & language but have no lineage or ancestors from Spain. Also we must remember that Gen Trujillo wanted to whiten the Dominican race so he implemented his blanquismo project & invited many Irish, Jews, Arabs, Chinese, Dutch, French, Russian & other lighter races to the island. It is really a shame how history has been swept under the rug.
@sportsmarvel im white cuban and been to the dominican nd have to say the people are generally mixed. in the states most blacks get angry when mixed people dont claim full africanicity because in the states anyone with visible african features is considered "black", like rihanna and alex rodiguez. but that my friend is also a form of self hate taught by the english, even if you only have 1 black grandparent you are still african by default. the spanish on the other hand didnt think that way.
@holloween2011 Actually they did and this is where the term Mulatto came from. If you had one European ancestor and one African you were Mulatto. Also you may want to look up the term Negro Ladino or Black Ladino it is what the Spanish use to call slaves. What it meant was Latinized black. The indigenous Taino were down to 5000 inhabitants in the Spanish census of 1542 so very few have Taino Ancestry. Many Spanish also fled the island due to depleting gold on the island.
@sportsmarvel However while your wife maybe mixed the vast majority are not as mixed as the island has stated due to the shame of slavery and having African blood. The vast majority is of African ancestry and a very small minority is mixed and even smaller unmixed European blood from parts of Europe. @holloween2011 What happen was Taino or Indios were treated better and had a higher status compared to the African slave who did not have a good status on the island. Due to great resources and pirates attacking the island of Hispaniola many Spanish fled the island to the Americas for more gold and more land. This is why Trujillo implemented the Blanquismo project to whiten the island where he brought lighter skin people from all over Europe including Jews to lighten the Dominican people.
@holloween2011 While the Dominicans consider Haitians to be Negros I have heard many Latin Americans consider Dominicans Negros as well and other casi Negros like Arod who is Mulatto like you pointed out. You also must remember Hispaniola was part of the middle passage and was the first place in the Americas to import slaves in 1512 almost a decade after the island was found by the Spanish and Columbus due to the fact that the Taino population was declining rapidly due to European disease. .

Haiti is dark skin and some in Dominican Republic aren't as dark. examples. light skin. At least 98% of the Taino population perished due to European disease, Hard labor, & conflicts & some intermarriage to the Spanish. Remember Columbus came in 1492. Slaves did not reach Hispaniola till 1512 and their was only a shipment of 200 then in 1517 a mass shipment came to the islands due to declining number of Taino Natives or Indios. Very few had Taino blood in the D.R

Remember that Michelangel the famous Italian painter that is a Latin name in Spanish it is Miguel Angel pronucned like the golfer Miguel Angel Jimenez. How about Julius Ceasar or Juilo Cesar in Spanish. Lenardo Da Vinci or Lenardo Decaprio these are are Latin names. However this is the vast minority of the Dominican Republics population. A vast majority can only point to a white relative from many generations ago but have no real proof. We also have to remember that many Spanish left the island because of piracy & their were many French, Dutch, Irish, English who raped & pillaged

@Mrstatis1 So it is possible for a person to have Dutch & African blood with out having any Hispanic or Latino blood but learned spanish culture & language but have no lineage or ancestors from Spain. Also we must remember that Gen Trujillo wanted to whiten the Dominican race so he implemented his blanquismo project & invited many Irish, Jews, Arabs, Chinese, Dutch, French, Russian & other lighter races to the island. It is really a shame how history has been swept under the rug.

@sportsmarvel im white cuban and been to the dominican nd have to say the people are generally mixed. in the states most blacks get angry when mixed people dont claim full africanicity because in the states anyone with visible african features is considered "black", like rihanna and alex rodiguez. but that my friend is also a form of self hate taught by the english, even if you only have 1 black grandparent you are still african by default. the spanish on the other hand didnt think that way.

@holloween2011 Actually they did and this is where the term Mulatto came from. If you had one European ancestor and one African you were Mulatto. Also you may want to look up the term Negro Ladino or Black Ladino it is what the Spanish use to call slaves. What it meant was Latinized black. The indigenous Taino were down to 5000 inhabitants in the Spanish census of 1542 so very few have Taino Ancestry. Many Spanish also fled the island due to depleting gold on the island.

The vast majority is of African ancestry and a very small minority is mixed and even smaller unmixed European blood from parts of Europe. While people like Sammy Sosa, David Ortiz, Jose Reyes, & Alfonso Soriano are considered mulattoes in the D.R the fact is they are African descent and in colonial days would be consider Negros.

@holloween2011 What happen was Taino or Indios were treated better and had a higher status compared to the African slave who did not have a good status on the island. Due to great resources and pirates attacking the island of Hispaniola many Spanish fled the island to the Americas for more gold and more land. This is why Trujillo implemented the Blanquismo project to whiten the island where he brought lighter skin people from all over Europe including Jews to lighten the Dominican people.

@holloween2011 While the Dominicans consider Haitians to be Negros I have heard many Latin Americans consider Dominicans Negros as well and other casi Negros like Arod who is Mulatto like you pointed out. You also must remember Hispaniola was part of the middle passage and was the first place in the Americas to import slaves in 1512 almost a decade after the island was found by the Spanish and Columbus due to the fact that the Taino population was declining rapidly due to European disease. .

@sportsmarvel When you look at African not all Africans are dark. Their are light Africans not all are dark. In certain areas their are dark Africans and other their are light skin African. Haiti is dark skin and some in Dominican Republic aren't as dark. examples. light skin. @Kemiztri Why are they doing this. Well because historical facts easily show the Indios or Tainos were almost wiped out. At least 98% of the Taino population perished due to European disease, Hard labor, & conflicts & some intermarriage to the Spanish. Remember Columbus came in 1492. Slaves did not reach Hispaniola till 1512 and their was only a shipment of 200 then in 1517 a mass shipment came to the islands due to declining number of Taino Natives or Indios. Very few had Taino blood in the D.R
