  • i was about 12 or so when i first saw them perform this on UNC-TV, a PBS station in NC. I watched in amazement through the snow on a 12 inch black and white (because my Dad was sooooooo selfish that he wouldnt let me watch this in color) as Robert Lamm, Peter Cetera, Terry Kath et al, literally changed my musical life at that point. I still remember that Robert was high above the stage on a platform with his keyboard and satin Chicago logoed jacket on. Wow, what a time in life that was.......

  • Who says trumpets, saxophones and trombones are for sissies? Play this music and change the rules!

  • @CTNGroovy Amen to that!

  • I admit I'm 16 y/o (as of feb 2012) but this music feels great. Try to play this with Bose Speakers and feel the pleasure!

  • True classic, true musical quality / talent. Thanks!

  • This is my fave Chicago song. The audio is excellet !! Thanks for posting !!

  • @fab4fan4ever64 You're welcome. Great channel you have! One place shopping for Beatles. Cool!

  • One person does not like the begining.

  • @muddyboyc I hate those people who don't like the Beginning.

  • How can anyone sit still and just listen to this............makes me want to MOVE!!!!

  • more cow bell

  • BEGINNINGS(******

  • Listening to this song, I am back in Chicago riding around on a warm summer day, either in the 'hood or by the lake, listenin to my Chicago x tape over and over..

  • thx.. it was so good 2 hear this song again!!!

  • A pretty cool song.....reminds of days gone by....

  • I think I hear some cow bell in the percussion section!

  • @ridetotheground NEED MORE COWBELL!! LOL

  • @ridetotheground Yea I hear a cowbell there was a cow named bessie that wore a cowbell if you say hi bessie bessie goes moo

  • Yes, play the full version of their songs, none of this radio edit crap. A patented Chicago jam. They apparently loved doing this, either working a crescendo into many of their songs, a change in tempo or (case in point here) a jam session.

  • his mom

  • thanks... if i could have only one chicago album, IX would be the one. definitely a desert island disc..

  • My mom got me into Chicago, yea, Im only 21 so what, I love the sound of them.

But the classics station cuts the hell out of this song, its so sad D:<

  • @darkmarine123

That's why I love XMradio. the classic rock station stays true to all the music with no cuts or censoring.

  • @darkmarine123 Who cares if you're 21?

  • @michael72986 I think the point is that great music like this is timeless, someone as young as me (22) or someone in their 70's can both agree this music is a real work of art. It stands the test of time in ways almost all of the music playing today never could.

  • @sexyemotomcat And...how does everyone stating their age contribute to that fact?

  • @michael72986 .... I thought I pretty well explained that. Oh well. I'm not saying I necessarily agree with EVERYONE stating their age, just trying to play devil's advocate & explain why I believe that individual did, based on the context of the statement. It's not like it's that important. Just sit back & enjoy the music.

  • @sexyemotomcat No, you really didn't. Timelessness has nothing to do with some Indie hipsters who think they are the new "it" because they listen to Chicago. I wouldn't care except they do it on EVERY Classic Rock/Oldies youtube video. It's hilarious.

  • @michael72986 Alright, whatever man. You have your opinion on the matter & I have mine. I'm frankly not in the mood to discuss it further. Go yell at young kids cause they want to enjoy good music. I think that's a good sign that maybe great musicianship is not lost on the modern generation, as I previously believed. I mean, it's better than every one watching a bunch of lady gaga crap & the only ones enjoying good music are a bunch of old codgers reminiscing about the "good old days".

  • Thank you thank you thank you for this beautiful long version! How you gonna play a chopped "beginning" version of this MUST PLAY ALL classic?? I just don't get some people. Once again, thanku. :)

  • @LeggyMnomWoman I know my reply is a little late, it but you're quite welcome for my "Beginnings" post LeggyMnomWoman. Have a great week!

  • Thank you for this album cut. F todays suck ass commercial freaks radio for butchering over 100 classics such as this.

I swear to Christ, the other day some asshat station PD played 'Eruption', without 'You Really Got Me.' I mean wtf is that?!

  • So the radio edit of this is less than 3 minutes long, and yet they'll play all of Free Bird??? Logic no longer exists...

  • @LSA2013 and they always play the entire godamn hateful Frankenstein song.

  • @LSA2013 Well, the radio stations where I live usually play the slightly edited version of this song, with just the percussion section at the end cut off.

  • @LSA2013 Bands chose to submit an edit. Some bands did, and some declined.

  • @LSA2013 too be honest, it is Free Bird.

  • @LSA2013 this song couldnt lick freebirds nuts

  • @clashrocker05 go make some meth and buy some newports---then wave your confederate flag---then do one more thing---pull your head from your ass and figure out if you really do a brain

  • @LSA2013 Here in Omaha they do the same thing with 25 or 6 to 4 and the Doors Light My Fire.. Bullshit I say !

  • This is one of my favorites by them.....

  • Love it

  • Angela! I Love U FOREVER!

  • ty :)
